What makes athleticism? Speed, Agility and Strength right?

3 Players

Brian Leonard
Knowshon Moreno
Beanie Well

40 Yard Dash:
BL - 4.49
KM - 4.62
BW - 4.59

20 yard Dash:
BL - 2.60
KM - 2.69
BW - 2.62

20 Yard Shuttle (Agility 1):
BL - 4.22
KM - 4.27
BW - NA

Agility (3 cone drill):
BL - 6.88
KM - 6.84
BW -NA

Strength (225 bench press)
BL - 25 Reps
KM - 25 Reps
BW - 25 Reps

Looks to me like Leonard measures up. Right?
Again Michael Johnson was among the top in combine numbers when it came to DEs but he wasnt drafted high at all. Everyone can look good in shorts and a T-shirt.

Leonard doesnt have the FOOTBALL speed or quickness that Wells and Moreno have.

Wells is much more explosive, powerful and has better vision than Leonard. on the field

Moreno has better quicknes, speed and vision then Leonard on the field

Ok i get it. When all facts and stats point to the fact that there isn't really an athletic difference between the 3 you get to create a new stat called "Football Speed" which cant be measured. So when they do the 40 yard dash its for nothing. The combine is for nothing.

If you've never heard people use the term "Football Speed" before this guy... Oh man...

I've heard of "Football Speed" before but its not at all a real thing. Its a term used that holds no real bearing. A player just doesn't get faster or stronger when they are on the field. They can get an adrenaline boost while on the field but there is no magical transformation when you are out there. The facts are that the NFL and ever other sport goes by whats measurable. You can have all the heart and "football speed" but if you cant measure up to others while off the field then you wont get on the field.

Not true at all. Some guys are faster at being able to make reads and therefore don't have any hesitation when they're running, which can cause some people that may sprint at the same speed to be two different speeds when they're actually playing. Also, for some people, the pads and everything slows them down while others are unaffected. Just two areas in which Football Speed is different from 40 Yard speed.

Ok the first part i can agree with that you process information differently and react in a different way. From all account he does that very well. Hes a read and react player. He makes his cuts and goes.

The pads thing is partly true. The pads don't make players faster which is what the other guy was saying when he was talking about "football speed". I remember reading a story that after Leonard was drafted there was talk about him playing in pads and he did the 40 yard dash in pads and ran a 4.50 which is .01 slower then he did without so pads don't affect him at all.

Then I don't know what to tell you. I guess he's just deceptively fast. Looks slow but is just as fast as everyone else. lol I don't know.

Re: All Ratings Talk Here Per Millennium

Or it could be that Brian Leonard is just terrible because every time Jackson went down, Leonard would come in and not even be close as effective as Jackson was. Trust me, I know. He was on my fantasy team. He may be a little faster, but maybe they reduced his speed to make him just as effective as he is in real life.

Take the example of T.O. He's not fast at all and I'm sure his 40 sucked, but he still manages to get behind corners and run past the coverage. Sure, he may not have the straight line speed that others players have, but yet he's more effective than they are and he gets behind the coverage more than they do, so they bumped up his speed so the game can emulate that.

Trust me, Brian Leonard will NEVER be an effective back in this league. He's got great hands, but he will never, ever, be able to carry a load like other running backs. I think his speed is just fine.

I cut the TO BS out because thats not what we are talking about.

1. If he was on you FF team you must really suck at it because he only had 2 carries in 2008.

2. He had 86 carries for 303 yards in 2007 and has only logged 2 carries since.

3. He was injured last season with a shoulder injury so he shouldn't have been on your team at all

4. In 2007 Leonard averaged 3.5 ypc while Jackson averaged 4.2. Leonard's 3.5 wasn't bad at all for a rookie with a busted up O-line and it also didn't help that he ran out of the FB position a few times that season.

5. Why is everyone so quick to bury a 25 year old RB that has never been given a true chance to prove himself in the league?
