If you've managed to bend time perhaps you should be doing something other than playing video games.

IMO don't give a million for a perfect game and use that million to spend creating and delevoping the game.
Doesn't work that way - that's not how sponsorship works.

Registration is down across the US. I think in today's age of ADD, OCD, ADHD, NintendoDS, most kids today find it boring. Too much standing around, not enough physical contact, not as cool as football or basketball or even hockey, maybe even too hard.

I'd love to know why the numbers are down with African-American's. I don't think there's a shortage of super-star players for young black kids to look up to.

I didn't mean to take this thread offroad, but this I'm very interested in this topic.
But maybe it helps explain why baseball games sell only slightly better than hockey games.
Back in the day, even a Canadian like me couldn't wait to get my hands on the latest baseball game.
Baseball Simulator 2000 was the poop man!
I can't find it, but CC Sabathia gave an interview this past year where he spoke of his concern about this. He's trying to be an ambassador with the NY inner city youth...

Re: Major League Baseball 2K12 Video - Chris Snyder Interview, First Glimpses of Game

Why so many complaints about the hitting system being based on timing? Is this not what it's based on in real life?

There are tons of hitters able to determine a pitch's location after it leaves the pitchers hand, but there aren't many that can dictate ball placement after contact.

The difference between a Tony Gwynn, and say a Ryan Howard is T.G. will easily place a ball thrown on the outer half of of the plate in the opposite field by delaying start of his swing. Gwynn is also able to pull this same pitch when desired to advance a runner by speeding up the timing of his swing.

Where Howard (just looking to contact the ball), will 8 out of 10 times pull the same outside pitch (all do to poor timing of course), leading to a weakly hit ground ball to the first base side of second base. *Hence the shift defenses put on when he's at bat.

Maybe I'm just interpreting this complaint wrong, but if not 2k's timing based system, if respected in game, simulates the real thing quite nicely.

The game doesn't account for location enough IMO. Timing is one thing - location is another.

If baseball were as simple as timing only it wouldn't be the sport it is.

How would you say that 2K's Timing system is different from The Show? Is The Show more based on a player's rating in terms of where the bat gets placed when you press the button to swing?

I agree that baseball is much more than timing only, but I think for gamers, there's a segment out there that doesn't want to mess with zone hitting. They just want to swing and make contact. I think there's a way to do that and still give the game a SIM feel, but it needs to be ratings-driven, similar to what 2K does in its NBA games with Real FG%.

The problem with the "location" of 2K11 is the way the pitches move in an unrealistic fashion. Tone down the pitch movement and the game becomes too easy...Ratchet up the pitch movement and you'll never hit a curveball or slider to save your life. They still haven't found that balance yet...

I can tell you don't work as a real estate agent.

Location, location, location.

But you just pointed out the answer yourself -- wouldn't finding that balance be called "adjusting the silders"?
