Re: After playing the PS3 version for about 2 months and the PS2 version about 5 days

Okay, so I was bored and wanted to try something different. While I was renting my son a movie on our Blockbuster pass, I decided to pick this game up for rent on the pass as well. The differences are clear and have been discussed already. I just wanted to point out a bit of IGN irony.

On a whim I looked at the PS2 reviews and IGN was the first to pop up. After reading it, I was impressed. Not with the game...lol...but the review. The guy didn't go on about graphics, he talked about the gameplay. He was going on and on about how they took a clear direction towards casual gamers by only adding depth to features like all-play and dumbing down the playcalling, etc. He also was upset about the menus and the feeling of franchise mode being futher dumbed down for casual gamers. He gave it a 7 and seemed almost offended that they ignored the more hardcore football fan.

Contrast that to the 8.8 (really?...I had never read the review, I normally go to IGN for comedy purposes only) the current gen version got and I just laughed. The funny thing to me is the last gen actually plays better football in some ways and presentation is more in-depth (though apparently recycled. 09 was the first Madden I even sniffed for last gen since 06 and it did seem "familiar."...lol). The PS3/360 review went on and on about the great presentation and amazing animations. It was two different writers, but I just found the irony of the contrastingreviews humorous. I think they should get the guy doing the last gen reviews on current Maddens. It seemed a much more honest and "real" review.
Anyway, back to the newer stuff

I was really dissappointed with IGN's ps2 review and am really starting to wonder if they hand out scores based on money coming from a particular company. There is no way that 09 for the ps2 should get the lowest rating that IGN has given a ps2 Madden game when in fact it is clearly one of the best in the series. I think it is pretty obvious that somebody is telling IGN to promote the 360/ps3 version and down play the ps2 version.

Well, with not much at all added to 09 from 06,07,or 08, what's left to review? Granted, I'm playing the PS2 version now, but you have to admit, it IS the same game, complete with the same commentary, since 06. So I sorta agree with the review-----same ole, same ole, with some minor additions.

This is true and is the reason 09 well probably be the last version I get for the PS2 even if they release a 2010 version.

If it is in fact pretty much the same Madden ps2 game since 06, shouldn't it have gotten around the same score then? Or did they lower it a full point because of the lack of change?

I had been playing the 360 versions since 06 so I haven't gotten to play 06-08 on the ps2 for Madden. Is the core gameplay and AI really the same with all those ps2 versions? Did they just add/improve animations and roster updates from 06 to 09 and that is it? Just curious is all.

I think they lowered it because it's the same game.
yes, pretty much if you play 06, then you've played 09 with updated rosters as well as celebrations. Animations seem a little better than say 07, but overall, it's the same game....

I think the game is a lot smoother and more responsive. Gameplay from LG 06 to LG 09 isn't that big of a difference. But gameplay from NG 09 to LG 09 is huge. And sadly, imo, LG 09 wins in that department.

Re: After playing the PS3 version for about 2 months and the PS2 version about 5 days

So I was just now messing around on my Madden '08 for PC, and caught something very interesting.

Am I the only one who didn't know that the last-gen auto-sub sliders are GLOBAL - meaning they affect both the user and the CPU? From what I can tell, that's almost as good as a true fatigue slider - it directly controls when all players will exit and return to the field.

If other people weren't aware of this, I can prove it by showing you guys how to see it - it should be the same for any of the last gen console Maddens - '09 included. Also, this works the same way in franchise mode too.

It's something I truly didn't know - I always thought, year after year, that the sliders only affected the user's autosubs, and that the CPU would ignore them. As such, I never really messed with them at all. It comes as quite the shock.

Re: After playing the PS3 version for about 2 months and the PS2 version about 5 days

I finally took the plunge today and sold my PS3 edition of Madden '09 for the PS2 version at my local Gamestop. The clerk behind the desk said to me, "Why are you selling it? Football season isn't even over yet." I explained to him that I was fed up with the glitches and lack of features that are readily available on the last-gen version. He said that he heard that a lot and quite a few people have sold their 360 or PS3 copy in disgust. I hate sacrificing the great graphics of the PS3 edition, but I know I'll have a more enjoyable and in-depth experience in the long run. Put it this way; I've dumped the super-hot girl with no personality for the cute girl who's a sweetheart and a lot of fun to be around.
