Re: MLB 2K12 Wishlist
I will break down the improvements this game needs into sections.
General Gameplay:
New commentators! - I am sick of Steve Phillips and John Kruk, they have never called a baseball game in their lives. Gary Thorne actually calls games for the orioles, however his homerun call sucks and he is not very enthusiastic when great plays are made or when the world series is won.
Solution - I would suggest Josh Lewin, Joe Buck, Duaine Kuiper, or Vin Scully for lead play-by-play. Color commentary should go to Mike Krukow, Tom Grieve, Bob Costas or Tim McCarver.
Fix the Catching! - I absolutely hate how every line drive or bouncing ball catch is unrealistic. The ball will be at least 2 feet away from the glove and then warp into it like a magnet. this especially happens when a middle infielder leaps up for a catch, if you replay it in slow-mo the ball is over the glove and then takes a 90 degree dive into the fielder's glove and it is just stupid.
Revamped Outfielder Fielding - The new infield system this year is pretty good with the more frequent dives but the outfield still sucks. If you are not near the spot where the ball is gonna land, it is a hit. There is absolutely no way to dive in the outfield to rob hits. It is physically impossible to recreate some Sam Fuld type catches in the outfield. Also, the robbing homeruns system sucks very bad. If the outfielder is near the wall they should jump automatically, like infielders on a high line drive.
Umpire Blown Calls - These should be added in to give the game a more realistic effect. Each game would feel different in a way. I wanna see Jim Joyce at first robbing me of a perfect game! Also when a screaming liner goes down the line and the umpire ducks, how does he know if it is fair or foul? The ruling should be variable, not auto detected by the game.
Catches in the Stands! - when a foul ball just barely makes it into the stands you cannot catch it...... stupid. You should be able to catch a foul ball in the stands as long as it is in the first 2 or 3 rows. Also, add catches where you flip over the dugout railing, like Ike Davis twice last year.
More Alert Basecoaches! - When you steal 3rd in this game the basecoach waves down telling you to slide, unfortunately by the tie he does this you already know if you're safe or out. The basecoaches reaction time for steals needs a major increase so he tells you to slide before you start sliding.
Directional sliding! - When you take off to steal second or are heading home on a base hit you can only slide head first or feet first. This is lunacy. You need to slide head first, head first to the left of the bag, head first to the right of the bag, and the same for feet first. This way you can avoid fielder's tags which makes for closer plays.
Celebrations! - There are none besides the team jumping like idiots on home plate when the world series is won. When a great diving catch is made, the pitcher should do a fist pump or something to show he is glad the play was made. Also when a home run is hit the batter on-deck should high five the homerun hitter as he crosses the plate. When a walk-off hit happens, the team needs to rush out of the dugout and mob the player with the hit. When a walk-off homerun happens, the team needs to gather at home plate for a mobbing of the hitter. Also they need to add celebrations to playoff series wins, like the Texas Rangers dogpile when they beat the Yankees. Also when homeruns are hit, they need to add firework celebrations.
Collisions - The only collisions currently in-game are the catcher and a baserunner colliding at the plate. This is not the only time collisions occur. When two outfielders are going for the same fly ball, they may run into each other.
Add Collision to Players! - When the ball is lined back to the pitcher, sometimes it will go through his body or into it! The same happens when turning a double play, somethimes the ball heading to first will go thorugh the runner heading to second! If the ball touches a player it should bounce off. For the second example (double play) they should either have the ball always clear the runner OR have the runner dive/duck out of the way of the ball to avoid being hit.
Ejections/Arguing/Mound Charging! - In 2K11, you can limitlessly hit batters over and over. The umpire needs to start issuing warnings to both benches and ejecting pitchers! Also if one batter in the lineup gets hit twice or three times in the same game, he should charge the mound (Nyjer Morgan/Kevin Youkilis style) and have both benches and bullpens clear. Managers need to also be able to argue calls! Especially if they add in blown umpire calls. Managers should be able to argue virtually everything: Base Calls, Fair/Foul balls, Homeruns (if it hits top of the wall or yellow line), Balls/Strikes, and player ejections. Also players should be able to argue. If a fielder thinks he tagged a guy but the call was safe, he should argue drawing out the manager. Same thing if a batter thinks a pitch was out of the zone but is called a strike. This should lead to player ejections.
My Player:
Different Starting options! - I personally hate choosing a team to start. When starting a new my player, you should have a 2 options. 1. Choose your team. 2. Play in a prospects tournament and then get drafted.
Minor Leagues - When you start your career, you should HAVE to stay in the minors for the first year and start in single A. Then instead of ratings goals you should have overall goals. Like "Obtain an overall rating of 55" to get to double A. Then "Bat .230+ for the season and have an overall of 65" to get to triple A. Then have a few stat goals to get called up to the MLB. Also ADD COMMENTARY TO MINOR LEAGUE GAMES!!!
Career Start - When you get drafted in June, you should play the rest of the season and then in the following season, you should get a spring training invite. After playing through Spring Training, you should then get contract offers, not only from your team but from other teams that liked your performance in spring training. All My Player careers should start at age 17. After your contract expires you should get offers from multiple teams in the offseason.
General Career - Early on in the Majors, you should have to earn your way as a starter (any position). Why would the Yankees replace Robinson Cano with a rookie? You should get some DH starts and some utility starts (like David Murphy on Texas). For pitchers you should get one start and if you do good earn more, but if you do bad you should be put in the pen and given a start later on. Closers should be setup guys unless they are doing better than the current closer (Feliz taking over for Francisco in Texas last year). Careers should go on to over age 40. After hitting age 40, ratings should start to drop, not rapidly though as you may want to be Jaimie Moyer and pitch when you're 48.
With this outlined plan for My Player, you should get a few minor league seasons in, age 17-22. Then have a long major league career, age 20-50 with the option to retire once you hit age 38.
Player Progression! - In 2K10, you could become a 98 really quick (1-2 seasons) but could not get the fielding skill points to make 99. In 2K11, progression is better but only for hitters. Pitcher progression sucks awfully. As a closer, I am an 89 in my 11th season! When Brian Wilson is a 92 in 6 seasons! Pitcher's need more skill points. Flyouts and groundouts are only worth 5 skill points! In 2K10, Pitcher Progression was much better.
Franchise:
Trophies! - When you win the LCS, after the celebration, the trophy should be presented! Same with the World Series, where after the presentation, another celebration ensues in the clubhouse with champagne. Also if any player wins a season award (Gold Glove, MVP) they should recieve it before a game the following season. Same with the World Series Ring Presentation. Your GM will be in attendence for most of the celebrations so you will need to be able to create a GM!
Staff Improvement! - In addition to the staff, they need to add MLB, AAA, AA, and A first and third basecoaches.
Build your own ballpark! - Create a Ballpark with many options, scoreboards, seating, walls, wall color, grass mow pattern, restaurants, vendors, homerun celebrations, Ad placement, lighting, etc...
That is all for now!
