Re: Season Ticket - Every Game Raining?

Taken straight from the Franchise Mode Blog.

"Weather Tuning

Last year we had lots of issues with weather. It would never snow in Green Bay in January, etc.

I put AJ on this task to make sure that you’ll see more weather changes in climates where inclement weather is common."

Really now..really? Shame on you EA.

See, I read that the complete opposite. I read that as "if nothing else major pops up, they aren't going to pay us to develop a patch just to fix the weather". Either could be right, but I have been around this industry for a long time and most companies will not develop a patch unless there is something considered "game breaking". Once they decide a patch must be made to address that one issue, then they add a lot of extra stuff in there because they are going to have to do a patch anyway.

That's also how I read it, that unless something else happened, they weren't going to fix it.

I guess it's a wait and see game at this point. I really love the game, but this is highly annoying.

Not EA. Every EA Sports game (with the exception of NCAA Basketball) for the past 4 yrs has had at least one patch after release. Madden always has 1 or 2 patches. There are always things to fix.

Yeah but that is because there is normally a butt load of stuff to fix. When has EA released a patch to fix something like weather and nothing else? They usually release two patches because there are several issues that the community makes a big deal about... I.E. NCAA 12's freezing, roster issues, etc. If the roster was the only thing wrong, I doubt we would be getting a patch for that game. They are fixing the roster issue because the HAVE to fix the freezing issue. I highly doubt they would release a patch just to fix the weather. Maybe someone can get AJ back in here to see exactly how he meant that statement.

Really, really disappointing. They make all these supposed improvements to Franchise, but miss this large flaw that arguably does more to enhance the presentation/immersion (the weather, that is) than any other aspect.

At this point...I almost feel bad for the dev's. They must be stuck with this boatload of decade-old code that "works", but not perfectly, yet they can never truly fix something because it is always based on the same flawed code they've been using for years.

I almost want them to blow the whole thing up and develop a new engine -- but who knows when that will happen, if it happens at all. I just feel...disheartened.

There is always a "butt load" of stuff to fix. We already have the weather, crowd attendance, passing stats, super LBs and choppyness issues and its only Day 1.

Dude there is always a patch released due to the fact there are always going to be bugs after the release and even if they are minor they are going to address as many of them as they can. Why would they waste today's technology? In the quote where he says "if no other bugs come up" I believe he meant that for only weather tuning, if he works on it and everything works out and doesn't spring up a bug in an other part of the game then it will probably be released in a patch. Remember last year they actually released a patch with weather being tuned.

Thus, the same game will produce the same weather each time.

We didn't redo the logic this year, only the numbers behind the scenes.

Unfortunately, this cropped up very late and it was the very first thing I worked on way back in January when I got here. Miami is actually set to zero precipitation in September because I was trying everything to get it to stop, but it didn't. I believe it's a bug related to dynamic time-of-day, but I'm not sure.

At any rate, I'm rewriting the system that determines the weather because the old system made zero sense, I just tried to do the best I could with it.
Sorry to hear that. Good luck with everything.
