After playing the PS3 version for about 2 months and the PS2 version about 5 days....

I've seen quite a few posts from people that still prefer the older gen Madden games. It is kind of an indictment of sorts on just how far the "Next generation" of Madden games haven't come....especially after four years. I fully expected that by this time, the older versions would be nothing more than a distant memory. I sure never thought that we'd be longing for what those games had to offer over what we have now. It's kind of sad that we still use the older gen games as a measuring stick against the new gen games. And in many ways...the new gen games don't measure up.

Myself...I've played the newer gen Madden games too long to go back now, but I sure understand those who have/do. Overall I have a positive opinion of Madden '09'...but over the next few years it is time for EA/TIB to step it up, and make us forget what was.

It's because so far, many developers (def not just madden) feel the need to utilitze the next gen's power for graphics first and fun-factor second, unfortunately...

I wish it were that simple JV. One of the factors is that tiburion kept focusing on the ps2 version (Phil just came up to 360, not sure about Ian). It wasn't until this year that we began to see drastic changes this year.

The worst thing about this year's game is the man coverage. It is just SO bad that there is no defensive strategy this year. It's zone all day which just gets boring after awhile. I was hoping this would be a secret fix for patch 2 (like the lob fix, yes it happened, gideon pointed it out and I tested it), but it wasn't addressed.

There sure wasn't talk about Madden being equal or better on the PS1 after 4 installments on the PS2. With this talk, EA might yank the PS2 version to eliminate the competition (like Coke sueing Coke Zero

)...I joke about the last comment.

Gawd, I remember the first time I played Madden (and NCAA) on the deuce, there were the sounds of angel harps and an outbreak of goosebumps.

CB you beat me to it! i was gonna write this very some post after buying the ps2 version last week and it feels like i was under water without air for weeks...

I might rent the PS2 version in a bit and pop it into the PS3 and see. Maybe with the HD it will look a bit sharper as well. i do think that the "Next Gen" Madden is finally headed and the right direction though...and with the right guy leading the way.

Hate to be the guy to say it, but "Next Year" lol. Hopefully if they pull PS2 next year, Madden will be great so it won't matter.

Thanks CB for this post. Sure sheds some light on those that constantly complain about Next Gen Madden. I never played Madden on the PS2 since I was a 2K guy but damn Madden really needs to move this game along. No excuses. I am enjoying the Next Gen Madden but c'mon!

Like I said, I still enjoy the PS3 version, just that I am more drawn to the PS2 version.

I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...
