Defending the Wildcat in Madden 2010

I'll make the assumption that the Wildcat will be available in most of the Madden 2010 playbooks now that a considerable number of NFL teams are utilizing it.

If that's the case, a subject for the Madden team to consider is the addition of a formation with assignments designed to defend the Wildcat.

With that topic in mind, here's a great article with diagrams that details Bill Cowher's suggestions on defending the Wildcat.

These fool linemen cant even block on a simple trap play, you really think the wildcat is going to work?

Okay.

Re: Defending the Wildcat in Madden 2010

I already posted videos for the Ravens on how they stopped it. I don't want what they did a part of other teams playbooks though. But unfortunately, because of memory allocation, I'm not sure EA is going to be able to do that (have team specific schemes for it). They did some of those things Cowher talks about. They used a specific package and when Ronnie Brown went in motion, they countered with Nick Griesen firing down into the A gap and disrupting the pulling linemen. Lewis and Scott cleaned up the HB's. In that game the Dolphins lined up in the Wildcat 5 times and gained a total of 4 rushing yards. As I said in my other thread, they MUST put defenses in the game to stop the Wildcat. To not do that wouldn't be fair IMO.

I will put money on it one of madden trailers will showcase the wildcat. With that being said hopefully the Defense is assigned with ways to stop it because it is stoppable.

NCAA never got around to putting option specific defenses in(unless they were in this year, I didn't play). This is reason 2,456 why tier defensive play calling needed to be in. My guess is every team will have "Stop Wildcat Cover 2" in their playbook.

Hopefully, the sticky, suction blocking is out next year. That's half the battle.

I really hope the wildcat is in 2010, although I fear that it won't be because of issues the online sim crowd has with it.

That would be beyond unacceptable. I fully expect the Wildcat to be in Madden 2010 and available for online use.

Re: Defending the Wildcat in Madden 2010

I don't see why it wouldn't be now that I think about it. Even though I still say they should have specific defenses for it, it is in NCAA and it isn't good at all. Because of the blocking system it isn't a problem in NCAA and hence most likely wouldn't have been a problem in Madden.

Another offense that needs to be added, right now just to the Chiefs playbook, is the Pistol.
