Full game w/ EA Designers (Colts vs. Vikings)

As promised, a full game of two gameplay designers in a heated Thursday a.m. battle:
Ian Cummings (Vikings) vs. Sean Bailey (Colts)

I'm going to play Ian Corleone for a second here...since we did this favor for you all, I wanted to ask a slight favor in return. Before you post any notes on anything you see wrong in these videos (which I am not going to discourage you to do), first please try to post at least 3 things you saw that you actually liked. We still want all the constructive criticism, but it also helps to see what stands out that people actually like so we can either a) expand on those areas in the future or b) steal ideas or concepts and apply them elsewhere. Not bad.I do like the variety of uniforms you have here. I do like this will we get a list or screenshots of the uniform changes?.

and also is this the beta model or finished model and if its beta? what can we see change from this to the final?

and the only changes i would like to see is more excitment from the play by play guy if a ball is thrown down the field, or ran back for a touch down.
other than that not bad.

it looks like to me you guys are going back to what made madden well... madden. to me this reminds me of madden 2005 the graphics the lighting and the texture reminds me of madden o5 which isnt bad. i say keep this and next year just build on it like the way it was in the olden days.


The positive

1.smooth animations

2.accurate throwback uniforms used

3.Colts socks have changed

4.better broadcast and good view outside of the stadium.



The bad and what needs to be changed

3.add more of interviews with the coach during half time.

4.and add more on players going in the tunnel of their respectful away and home..

5.show helmets taken off when they are going off the field

7. players faces have to get better show more emotion(ie 2k)

8.and you dont have to do it like that but add on it with NFL network.

9. and lastly Change the way the camera shows on the coach dont let it follow the coach. show them the way broadcast goes.

The graphics look nicer, lots of plays which look good, and more people on sideline looks better.

but some notes i would say.
first as was mentioned in the other thread the qb throwing leg thing has gotta go. commentary seemed extremely boring - why were there so many long stretches with nothing being said. More importantly - the commentators didnt even act like they were together, just 2 separate guys. No interaction between them at all. Fly by the field and stadium after every play looks bad presentation wise. No stat overlays and player closeups like tv.

As far as gameplay goes, I think the main aspect to work on is plain animations. Something to make it look smoother, more realistic movements. Players still have an odd feel that makes them seem robotic in a way. Player models could use work as well - although better than before - still give you that "stubby" feeling that has always been mentioned. Make them taller or something? Maybe longer limbs? I cant figure out exactly what makes them look stubbier but they do. Also a small note is their stance - it never looks natural - robotic again.

i still think it looks pretty good overall - but those are some major things to work on.

Ok first of all the positives as you requested Ian.

1. Graphics are excellent. Player models look fantastic.
2. Liking some of the new tackles. Much more realistic.
3. Seemed like the teams played more like their real life counterparts.
4. Animations are much improved.
5. Crowd reactions seemed much better.

The bad.

1. The offensive linemen missed way to many blocks. Hopefully you can tune this before the release.
2. Probably directly related to the above statement, the running game seems like it may be a little to hard.

I can't really think of to many more negatives. The game looks great IMO. I am very excited. Thank you for all of your hard work, it really seems like this game is headed in the right direction in a big way!!!

Game still moves too fast. Peyton Manning couldn't roll out that quickly, if he was 10 years younger. I'm still worried about pass protection, too. It was far too easy to get to the QB in '08, and looks that way again in '09. I can imagine how easy it is against the CPU, which could lead to the...... CPU turnover issue making it's way back.

I'd love to see a human/CPU game, before judging - but that won't be happening, so I'll just cross my fingers, and hope for the best.

Might as well do mine too:

The good
1. Tight control & responsiveness
2. Not a single pass hit a guy without him playing a catch anim
3. Graphically much improved
4. No more radio guy...Collinsworth rocks
5. Dynamic stat banners!
6. Animation blending is 500% better - very few pops

Needs improvement
1. Commentary overall
2. Presentation overall (no cut-scenes)
3. OL/DL play
4. More animation variety - same post play celeb and strip ball tackle seen multiple times
5. More "awareness" - head tracking, looking around, etc. Players often look straight ahead when they run
6. Not much emotion from commentary / sound / animation on the final drive
7. Stats are unrealistic. Need accel clock or longer default quarter lengths.

The first thing I don't like is that I have to wait 2 months to play this.

Things I like.

1. Did I just see one player help another up from the other team? I don't remember seeing that before (then again I sold 08 after two weeks to be honest). I liked it, new or not.

2. Loved the stutter step animation for the first Colt punt return.

3. Chop block...Nice!

4. You can really see the foot planting this year too.

5. Some great new tackle animations, gang tackling as well.

6. I hate Cris Collinsworth in real life. But dude sounds great in the game. Especially for his first video game gig. I wish Hammond sounded better, but he's passable.

7. That errant pass in the 3rd by Jackson..with the Colt defender batting it down....NICE. Shows me a real step forward in the passing game. Kudos.

8. Seems like you can really put touch on the ball this year.

Things I didn't.

1. Some players still seem too stocky. Would love to trim them down a little.

2. Didn't see many auto replays. When the Vikings scored, nobody cared either. Crowd is unresponsive, and the other players don't seem to care.

3. Seems like a frame gets dropped here and there (could just be the video though)

4. I still think you guys need to slow down the speed just a tad, or maybe tighten up the frame rate.

5. Half time show is still god awful. But I know that will be improved next year.

--Ian is it too late to increase the frequency of stat overlays for players pre and post play? It's better than it was, but would like a lot more frequent. I don't see the draw back?

-- Overall so far Ian whistle to whistle looks just night and day from last year for me. Loving it. Down the road would like to see a little more "life" in the game. Post play emotion...not one guy pumping his fist. The crowd go a little more crazy in key situations and TD's...big plays, etc.

Thanks for posting this. Can't wait til August. I'm all over the Anniversary Edition.
