The 2006 Rangers

I think this is finally their year. They've beefed up their pitching...dropped Soriano (who I think is one of the laziest players in baseball) and added a leadoff hitter. The Angels will be tough to beat out but my early prediction is they'll finally make their way back to the playoffs this season.

Re: The 2006 Rangers

Kevin Mench will have a breakout season this year. I had a feeling he would and he has been tearing it up in Spring Training. Last night they said he was 22 for 48 with several homers and about 10 RBIs. He is a great hitter and he has fun with the game. I think him, Delucci (playing most everyday) and Nevin will make-up for Soriano's run production.

They don't have a great Spring Training record but I really don't pay attention to those with all the minor leaguers and prospects they let play it's hard to gauge the team.

Adam Eaton hurt a tendon in his middle finger on his pitching hand. Will probably miss several starts. Not good news. Looks like Volquez or Dominguez will get some starts.

I'm hoping it's Danks or Diamond that gets to try. I saw both Volquez and Dominguez pitch last year and wasn't really impressed with either. I wouldn't mind seeing what the new guys can do.

I'd rather Diamond get a shot before Danks. Danks needs to start back in Frisco. If he's getting it dont there, send him on to Oklahoma. No need to rush, kid is only 21, right?

Re: The 2006 Rangers

I think we're confused. Danks, Diamond, and anyone else you name in the Rangers farm system isn't ready to contribute to the major league roster yet. Hell Danks had a 4.38 ERA between A and AA. Diamond was better with a 3.53 ERA but he mostly overpowered hitters with a fastball which is just dandy in the lower minor leagues, but he's going to have to develop better control before he comes up with just that fastball and curve. There's Josh Rupe but he struggled in AAA last season. But then again, Volquez wasn't exactly dominating A or AA last season and the Rangers called him up, so who knows. On a side note:

* According to KFFL.com the Rangers are interested in Braves pitcher John Thompson.
* per the ESPN ticker they just traded Delluci to the Phillies for P Robinson Tejada who was 4-3 with a 3.57 ERA in 85.2 innings with them last year. An outfielder was also sent to the Rangers, but I don't recall his name.
*per KFFL.com the Rangers sent Juan Dominguez to the Athletics for a pitching prospect and IF Fred Bynum who they then shipped to the Cubs for P John Koronka

The same John Thompson they let walk 2 years ago? The Rangers are so stupid. One of the few guys that knows how to pitch at The Ballpark, you let go.

Looks like John Koronka will get the first start in the 5 spot. I would bet Tejeda will be up by the end of April.

Re: The 2006 Rangers

Jmw, your predictions are having tough luck. Delucci gone, Mench without a single homer or rbi, and they're 4th in the AL West. Ian Kinsler has been playing great, but he's now on the 15-day DL with a dislocated left thumb. Vicente Padilla has pitched very well this season, but Milwood is still winless. After the All-Star weekend, Blalock lost his swing, but he looks ferocious once again this season. Tex is having a tough time going yard, but I believe he'll pick up.

BTW did anyone know Antonio Alfonseca has 12 fingers and 12 toes?

Adrian.
