Re: NFL Simulation Sliders 1.0 from Valdarez (tuned for Slow Gameplay)

I'm going to start posting change lists, with an explanation of the changes. This way, if we need to roll back to a previous setting, we can. The first post in this thread will always have the current version of the sliders.

Two things were addressed with these changes. The first priority was the running game. The CPU blocks much better, which allows it to have a more realistic running game. The human tackling ability was left the same so DBs can still make tackles. Fumbles were bumped up for both sides. In any weather conditions, the fumbles go through the roof. They really need to add weather affect sliders.

People had indicated they felt their QB's completion percentages were too high. After multiple tests with lower QB Accuracy settings, it wasn't possible to keep the CPU's INTs low, even with CPU INT at 0. Instead, the blocking was lowered, the pass rush was increased, and WR catching was slightly lowered. The extra pressure on the QB appears to make them less accurate, couple that with lower WR catching, and QB's completion percentages should take a slight hit.

Here are the changes:

Human Slider Settings Changes
PASSING
Pass Blocking: 5 from 7
WR Catching: 25 from 30

RUSHING
Fumbles: 50 from 35 (to address weather conditions)

PASS DEFENSE
Pass Rushing: 70 from 65

CPU Slider Settings Changes
PASSING
Pass Blocking: 5 from 7

RUSHING
Broken Tackles: 50 from 30
Run Blocking: 70 from 20
Fumbles: 60 from 50

PASS DEFENSE
Interceptions: 5 from 25
Pass Rushing: 75 from 70

RUSH DEFENSE
Tackling: 70 from 65

yea i alos realized 22 was waay low lol. with a 3 man rush from the cpu and a wideout open running 5 yards past the line of scrimmage on a crossing route my qb couldnt throw it anywhere near. ive been playing at 28 QBA but definitly will try your new reduced pass block bc i think thats a much better approach. ill let you no what happens later

Doing more tests, it's clear that the QB's accuracy greatly impacts the number of INTs. For example, I pumped it up to 90, and he's still making bad throws, but 0 INTs. I think the only way to keep INTs low is to keep the QB's accuracy high while lowering the WR's hands.

btw - I'm playing in Very Slow mode, and the game plays pretty much the same, but looks far better.

Founds some stats that should help us have a goal for obtaining realistic game stats.

TurnOvers
The average number of turnovers forced the past 4 seasons in the NFL is 28. That's roughly 1.75 turnovers (both INTs and Fumbles) per game.

I'm still seeing too many fumbles, and INTs. Even bumped the INT to 0 and Accuracy up to 70 (don't worry, dropped WR's hands to compensate). Still intercepted quite often in close situations.

I found that running was way too easy (on both sides) and passing too hard.

GB's (AI) running backs all played like they were AP or something - bowling over people and bursting through holes.

Myself, I ended up with around 400 yards and 3 TD's with AP.

Passing, though, was insanely hard.

I basically found that if I ran the ball, I could get up field, and if I passed it I'd get rejected.

I'd like to see that balanced out.

Also - what about special teams sliders?

Wow, you are definitely the outlier so far compared to what everyone else has reported. I don't see how you could have put up numbers like that, 400 yards with your HB unless your exploiting a problem with the game. How did you obtain your yardage? Long Runs? Broken tackles? Both? I haven't put up over 120 yards yet, but then I tend to play the Madden Calls way anymore so I'm not tempted to call the low risk / high reward play calls. The game is so fundamentally broken that I don't think you can make it realistic and challenging.

I suggest trying some of the items listed in the first post to make the game more challenging. The goal is to simulate the experience, not murder the CPU, which is just way to easy too do while keeping the game realistic from a game / physics / reality perspective.

Both. In my first 10 carries I had two plays where m team just blocked perfectly and got a 70 yard TD and then a 50 yard TD m next possession. Other than that, just some good runs for 10-15 yards here and there. Most of my yardage on every drive came from running; at least 60-70 yards; because I'd go for a pass and just have my player drop an easy one, or basically everyone was covered like superglue. Although, I did have one huge pass play where I aired it out 40-50 yards, and took control of my WR and just managed to beat the defender to it. That was about it, though - dropped passes left and right, no one open, or the AI had someone on me within a second of snapping it (maybe 4-5 plays where I had a guy for a big play, but before Favre even took 2 steps back so I could throw it, he was being pulled down).

Then for the AI - no matter who ran, they'd bowl through defenders, and their blockers would block my line without a problem. I could send 6-7 guys right down the middle on a run and have all of them just pulled out of the way, or run over. Often took gang tackles of 4-5 guys to bring down their RB. It was insane. I think in the first half the AI only had maybe 2-3 runs that weren't at least 10 yards. After each run when it showed how many yards it was basically always runs x 10 (5 carries 54 yards, 6 carries 62 yards, 7 carries 78 yards).

Re: NFL Simulation Sliders 1.0 from Valdarez (tuned for Slow Gameplay)

Very strange indeed. I'll test out the Vikings. I'm definitely not seeing that in the running game.

Here are the latest set of slider adjustments (front page is already updated)

Human Slider Settings Changes
RUSHING
Fumbles: 65 from 50 (to help offset weather affect)

PASS DEFENSE
Interceptions: 0 from 5 (too bad we can't go lower)

CPU Slider Settings Changes
PASSING
QB Accuracy: 65 from 60
WR Catching: 25 form 40

RUSHING
Fumbles: 75 from 60

PASS DEFENSE
Interceptions: 0 from 5

Funny happenstance. I'm sitting here typing. Music went off, and I switch between settings on Madden (have a 7.1 surround sound) and all you hear is the bass. My dog jumps up barking at the sound! Scared me to death. lol

Re: NFL Simulation Sliders 1.0 from Valdarez (tuned for Slow Gameplay)

This is the recap of the 2nd game in my Franchise (2nd season) between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers. I picked up Santanna Moss as a backup WR as my 2 young WR's develop. Have him in the slot, and the guy is a beast. 9 catches this game.

I tried to get the running game going, but for some reason they were all over Barber. This is a bit of an anomaly thus far based on my testing. Hopefully he'll get going next game.

Re: NFL Simulation Sliders 1.0 from Valdarez (tuned for Slow Gameplay)

idk how you managed to get 400 yards lol. ive been 150 tops but its rare to get 100+ for me at least. and about stopping the run its different game to game. i played the cowboys and marion barber lit me up for 160. i just played the skins and i held portis to 44 yards on 20 carries. try and follow the rules posted on page 1 and see if it gets any better.

valdarez im having a blast with your sliders. lost 19-13 to the steelers just lost again 27-24 in OT vs the skins an im at 9-4 on the season so far. great work
