The Devs seem unwilling to give a "definitive" answer to that question, so my assumption would be YES, you have to restart any franchise after downloading a patch ... at least that's how it's always been in the past?
Why Ian or Josh haven't checked in to let us know for sure is beyond me ....? Good news is, three months after buying the game you can finally start a real franchise!!! haha

After Patch #1 THEY told us we do not have to restart our Chises to have the Patch take affect, Now Patch #2 we haven't heard enough about yet, So I guess we have to wait, Doesn't matter much to me. Because if we do have to restart I wont be, to far in my Giants Franchise to star over at this point, Week 15 of my 3rd season.. and I play all the games..

We did NOT have to re-start franchises after Patch #1. I know, because I was in the middle of my Chiefs 'chise Year One when the patch dropped. Now, all I read about are Bengals/Bears on the "fun facts" ticker. That's how I know the patch went through--the ticker glitch is there.
I'll assume the same about Patch #2 until I hear otherwise.
