Agreed. After I awoke from last nights hangover, I remembered how I struggled to get the sliders close to NFL stats on coach mode with the PC. It would literally take a few months of testing with the help of several testing the game cpu vs cpu.

There could be a silver lining through all of this.

What CAN we talk about here, if we're not allowed to voice our utter distain for everything related to Madden 2009?

I for one would love to view a list of the supposed "new" sliders. That would be nice.
As a friendly suggestion, I would change your sig. It won't last long. You will need to look at the TOS to see what is allowed and what isn't.

That's my thought as well. I get caught up in too much slider tweaking and testing nowadays. It gets old and frustrating for me. However, we should always have the option to tweak the game to our playing style and skill level.

Last night was absolute madness in this thread. I actually found myself laughing this morning as I ate my breakfast. You would have thought gas went up to $14.00 a gallon overnight or something and EA was to blame.

I think the frustration is lingering from NCAA still. That was a bad screw up. And then this just doesnt make sense. As we all have said, priority number one every year should be to take last year's game and perfect it, tweak it, and make it bug-free, and when that is done, then you think about new features. Right now, it seems the opposite.

Most of the ill will towards EA last night i think comes from people just being tired of what seem like careless decisions. NCAA has some terrible bugs, and while its playable, its not what we wanted, so alot of us, me included were looking to hang our hat on Madden this year. And we hear this about sliders. The community guys were saying how far ahead of NCAA Madden was/is (and im not doubting it), but this took a little polish off of it last night

Re: New and More Sliders!!

My daughter is in Spongebob mode right now so I am going off memory; I'll look again later this morning, but I think it's like this:

Each Base Slider has three subsets.

Rushing:
Break Tackle
Fumbles
Run Blocking

There does not appear to be a "speed" slider so boosting this will not make Jamal Lewis run like Gayle Sayers. Thet RBlock slider works well, btw.

Passing:
WR Catching
Pass Blocking
Accuracy

I still don't see what the Accuracy slider actually does. I set mine to 25 and I don't see a visual difference in the accuracy of passes. I'd love to hear from Ian what this really does -- is it more about arm strength?

Run Defense:
Reaction Time
Tackling (90% sure of this one)
Shed Block (I THINK that's one)

Pass Defense:
Interceptions
Reaction Time
Pass Rush

The Special Teams sliders are inside a different menu, for some reason. I have no idea if they affect CPU and Human players.

There are more penalties called in Madden than in NCAA. In NCAA, on default, there were...well..none. I see a few calls a game with the pen sliders at 50.

The problem here, for me at least, is that I can't fix the CPU Accuracy or make the CPU run the ball better. Yeah I can lower my tackling, but I don't want to make every CPU HB run over me like John Riggins and his mohawk.

Some of the human sliders make it so that the AI sorta fixes itself -- stuff like a Pass Rush slider. I think that's all you need. But a WR catch slider is needed for the CPU. So is a slider for QB ACC as well as DB reaction times.

Re: New and More Sliders!!

Perfect, Bill. Thanks as always. Ian/Phil, can you confirm if A) he covered it all and B) how each slider works and what it affects. Seems to allow us to adjust alot of items, but not all

Re: New and More Sliders!!

I'm posting this from beyond the grave as I slit my wrists as soon as I found out there are no CPU sliders. But seriously, big f'n deal it's a videogame. Since when has Madden been an accurate simulation of the sport? They've tried but honestly it hasn't been fun. I like the direction EA is going by appealing to the casual gamer and I think the adaptive AI thing is definitely intriguing. Tinkering with CPU sliders for hours on end to replicate the box scores you see on sundays is not my idea of fun. Despite it's well documented problems I haven't had as much fun with any NCAA game as I have with '09. The Madden 09 demo has sold me as well. I wasn't going to buy the game until I realized they scrapped the stupid CPU sliders. Now it's a must buy for me. I know I'm in the minority but I'm a maverick like that.

Hmm, so I wonder if a workaround might be to up the pass rush to encourage more errant throws by the cpu qb, but then lower reaction time to even it out (if that)?

That idea might work like a charm since the CPU QB on All-American makes errant throws when pressured. This would make the HUM interception slider very important so all of those "errant throws" wouldn't result in interceptions.
