nah, everything else looked fine....

I just noticed a blur effect...

I was thinking they did that to eliminate the PS2 trademark flicker. But who knows. It was real weird.

Now let me say this off the bat, its not that I think the PS3 is a bad game, because in my opinion its not, in fact I think its a good game, I just feel as though the PS2 version is a more complete game. How so you may ask? Well lets get something else out there. The PS2 version can't compete in terms of graphics or animations. Thats a given. And the franchise mode in both versions is pretty lame, although I would give the slight nod to the PS2 version only because of player progression in preseason and the fact that I can see position battles in the preseason. I know, pretty minute huh?

But on the field, the PS2 version stands above the PS3. The atmosphere for one is more enticing, given the refs on the field, the chain gang, the crowd, the grass stains during non weather games, the dirt infields during the first few weeks of the season, and the animated coaches. Again, its minute, but it really draws you in. And to be quite honest, I enjoy listening to Madden and Michaels call the game vs Collinsworth and Hammond, even though M&M's commentary has been recycled for many, many years.

But aside from the "fluff", the core gameplay is more solid. Fatigue, the ability to have player matchups, the ability to shade defenders inside or out to better guard slants and/or out patterns, smart zones on defense(being able to have your zone defenders "guard" the first down line) the ability of the QB avoidance, the cpu challenging plays, and seeing passes go awry and/or be dropped are really welcomed and once you play the older versions, you quickly realize how much you are missing them. Robo QB, as people have termed it, still seems the same in the PS2 as the PS3, although the user is given more weapons to counteract. At least, I guess given the complaints I've seen.

This isn't meant to bash the PS3 version nor meant to be used as a springboard to bash the next gen versions and EA, although we all know it will and which is why I was hesitant to post this at all. But I felt it could be useful to Ian and others to see what a fan of EA football fan thinks about the comparison between the two versions.

Anyhow, I'll stop here and let other discuss/debate my "findings" and hopefully this thread can stay mature and maybe offer some valuable feedback in regards to what a person like me is looking for in the PS3 version that it doesn't have yet, but really added to the atmosphere of the PS2 version. Who knows.

But please, lets not turn this thread hostile. If anyone has any specific questions about the PS2 version or would like to know more info on what I feel is better/worse, feel free to ask away. But I will answer one question that people may ask. Yes, I will and am still playing the PS3 version and yes, I now own both versions of the game. Ok, maybe I answered two questions.

Nice post. I have posted a few times here that the current gen engine is much better than the next gen engine, and I dont play it on the PS2 , I play on the PC but the PC uses the same engine that is on the PS2 , but the pc can display graphics of 1080p, and I feel that the animations and graphics of the pc version are better than madden 09 on the 360 or ps3 when at the resolution of 1920 x 1080.

Countryboy I find what u say perfect and I also feel u held back some not to get people arguing/not believing your beliefs. Anyways thxs for this post. It is what was needed to be said.
Now if they only go back to the engine that made Madden the fun game it once was.

I went and bought a 360 simply for the next-gen version of this game. How stupid am I?

I should've just bought a PS2 for a hundred bucks and gotten this game for that. Oh well, the Wii version ain't bad, just annoyingly kid-friendly and lacking features like create-a-team and create-a-player.

Hoping this is not too off topic. I'm going to give the PS2 game a run on my PS3. How easy is it to import rosters/draft classes for the PS2 game on the PS3? Thanks for the help.

Not hard at all actually, if you've got the right equipment. That would be a PS3 Memory Card adaptor, which is $15 brand new (I got mine online from Sony's store, here: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId=11035912). It plugs into the PS3 through USB, and you insert a PS2 memory card into it. From there, the card will be read and the contents will show up in the PS3's memory card utility. Then they can be copied to an internal card (and converted to a special PS3 format - PSV).

If you're planning on converting your old PS2 saves (anything, not just Madden) that would be your best bet. One thing though - I've read that some people have trouble getting memory cards of over 8 MB to work with the adaptor - probably because the official cards are 8 MB. If you've got a 16 MB or bigger, you might want to copy the files to an 8 MB one first.

Hope that helps! The best thing it was able to do for me personally was convert my Star Ocean 3 Battle Trophies save, which had the upper difficulty levels of the game unlocked. That was something I did NOT want to have to repeat on the PS3!

Plus since I'm a heavy CPU-only type gamer, it's easy to set up the game and just watch the CPU duke it out (and be able to tweak it with sliders that have visible effects!)

I don't know if it's better, but it's a nice change of pace from the PS3 game sometimes. I'm glad I got it (and cheap, too).I'll definitely have my eye on 2010 when it returns to the PC - it was just taking a year off, right?
I am also hoping for a Madden return to PC, I have not read or heard anything about it returning to PC in 2010, I may have missed something if it was recent....I was "told" no plans were in the works for another PC version so I quit researching it. But yeah....I am with you on this.....I like what the PC can do, esp if played on a "game-system" and the availibility of all the cool downloads. Creating a team can be fun. Maybe 2010....

Gawd, I remember the first time I played Madden (and NCAA) on the deuce, there were the sounds of angel harps and an outbreak of goosebumps.
Yeah...that first time......I remember it well..... *sigh*....

Re: After playing the PS3 version for about 2 months and the PS2 version about 5 days

I remember when I first got a PS2....the first two games I got for it was Madden and All-star Baseball and I was straight up blown away about everything. The jump from PS2 to PS3 just doesn't seem to be nearly as impressive as the Jump from PS1 the PS2. I remember just being so excited and pumped to play at that time. I dont know if its because I'm getting older, or because games aren't as good, or what....but I'm just not as pumped to play anymore like I used to be.

CB... I took your advice man and picked this up.

Let me just say:

THANK YOU

Why oh WHY can't they take this engine and just upgrade it to current gen. SO much fun.

And yes, while it's PS2, I actually think the graphics look very good all things considered. This will be my football game of choice this year.
