Re: Early look / prototype

On the pc version of madden when u switch hands with the ball u can also use those same buttons to stiff arm and it works perfect. It looks really good when u make the decision to switch the ball from one hand to another to protect the ball and stiff arm when u want.

I would then like to see the y button become the hurdle button. I love doing the hurdle on my own when a defender goes very low to tackle me , or when a defender is laying on the ground.

Everyone has a good point on both sides of this issue with protecting the ball.

Maybe EA can make it where u can customize the controls the way u want. This way if u want a hurdle button u get a hurdle button , and for those that want to protect the ball u can decide what buttons do that, or any thing u want. A full customizable way to do the controls might be the best.

I love the way your running system looks Ian, looks spot on. The only thing i would really really like to see is custom running/throwing styles, NBA has custom shot styles, well runningbacks, qbs throw/run a certain way, an example is adrian petersons extended finger and shoulder shifted running style, Philip Rivers's side arm throw etc... That would be AMAZING

Great start..As a former rb myself..alot of RB's use a high step before going in to a spin..(ex. Roger Craig -RB, SF 1980's) if you want, try it outbut good work..

I think that protecting the ball should be an automatic action. So then the carrying rating comes into play.

It doesn't make the game that much easier because most people dont even use "Protect Ball" because they dont even know its there and it is out of the way.
Perhaps something for a "Sim" setting? I'd like that as long as the cover up really works right.

I remember with 08 there was a lot of people saying that fumble problems were happening because people weren't covering up. But that was proven wrong when the devs released some information after the 08 sales cycle, stating once and for all that the fumble problem was real and it was a coding issue, not an end user issue.

Disclaimer: This is NOT in the game yet or anything...I just roughed this together in our animation tool.

I want your opinions on this concept! What else would you like to see? What do you like/dislike?

If you use this as an opportunity to talk about how stupid I am to be asking for feedback, you probably won't be around long. Let's use this as a good opportunity to share ideas and suggestions and stuff like that, ok?
Why do they run so calm and relax like they are 15 yards ahead of the defense, there is not urgency, they should move harder and act urgent. That running animation is just wrong. Hope you guys fix it.

Re: Early look / prototype

Question:

If in real life, not all spin moves result in the player moving a yard or two to the side, and some include the player being "forced" into a spin by an angle of a defender's hit, is it possible to include some of this in a spin in the game?

Also, as far as running:

Shouldn't there be a player looking back over his shoulder when he beats the defense?

What about a player leaning forward and driving the legs on short yardage runs?

Also, why is it that the runner gets knocked exactly backward so much? that almost NEVER happens in real life due to the amount of force required at a specific angle to do that. More often a runner is pushed sideways more than backwards.

And the urgency suggestion, if there is a clever way to add it without being unrealistic, is a good one.

Also, since you might look at this, one more thing needs to be added about presentation:

For the big screens in the stadiums, don't just copy and past what is happening on the field from the perspective of the guy holding the controller. Clearly in real life the JumboTrons do not have a behind the QB view.

Similarly, the replays done in between plays when the commentators speak used be from television camera angles, not from the angle seen by the guy holding the controller.

Thanks all!

Fake Jukes - I think you should be able to fake a juke. Make the defender think your going to spin or juke and when he adjusts you should be able to burn him.

Head slap - When a defender dives at you you should be able to side step him and push the back of his helmet to direct him away from you.

Analog stick alows you to hop from side to side, take a defender on head to head or step back. X stiff arm, O spin, Square Dive, Triangle Hurdle.
What if when you tap X a few times it gives you the stiff arm that Marion Barber uses. He likes to give several quick shots to the face mask.
Or if you tap O it fakes a spin but if you hold O it spins?
How about when you use the analog stick if depending on how far you push the stick determins how much you committ to the juke? Like if you push it all the way to the right it does the quick juke to the right, But if you start to the right and see a defender and quickly pull it back to the left it the rusher would fake to the right and bounce out to the left. Also holding L1, L2, L3 and/or R3 while juking would give you different jukes or at least a different style... Or maybe allow you to run a chain of Jukes.

Also Ian is there anything you can do about the line? When I am running I hit my linemen and get stuck can you make it so if you go behind one of your own guys you go right into using him as a blocker instead of getting all jamed up? And when one player runs into another can there be some kinda realism to that? I mean they don't have to fall but maybe stagger back or stumble away. At the very least it should slow them down.
