Re: It was good while it lasted....

I only play Madden for my online franchise. That's it.

They need to finally fix progression/ratings

It seems like they keep putting paint on the house when the foundation is crumbling...

Madden is just about to lose me. I haven't played a game in 3 weeks. I got into U3, restarted FarCry 2, and NBA 2k10 is on the way. I will wait for the patch, if it ever comes, but the game is on an extremely short leash.

Yeah, this is getting ridiculous now.

Some of my friends think I am a wacko for playing an old game over a new one, but hey it satisfies me. It doesn't have as many issues as Madden and it is very playable but I hear the 2-Gay-Five remarks all the time - no biggie. I will play Madden but never buy it and I own a copy because it was given to me as a gift. It is just for party games and online play - nothing more. I had the opportunity to play this game when it first came out at a Bestbuy store - didn't like it. I think Madden's main problem is that the game play is very sluggish even with the fast speed on - too repetitive and boring. Do not get me started with the deep ball.

Another thing: What if I was to play Franchise in Madden- DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Steve Smith, and Julius Peppers are out for the season. What can I do with my roster? Nothing. The IR is broken. I have to either release them for new players OR discontinue the Franchise. It's 2009.
I agree with you and Valderez. In the begining, I was simply trying to be a glass half full, not empty type of guy. I tried to ignore all of the flaws present in Madden 10. I tried to get into franchise, but honestly, it's so bare bones it's not even worth it. You play the games, scout the players, sign free agents, draft players and then wash rinse and repeat.

After seeing punters, kickers and WRs on the oline and seeing no drop off, I simply can't bring myself to touch this game.

There's really nothing in Madden 10 that can be done that wasn't done last gen. We still don't have all of the features that were present in last gen. This is the 5th version of madden that's been released on this generation of consoles.

I gave up too finally. You know what did it for me...the in game pop-up ad's starting showing up every single game, every single play. It just makes's it too hard to concentrate. I'm trading it in today and won't ever be purchasing an ea sports game again.

This is a little OT, but the popup Ads were ridiculous. One of the worse, if not THE worse, game design decision ever. One of the posters in another thread suggested changing the Banners to 'Minimal'. When in a game, this can be found in Settings > Game Options (believe that's right) > Banners. I changed it to Minimal and I haven't seen a popup Ad since, and that's about 4 games later. Before I couldn't go a single game when connected to XBox Live without seeing a popup Ad. Give it a try. It may help remove the Ad thorn from your gaming enjoyment side.

I have seen a lot of posts and a video on this, and I have to say, while kind of silly, it's something that doesn't bother me, as it's not something that will ever occur in a real game. Now, if I could hot route a WR to block, and then send him over the middle and hike the ball while he was in motion, then it would be an issue, but I believe Madden forces the WR to clear the tackle or even to set (depending on play), so while it proves there's something wrong with the blocking mechanics or roster settings, it's not a game breaker for me by any measure.

I can live with the limitations of gameplay right now (no route based passing, block setups still bad / no way to direct your blockers), and with the defensive limitations (instant direction changes, DB's warping to ball, unrealistic leaps by LBs), it's the commentary of all things that's really ruining the immersion for me right now. Especially my ability to play game, after game, after game as I have done with other sports games like APF2K8 and NBA2K10 who have extremely good / dynamic commentary.

I hope they continue to evolve the ability to configure Madden. I would love to see more sliders, and even the ability to script the AI so the community can contribute AI scripts for given situations / teams.

I think even the people who like madden a LOT, say the commentary is weak at best. In fact i think release day people were complaining and just turning the commentary completely off. Its one thing EVERYONE can agree on.

Re: It was good while it lasted....

Philly playing Dallas in a huge game this weekend and I don't even remotely feel like playing it on Madden.
It's so sad.

The game held such promise pre-season and turned out to be a 6-10 team.

Like I've written before - I kinda feel bad for the development team, they're good guys who are trying hard. But this game simply can't be patched over. For everything they think they've fixed, something else gets broken.
And the turnover time between versions just isn't long enough.

To make a truly great game, they need Forza or Halo development time. Something sports games simply don't have.

I know - you guys will say MLB The Show, NHL, etc...

But those games were clearly rebuilt. Madden simply gets patched every year ... and, like I wrote, for every fix, there's a new problem.
