Followup on the Gang Tackling Response

Very valid feedback. But the good news is that your feedback is really only applied to the motion capture and not the tech behind it (guess which one is easier to fix... ) . We captured many of them like that on purpose because it's really hard to get players to do getups when they are all stuck on top of each other (which btw I bet will be a big issue for the Backbreaker guys to figure out). IMO, this is where 2k had some ugliness a lot of times where you'd see players slide apart while they were still on the ground (I'm sure someone could post an example of that if need be).

As we move forward though and get a lot more people in the mix, we'll need to solve that getup issue and we can capture more specifically to have them really pile on more.

I definitely see what you're saying. I think the system EA has in place is good in the videos, it's just the animations aren't intense. The 2nd defender seems to just want to get a hit in instead of really taking the ball carrier down. In the NFL and football in general guys are beasts. The animations that are in place now don't display that. Still looks waaaaay better than anything in Madden 08.

Again, this is awesome feedback. What this means (in short) is that our stunt guys are in for a world of hurt at our next mocap shoot. It's understandable that our gang tackles come across a little tame...right before we shot them one of our stunt actors got a lacerated kidney on a cut block we were trying to do...so I think the guys were a little wary that day. I'd like to post that vid...it was a pretty nasty hit.

That gives me an idea, I wonder if there'd be any issue if they let me post mocap videos right after we capture them this year...that would be like unprecedented pre-release communication...I honestly don't see what issues it could cause. I bet you guys would be really stoked to get that super-early preview, and if you see anything you don't like there'd be plenty time to fix it during production.

Quick question about the whole breaking out of tackles thing Is that going to be something like 2k had as soon as a tackle starts you would mash x button etc... or is it you just push the x button or stiff arm button once? How is that all going to play out.

BOOO! That's cheating bro!

Honestly...I actually kind of hate when other games do that...the big magic warps during the camera cuts. It's so noticeable to me...breaks continuation. 2k5 did that a LOT, but they hid it pretty well with their nice broadcast cameras. There are places for that, but IMO it shouldn't be after normal tackles.
