What is your opinion on the SPIN MOVE in Madden?

Alright OS, let's debate whether or not the spin move in madden is an exploit! Ther was a thread like this about one year ago but there was no poll and about 90% of the names were pink, so I'm creating this one all you search the forums nazis.

The question: Is the execution of the spin move in Madden a gimmick or true to life football?

My opinion: I think it's a gimmick and I'm absolutely guilty of using it at times. It's part of the game, but should it be? The way that ball carriers can sprint towards the sideline, not slow down, and fully execute a spin move catapulting them in a new direction defies the laws of physics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xqdy3fFSLvE

The above link is Peyton Manning pulling off a spin move and triggering defensive players to go into a "OMG I'm fooled from the spin move" animation. This example truly shines as evidence that the spin move is merely a gimmick and not remotely close to real life application.

In Madden you can attempt to spin out of a tackle/contact. To me this is about as close as it gets to the real thing. If they took that aspect of the spin move and created several new animations to show ball carriers reacting to tackles and trying to spin out of it...I would be thrilled! The juke moves are severely lacking in this game and it is clearly and area for improvement.

Secondary question: If you are currently in an online league, how would you feel if the spin move in the open field was outlawed?

I suppose the real problem is why the game allows Manning to perform a spin move just like Adrian Peterson does. That's the real issue.

I've seen times where the spin is legit, but more often than not, I feel it's poor mechanics of the spin move effectively acting as the juke move, because for some reason the juke move is actively underpowered and the spin move has taken it's role as a quick change in direction.

I don't really mind the defenders getting fooled by it, because let's face it, who expects Peyton Manning to try and do that? The problem is, he shouldn't really be able to do that.

At least he fumbled, I guess...that's the check put in for when people try and do stuff like this. Just a band-aid though - I think that any attempt like this with a player like that should probably result in tripping over their own feet and falling.

Secondary: Not going to answer because I have a hunch as to what this is about...

Some times it is good, some times it isn't. But then again you can say that about the juke move and stiff arms as well. All the special moves in Madden and NCAA series lacks consistency.

It's something you don't see too often on Sundays but is so overly effective in Madden it's used a lot.

Re: What is your opinion on the SPIN MOVE in Madden?

"But it's fun" - EA

That's pretty much it in a nut shell. Casual gamers love the spin and joke moves and the animation of the defender.

In real life, the spin is mostly used to break out of a tackle.

Ricky Waters had a nasty spin move and so did Marshal Faulk. You can see Faulk use it in this video a lot:

In my opinion, there are two problems with the spin in Madden.

1.) How defenders react. They get locked into a silly animation that should only happen on a "super win" we should rarely see. often times they could have clearly and cleanly hit the ball carrier and instead were locked into a silly animation. This doesn't happen in APF2k8.

2.) In Madden it is almost never [is it ever?] used to break out of a tackle. In APF 2k8, guys with Cyclone can spin right out of a tackle sometimes. I haven't seen this ever happen in Madden. The problem in APF2k8 is that it is too effective nad you see double and triple spin moves pulled off back to back to back like in this video:

* I didn't film this and the quality is TERRIBLE... but you se 4 spins in rapid succession and they look like garbage, but this is rare example of the spin gone wrong in 2k8

Here is LT talking about his spin move, how and why it works.

100% gimmick but not only in Madden (former football games too).

The most overpowered move in football video games.

TSB's nosetackle dive says hi and sacks you before you can blink. Point taken, though.

Re: What is your opinion on the SPIN MOVE in Madden?

That juke move at 3:10 was awesome. Hell everything from 3:00 to the end was awesome. That is the style of running I'm waiting to see a CPU RB do in a video game. I swear EA should just mocap Faulk and Barry Sanders. Running would be 100 times more realistic.
