2006 Baltimore Orioles

I know I'm pretty much the only O's fan on the board, and I know they're irrelevant in baseball, but I'll start this thread anyways. Maybe it'll reach 10 posts this year.

Re: 2006 Baltimore Orioles

With Leo Mazzone as the pitching coach it will be interesting to see how Erik Bedard and Daniel Cabrera develope over the course of the season, Rodrigo Lopez should be better as well. The most intersting to watch will be Kris Benson, we've all heard of this guys potential but have yet to see it. We have seen Leo turn guys like Denny Neagle into 20 game winners, so maybe it's time for Benson to turn the corner.

I think D-Cab and Bedard are going to explode, I expect Benson to be solid, and I also expect Nick Markakis to make the team by opening day if he keeps performing so well in spring training. Markakis is the truth, and I think he's good for .285-.290 with 15-18 HR this year. That'd be a huge boost to the embarassingly weak outfield.

Re: 2006 Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles seem to have a crowded OF these days. Markakis, Patterson, Gibbons, Matos, Newhan, Conine, Millar, Fiorentino, Majewski and now Richard Hidalgo. Granted Millar (and possibly Conine) is more likely to play more at 1B than the OF thats still a lot of players. could be possible for Gibbons and Matos to both be dealt by opening day.

Re: 2006 Baltimore Orioles

Cabrera won't be ready for a break out year until he grows up. He's definitly a headcase at this point and needs to do a lot of maturing. If Mazzone can help him out with that then maybe he's ready, but I don't see it happening this year. Bedard, on the other hand, has good stuff for a south paw and I don't think his quick start last year was a fluke. He should be one of the better lefties in this league. They still need an ace to anchor that rotation though, and I'm not sure they have one even if Bedard is as good as I think he'll be. They also need a legit closer and more pop in their lineup.

Re: 2006 Baltimore Orioles

Did you happen to say you are the only fan on the board?

Psh...

Already got my 81 game plan this year. Excited for baseball again, and think we could surprise some people. Still not a great team, but we are building for 2007 this year. I'll be happy if Bedard and D-Cab take a step forward under Mazzone, and if Hidalgo has anything near a decent year. Markakis will be up by August, so we have that to look forward to. I am worried about Ray, though. You can really screw a kid up throwing him into a pressure situation like that this early in his career.

And Gibbons is going to have around 35 HR's this year. He's not going anywhere.

Re: 2006 Baltimore Orioles

Well, so much for Richard Hidalgo. Apparently he took a leave because his wife is ill, and he may not return to the team. Hope everything goes well...

Re: 2006 Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles are hoping for a resolution as early as tomorrow. Speculation is that Hidalgo will announce his retirement.
