No doubt. Perfect example with a sports game. Even TEAM tendencies are customizable. Imagine, being able to set the percentage of times NE comes out in the shotgun formation, or how often PIT blitzes against you.

Exactly, so you're conceding the player ratings are MEANINGLESS which in turn makes drafting, free agency and trades POINTLESS. Like I said, you're playing against different uniforms and your slider settings. This isn't an indictment of people who want sliders but the design of the game.

With that said, I think this thread--unfortunately--is a small case study on the very thing I've been harping on since I got here... we need A LOT more options/customizations functions, sliders, on/off's etc. And the reason is a simple one; play styles and tastes are highly variable. So variable that while there will be some who won't feel affected at all by the lack of CPU sliders, there are others who will be and it will turn out to be a game killer.

I said in a post a few weeks back that if how the game looks and plays/feels is more in the hands of the user, the user will be compelled to take greater responsibility over his experience, thus lessening the complaints about the very things that before he couldn't modify because there was no option to do so, provided that the user customization functions affect what they're programmed to affect.

This would've been the perfect year to do it, but now that this isn't possible, my hope is that the Madden Team is taking this thread not just for its negative, but as a springboard to making Madden 2010 and beyond a game that is truly and deeply user customizable in addition to play-style adaptable. User customization has been a big deal with products since last gen. If Madden latches onto it, I have a very strong hunch that a lot of the same complaints we see rampant across the net will all but vanish when the user has master control over it. Just think of things like a uniform editor eliminating the many uniform complaints? A fully functional CPU slider set eliminating most difficulty and reaction time complaints? A video editor eliminating color and brightness complaints? A full body editor eliminating player model proportion complaints... And so on and so forth.

I trust and believe that Ian and Phil understand these needs, and I'm fully confident that they will get it done. Already with them in control, this franchise is taking a better direction than the previous 3 years for sure, so there is no reason to think that this upswing can't continue. Regardless of what the lack of CPU sliders will do (and that's still yet to be determined by the masses), I'm sure this game will still be playable for the great majority of people.
Fantastic post!

No, I'm not conceding that player ratings are useless. I'm sure if freaking Joey Harrington is completing 70-75 percent of his passes, then Peyton Manning is likely at the 80-85 percent range.

But it's obvious, don't you think, that player ratings alone aren't enough for most people to get the balance they desire. That's why sliders are so important, and, like I said before, why it's so incomprehensible for a company that's been producing this game for 20 years to fail to realize this.

If player ratings still remain relative to each other then fine. And that would only be if you make equal slider adjustments to both User and CPU.

That's my point. It should be If players played according to their ratings (AWR most of all) then that should be enough. Not every game should be a challenge just as not every game should be a blowout. But I'm living in some kind of dream world I guess to ever expect that to happen.

Because they are using the "wait and see" approach. TheFuture15 said so himself somewhere on page 31 or 32 (the guy who works at EA).

Do I use sliders? Rarely. But to take something out of the game that:

A) has been available for several years now

B) allows the player to customize the game to his/her liking

is never a good thing. Customization is always a good thing. Always.

Guys, we don't need sliders. This is the first sports video game that adapts to you. I know you see it everywhere.

haha, jk. but maybe it won't be so bad.

Re: More info on CPU Sliders (from EA)

I suppose that once I get the game, all this slider stuff won't be quite as confusing as it is right now.

As of right now...I'm still a bit mixed up with this slider thing...and sub slider whatever. I do feel however that we did lose something pretty important....flexibility, of our own choosing. I guess I'll just have to adapt.

Losing the ability to re-map my controller is puzzling. I take it that was an oversight?...I hope so. If they purposely removed it....please bring it back.
