That's a shame, because in the demo, I saw a few passes drop short and thought throwing on the run was improved...odd. Hopefully, they didn't screw with anything like that right before release. I don't understand, to be honest. Oh well, I'll find out when I rent. Hopefully the patch touches on this and again, it would be nice to get feedback from the devs about this slider thing. Thanks for all the info, by the way!

we hear from Ian or Adam. It would make NO sense to remove CPU sliders. Some of us have different talent levels. And if you are winning 42-7 all the time.......im pretty sure the CPU should be harder (no offense to your stick skills)
Ha. Believe me when I say -- I do not have great stick skills. Now, baseball games...I can play some videogame baseball, baby!

But football, a sport I am very passionate about, I am very average at playing. From the 2K days of league play to NCAA...I'm about a .500 player online, playing with buddies. (I do refuse to play random people, though.)

I played another game and updated the blog. I don't think I can play a franchise using my IQ thing. I think if EA can patch the QB accuracy it'll be a lot of fun regardless of the CPU slider stuff. I just want some passes to miss their mark is all.

I love the graphics and even though I think some people will dislike the new "feel" of the game I kinda like the quicker cuts and the new animation. And like I said, I LOVE the Backtrack feature.

Re: New and More Sliders!!

So QBA, pass block etc, these can only be changed for humans? Has someone tried making the QBA slider really low to see if it effects CPU QB accuracy?

It's possible the gameplay has been balanced so identical sliders between human and CPU is effective, although that's doubtful, not to mention restrictive regardless.

Unfortunately I kinda had a feeling something was going to hit the fan with 09, like in those "is anyone else scared Madden will be busted" threads.

So, aside from the slider drama and QB accuracy, would it be fair to say your overall impression is positive? From the demo, I loved the running and "struggle" moves. How's the defense feel? Sorry for the barrage of questions...lol. I'm kinda firing off as they come to me.

Yeah, I was also thinking this. As I posted eariler, it doesn't make things "better", but it does help address the thinking behind it, to a small degree.

No need for an apology.

It's hard to say, really. The QB accuracy really throws it off balance right now, plus I played a game using My Skill settings and it overcompensated so much that I picked off Ben 4 times with the Browns. In my games I'm hovering around 70-75% with Anderson.

And yeah, you still see regular Madden/NCAA stuff like running out routes 3 yards out of bounds, too much juking from the CPU RB, stuff like that.

But Pitt sacked me 4 times, I got to Ben twice, and the kick return game is nowhere near as borked as NCAA.

So yeah, if the accuracy can be toned down, and again I don't want to get too definitive after playing only 4 games or so, but based on that small sample, if the accuracy can get reeled in a bit it will help considerably. I still need to play a game where Pittsburgh can run for more than 40 yards on the Browns. I know we improved our defense...but yikes.

Re: New and More Sliders!!

Day 1 patch is apparently " oops we forgot the CPU sliders!!!"

I know it's a term thrown around much too often, but no CPU sliders and every CPU pass being an "event" (catch, drop, int, etc.) are both legitimate game-killers in my opinion. It had become increasingly obvious that the closest thing EA does to testing is Community Day, when the game is basically already 'finished'

Re: New and More Sliders!!

Wow. Since 2000, I have picked up NCAA on day one (or before) every year except this one. For the first time in 8 years, I do not own the newest version of NCAA.

I was set on buying Madden this year. It would be my first next gen Madden as the game finally looked like it surpassed NCAA in terms of quality.

Now I read this.

Unless I hear this is not the case, I will not be buying Madden either.

First time in probably 15 years that I will not be purchasing a new iteration of an EA football game.

Even bigger, as I don't see anything else on the EA release calendar that interests me, it looks as if 2008 will be the first year since 1993 that EA will not receive a single dime from my wallet.

I doubt that I am alone in this.

Re: New and More Sliders!!

Also, are the gameplay sliders (i.e. not the pass/run/run-d/pass-d difficulty sliders, the QBA, PBK, CTH, etc) actually labelled 'Human' when you access them? If not, that may reinforce them as global. If there is a Human label though, perhaps there is meant to be a CPU set and it's being patched on release day.

It seems weird to spend the year coming to a hc/sim community like OS (well, largely anyway) and taking in ideas and concepts, only to remove a feature that has been in Madden for many years. The kind of radical change that is totally unnecessary. Hopefully there is more to this than EA just taking them out.

Bill, have you tried to find the CPU sliders in game?
