Re: All Ratings Talk Here Per Millennium

Why do people care about ratings? If they play right, than leave them alone. Let the Madden guys figure out how to make everyone as realistic as possible, and if they do their job than we don't have to worry.

APs speed is only 93! Oh god! As long as he tears apart my Bears everytime I play the Vikes than I will be happy.

To be honest, I scratch my head a little when it comes to speed ratings...I mean, aside from having the guys line up and run it out, we don't really know who could beat who in a footrace...unless it happens in a game, of course...but it just seems like players who are deep threats should have the most speed...players like Steve Smith, you just don't get a chance to catch him in the open field...likewise with Reggie Bush, Devin Hester (if he catches something) and so on...Larry Fitzgerald isn't as fast as a 98...no way he's faster than Smith. But he is still an excellent receiver. I haven't watched too much of Colston, so I can't speak on him...but Smith is one of the fastest, most explosive players out there.

ian_cummings@DTown1 what should they be? Post in OS for discussion...

How many people agree that D. Hall was always over rated to begin with? I mean he is okay against average WR's but when up against anyone above average he is burnt toast!
He seemed to be even worst last season then ever before so a rating drop was needed but 77 OVR? More like 72... Just my thoughts.
As for Tom Brady! OMG that is INSANE! He hasn't played in a year! He had multiple surgeries! We don't even know if he is fully recovered but he only drops 1 point? Does anyone remember what happen to McNabb after his knee surgerie? It took him 2 years just to look half decent again!
Also I am a HUGE! NCAA fan and this is THE WORST draft class I have ever seen and yet these guys are given elite status right off the bat!?!? Even the guys on my team! They don't deserve that status!
And this is sim? I think not! Drop everyone from this draft 10-5 OVR, Drop Brady and anyone else that sat out ALL SEASON 10-5 OVR and then you can call this a sim without me breaking into laughter because to have us believe the worst draft class EVER will come in and play like elite players is outrageous. To have us beleive players can comeback from MULTIPLE surgeries and no game time in a full year and still be elite is OUTRAGEOUS!
DeAngelo deserves that rating if not higher...when he came back last year he was very consistent at the end of the year!! Watch he'll have a big year

Reputation/Superstar BS. You know superstars always get undeserved ratings to boost overalls

Re: All Ratings Talk Here Per Millennium

I do agree on one level, if Carson Palmer (im sorry, i'm a Bengals fan lol) misses a whole year and drops like he did but brady does as well and only drops one? im sorry thats just wrong, but on another level Tom is great.

I Hated the fact that ratings meant absolutey nothing in previous versions of madden, and with all the complaints, they definately will in madden NFL 2010

As far as D.Hall? He's good Keep him

Re: All Ratings Talk Here Per Millennium

everybody is going to disagree about the ratings so why don't the just make acceleration a bigger role. d ends are going to be the best at getting off the ball and other players should vary. speed should be the cap and acceleration should be how fast you get there. some people don't even hit their top speed in a 40 and some people get to their top speed at at 20-30 yards. guy like fitzgerald should have 98 for when he is running in a straight line but right off the ball he should have to build up to his top speed so hes not running an out or a post corner at 4.3 speed.

I say EA should just have the ratings unviewable. Maybe when we hire the scouting department they can give info to the best of their abilities on a player we are looking into. Ex. Say you are in the market for a WR. Instead of seeing ratings you see scouts comments. Then you use his comments and his stats to judge if you want to sign the player. In real football you don't see a player's hands ratings.

Larry Fitzgerald will in no way have a 98 SPD when the game drops. That's absurd.

Re: All Ratings Talk Here Per Millennium

Another problem with basing the Speed rating on 40-times is which 40 time do you consider valid?

For example, some college teams have turf, not grass. believe me, 40 times will change depending on the surface. it was even reported once that a school's field was marked incorrectly, which skewed their players' 40 times.

another example is Maclin. I saw a highlight video of his college games and the announcer said this kid ran a 4.3 40. but that's not the time he got at the combine. I think he had a bad combine 40 time cause supposedly he had some injury (forgive me, I didn't research and look up the kid's history/profile) but if you see the kid play you KNOW he's blazing fast. Even Sal Paolantonio reported from the Eagles first mini-camp that Maclin "has separation speed even DeSean Jackson doesn't have". So you CAN'T simply take one 40-time, especially at the combine, for a players' speed. I'm more concerned with in-game speed, quickness in and out of cuts, acceleration to separate from defenders with and without the ball.. All these are waaaaaay more important than the player's combine 40. and they're much harder to gauge as well.
