I think the ratings would be awesome if they had a few objective fans of each team do them, as long as they all could agree on the same basic guidelines. Donny's great, but doing 1500+ players by yourself kind of limits how much you can find out about each player.

yeah i am not a huge packers fan but i do know there WR's well at least Jennings and driver are pure beasts when it comes to breaking free of tackles for extra yardage.

Those dudes are the truth when it comes to fighting for extra yards!!!!!!!!!!

Re: All Ratings Talk Here Per Millennium

Alex Brown DRE Chicago Bears - OVR 78
Adewale Ogunleye DLE Chicago Bears - OVR 83
Analysis over 11 games...
A. Brown (30) - 322 Blitz attempts - 5 Sacks, 9 QB Hits and 17 QB Pressures
A. Ogunleye (32) - 330 Blitz attempts - 5 Sacks, 4 QB Hits and 16 QB Pressures

While Browns pass rushing numbers may not be outstanding it's is impressive considering his true strength lies in his ability to defend the run. Alex Brown's effectiveness doesn't always show up on the stat sheet but his ability to close running lanes and influence the direction of runs shouldn't be ignored.

I don't see how Brown could be rated 5 OVR points lower than Ogunleye despite posting better pass rushing statistics and being much better against than run. I'd say put Brown up to around 82-84 (Despite being good in 08 he was terribly inconsistent in 07 and is about to hit the 30 wall) and take Ogunleye down a point or two.

The stats taken from a site called ProFootballFocus however I can't post any links because of posting restrictions (Google it).

Bobbie Williams RG Cincinnati Bengals - OVR 78

Williams is criminally underrated, he has been one of the only consistently good linemen on the Bengals for the past few seasons and his ratings have never reflected this.

For comparison I'm using Randy Thomas from the Redskins who is often considered one of the better OG's in the league (And in Madden).
Randy Thomas - 2008 (10 games at RG) - 364 Pass Plays -1 Sacks, 5 Hits, 8 Pressures
Bobbie Williams - 2008 (10 games at RG) - 394 Pass Plays - 2 Sacks, 2 Hits, 8 pressures (Though both sacks and 6 pressures came in just 2 games; diluting what was otherwise great pass protection during those 10 games)

Also there's this from a PFF article...

Only Chris Snee kept Bobbie off our All-Pro team last year and whilst Chris is looking favourite to be our starter again, it would be a shame to see Mr Williams not getting at least some credit. While he may only scrape into the top 20 pass protecting guards in the league it’s his run blocking that stands out. In this area not only will he bully a lot of the lighter defensive tackles at the line but he also shows the athleticism to get downfield on screens etc. The last game we graded him in (W8) was not his best; allowing the first sack we’ve seen him give up in two years (to Travis Johnson) and 4 pressures as well but I’m hoping for Cincinnati’s sake that’s an aberration as he’s likely to be the only Bengal to be at least worthy of Pro Bowl consideration by the seasons end.
I suggest something like an 85-86 or lower considering it's a slippery slope at 33 and beyond.

Re: All Ratings Talk Here Per Millennium

Others I will get around to making an argument for eventually...

Name/OVR/Team/New Rating

DT Ma'Ake Kemoeatu
77 CAR Panthers 83-86
It's a trend I've noticed with primarily run stopping NT's having low overalls but regardless when Ma'ake is healthy he is one of the best run stopping NT's in the game.

OT D'Brickshaw Ferguson 80 NYJ Jets 86-88
His 3rd year in the league and is finally realising some of his potential; quickly becoming one of the best all round LT's in the league.

OG David Dhiel 88 NYG Giants 82-84
Now while I'm willing to concede that Brandon Moore may be a product of his surrounding talent (Hence why I didn't suggest a ratings change) I have to say that Dhiel is most definitely a product of the elite linemen around him. He has been terribly inconsistent the pass two seasons in both pass and run blocking and it's clear he just doesn't have the footwork to make the transition from OG to LT.

LB Matt Roth 67 MIA Dolphins 77-84
I don't quite get the justification for this; Roth has benefited from the move to OLB in the 34 and showed last season he was the best run defending linebacker on the team. Perhaps you got that one trick pony Peezy mixed up with Roth?

QB Shaun Hill 69 SF49ers 71-73 (I know.. nitpicking)
Hill undeservedly get's a lot of flack from the media and is often labeled as one of the worse Quarterbacks in the NFL despite playing well (Albeit inconsistently) in limited time. Although Hill is relatively unproven he is on about the same level as Kerry Collins.

And the rest..
DE Justin Smith 83 SF49ers 87-91 Elite versatile lineman
LB Jarrett Johnson 79 BALRavens 83-85 Criminally underrated
P Sam Koch 86 BALRavens 89-93 Underrated elite punter

At Football Outsiders, we adjust the net average based on field position, so a player who often punts from midfield isn't penalized for hanging "short" 35-yard punts inside the 20. With adjustments, Koch had the best net punting average in the NFL, topping even Oakland's Shane Lechler, whose numbers are inflated by lots of punts from deep in his own territory. Thanks in part to Koch, Ravens opponents started their average drive at the 28.34-yard line, the seventh worst field position in the NFL.
And lastly; good job on the ratings this year.

Re: All Ratings Talk Here Per Millennium

This is CRAP!!!!

Kevin Smith (Detroit Lions)= 80 Overall

Matt Forte (Chicago Bears)= 89 Overall

K.Smith (YPC)= 4.1
M.Forte (YPC)= 3.9

K.Smith (TD's)= 8
M.Forte (TD's)= 8

Now Kevin Smith had around 75 fewer rush attempts than did Forte. The Lions were behind in most games so did not run the ball. So Forte had around 200 more yards rushing for the season.

How is there a 9 point difference in overall rating??????

Smith average more yards per carry and had the same amount of TD's. Is Smith too low or is Forte too high? I don't mind Forte being rated higher, I mind Forte being rated 9 POINTS HIGHER!!! That is too big of gap. It should be more like K.Smith (87) and Forte (stays at 89) or lower Forte rating down to 82 or 83.

There's no friggin way (based upon stats) that Matt Forte is 9 points better overall in Madden! This stuff really pisses me off.

This is not the best argument but... you do have a point about the lack of boosts certain players got based on there performance last year compared to others in similar situations.

Heres an example (I guess to try and help your argument)

80+ Overall: Chris Long (2008 - 1st round (2nd pick) by the St. Louis Rams)- 33 solo tackles, 4 sacks, 1 forced fumble

64 Overall: Trevor Scott (2008 - 6th round (3rd pick) by the Oakland Raiders)- 19 solo tackles, 4 sacks, 1 forced fumble

The difference??? Scott played around half the amount of snaps, next year he will play a larger role as he has proved his worth having been given very little opportunity.

LMAO and darrick brown got a 47!!! hahhahah what a spiteful rating!

Forte got all the media hype

Personally I found forte slightly over rated last year. Yards per carry not so good. He should have a better year with Cutler.
