How do you personally play defense?

My roommate takes control of a defensive end and tries to kill the QB on every play, and lets the rest of the defense do what they will.

I always use the strong safety, so I can close down attractive underneath routes that would otherwise be open. I'll usually go Man Under 2 or Cover 3 because it allows me to roam around without leaving a gaping hole somewhere, and I'll throw in the occasional blitz too. I don't go Cover 2 very often because having that deep half of the field without any help is scary, and I try to avoid having to cover a WR man-to-man because that is also scary. I mostly just provide run support and annoy my roommate by jumping his crossing routes, passes to the flat and screens.

He calls me cheap because there's no way I should be able to cover so many things at once, but **** him, this is the only way I feel like a playmaker. Being FS or CB is too risky because they're on an island too often, and being a LB isn't much fun because they're slow and get hit by lineman a lot. Being DL is just... too uninvolved. And good lord does getting a user pick and returning it to the house feel good!

So how do you play defense?

I control the MLB and attempt to play whatever assignment I'm supposed to play. Then I'll switch to whoever's closest if it's a pass to an area I'm not already covering.

Strong Safety. I roam with Yeremiah Bell and look to make big hits or go for interceptions on crossing patterns.

A lot of pass interference calls for badly timed big hits

Haha me to! So many times I could have had an interception but went for the big hit instead, only to have hit too soon.

I play NT on D, love fighting that block and stuffing the run. I try and attract as many blockers as possible, and free up my LBs to do their stuff

That's some funny stuff right there!!! All joking aside can you believe Oakland's D-coordinator didn't adjust for that ... I mean Sproles was killing them!

As for my defensive play in Madden, I almost always control the MLB when using the 4-3, and if/when I ever use the 3-4 I control the SS and play very aggressively with him (ala Palamalu). I NEVER switch players during a play, and for the most part I try to cover whatever duty my player is supposed to during each play.

I've never really played much as a d-lineman ... just doesn't seem like much fun? When I have tried it I usually seem to get "sucked in" by an o-lineman and remain stuck to them? Must be doing something wrong???
