Re: More info on CPU Sliders (from EA)

In other news Honda and Toyota are coming out with cars that no longer have AC/Heaters. The car will adjust the temperature inside depending on what the temperature outside is! We will no longer be able to adjust the temperature to our liking the car will decide. We went from having DUAL climate control heated and cooled passenger seats to the car will decide. Looks like EA did the same, instead of giving us more options to fine tune gameplay to OUR LIKING, the CPU will decide for you. Wow this is getting to be really bad, actually this FLAT OUT SUCKS!!!!!!!!

PS........ Toyota and Honda will still have AC/Heaters in their cars, thank god these company's are not that stu...

Re: More info on CPU Sliders (from EA)

I know some people have talked about CPU Run Block and HUM Break Block being redundant, but they are not.

The Run Block slider of old affected the amount of push the line got, while Break Block affected how well people got off of a block. We no longer have the ability to adjust how much push the CPU gets off the snap, and that's a very big deal.

Same thing with pass blocking... a higher pass block rating would help maintain a more realistic pocket, while Break Block could help offset the fact that setting it like that would give the CPU more time.

CPU QB Accuracy, WR Catching, RB Ability, Awareness, and Knockdowns cannot be adjusted through these sliders. From what I saw from the Demo, Knockdowns is going to be a huge loss.

No special teams sliders hurts badly. Those were absolutely necessary to help offset the pitifully easy kicking game.

Ian - I hope you can answer this one and I apologise now to the rest of the guys on here as I know I'm in the minority with this, but how does all of this affect us that like to play cpu v cpu?

From the stats you posted of a cpu v cpu game on all-pro they looked really good - presumably we are stuck with the difficulty level which we select for these types of games, with the inability to tweak anything. We have to rely on what was coded for that difficulty level out of the box....I'm not saying this is a bad thing if games play out like the one you posted.

I just wondered if you could shed any light for us cpu v cpu'ers out here.
Thanks.

Perfect example as to why you don't add gimmicks. As soon as I heard the marketing splash over adaptive AI my first question was "How bad will it screw up the game?" Now that the graphics look great can we just focus on improving the important stuff - gameplay, presentation, online, franchise?

Unfortunately, that doesn't always translate into success because the machine(EA) is more powerful than the cog(Ian).
I agree with you - to a point. Sure, there's no sense in beating up the messenger, but if you know something's missing that's kind of expected, unless they were told specifically not to mention it unless it was brought up, I can't overlook that.

But regardless, the issue isn't with them - it's much higher up. Gotta appreciate the fact that they even address it - I remember when the 2K guys were battling back issues of bugs for whatever bball game that was. Not required, but definitely welcome.

Re: More info on CPU Sliders (from EA)

I originally posted this in that QB Stat thread and it got ignored but:

Quote:
It would be nice to see along with QB stats, what the defense did (i.e. how many knockdowns, hurries, sacks, INTs, passes that were dropped, passes that were batted down). If Young or Jackson has 6 incomplete passes thrown, yet 3 of them were drops by WRs, and the other 3 were INTs, it doesn't translate as well to real-life stats.

With those 2 QBs in the example, they should be all over the board. Hopefully, they would have have their share of rush attempts too.
If EA can't simulate how real-life QBs are, then the engine obviously still needs work. In last-gen, there were overthrows and underthrows that were not touched by anybody. It sure seems like now, all incompletions are catchable (i.e. within the vicinity of a player, either offense or defense).

There are other ways like lowering your IQ level to rookie for pass defense. This will make the cpu help you out more in this department. Possible even making the cpu qb play dumber.

There still are Special Teams sliders...you might have missed the post but I put up a screenshot (in my response to Nza).
