Madden NFL Football Sliders>Steeler99's Franchise Sliders

yes, both of those are good choices, i'd prolly say out route is best but if the db isn't playing press on a curl it works well too (or if he is playing press but the curl is a deep one) [Reply]

I had a lot of rushed passes and "passes before the QB hits the ground" though from even pressure from my DEs and DTs. Ints are coming mostly from CPU corners, though I have had a tipped ball INT from LBs as well as a coverage INT from a LB. I normally let the CPU control the CBs, unless they go long in which I try to do it. I blocked a couple long passes, intercepted one, but also got burnt by 2.

Now that you mention it, I think most of my sacks come when I only rush 3-4 lineman as well. For lack of a better term I'd say the majority of my sacks are essentially "coverage sacks". Maybe that's the trick in M10 ... don't focus so much on "sending the house" to get to the QB, just send your base lineman (+1 LB if running a 3-4), and focus more on covering receivers.

The best sacks I have had haven't necessarily been because I got to the Qb quickly, but more because the cpu Qb had to hang onto the ball longer ... [Reply]

My first game tonight has the Bills (me) vs Buccaneers. Both teams are rated at 78 so I figured a nice balanced game for testing.

Bill,
To answer your question about DB reactions, I'm finding that the DB's react very shortly after the hum WR cuts. This has been providing VERY tight coverage by the cpu DB's, yet still allows enough separation for realistic completions.

As I mentioned earlier I'm finding the best means of getting sacks isn't necessarily more pressure to the QB, but focusing more on blanket coverage. My first sack in this game had everyone very well covered and as the cpu QB started to exit the pocket looking for a receiver to come open, my cpu-controlled DE got him ... which also caused a fumble with me recovering!

Consequently on my next series (in an attempt to check an "out route" for Bill), I incorrectly read coverage and when I threw into what I thought was man coverage I hit the cpu DB right in his zone ... no longer my ball! ha

Well I'm heading into the half up 14-0 after a beautiful touch pass to T.O. for my second score. Overall this game has played exactly as I would suspect with the Buc's rookie Qb struggling, and their run game being inadequate without a passing attack. My run game was very strong against the Buc's weak D-line so I somewhat controlled the half. I'm short on time so rather than play out this whole game I will now play a half against a stronger team and see how it compares. [Reply]

Game two has me (Bills) up against the Titans. This “should” provide a much stiffer challenge than my game against the Bucs?

Ball goes to the Titans first and Oh Boy, what a difference an opponent makes! Titan’s run game is especially strong and Johnson carves up my defense for 54 yards … fortunately a key stop on 2nd down puts them in a 3rd and long so they have to throw. They complete the pass but short of a first so they settle for a FG.

Now for my first drive against the tough Titans defense. MUCH different compared with how I controlled the weaker Buc’s defense. After a two yard run on first down, I make a short completion, but then miss on a slant route … three and out, Titans ball.

Well once again Johnson was a one-man wrecking crew! He carved my defense up again with a mix of runs and shorts passes/screens. The Titan’s offense had me and the Bill’s defense completely off balance. Fortunately Johnson got tired and went out for a short breather … unfortunately White came in and powered his way across the goalline on a short pass to the flats. Titans lead 10-0

For my next drive I won’t force the run. Instead I will attempt to use a short passing game to hopefully open up the run and get on the scoreboard. My drive starts at the 25. Well it almost worked … after three completions got me all the way down to the Titan’s 39 yd line, I missed on my next pass, then had a 2 yd run. My 3rd down pass was batted down so once again I had to punt. Fortunately it was a good one and I have them pinned at their own 5 yd line! Let’s see if I can stop their run this time and force a three and out?

Well my CB blitz on first down failed to reach the QB and they got it all the way out to the 40 yd line before I finally stopped them. After their punt it’s once again my ball starting on my own 25 yd line, with 2:43 left in the half

Nothing doing! Once again they stuffed my offense and before I knew it I was playing defense again? To close out the half the Titan drove down to my 32 yd line, but with only 10 seconds on the clock they decided to try a FG. 49 yd FG was good, Titans take a 13-0 lead into the half.

This game has played freakishly realistic so far with the Titans being a very good run team with a strong defense. Felt completely different compared with my earlier game against the Bucs (a good thing imo). As a matter of fact, in this game the Titans are making ME feel like the Bucs!

A few more test games tomorrow against varying opponents, and I think I'm close to calling this set final? [Reply]

hey Steeler: I like the numbers on your slider set. I have worked on many variations of sliders and yours come out pretty close to what I have now. I was having problems with the CPU AI's passing, either it's too potent or too weak :-) I will try yours for a base set or just go with them. Now, on to the big question........
My goal is to try something I can't find on the boards here-was wondering if you or someone else would take a shot at sliders for the broadcast cam?(not playing as coach though) I'd like to trade ideas on getting sliders dialed in for that view-Yea, I'm one of the few that would rather play with b/c then the other cams. I'm old school and always played Madden or any football game that would offer that cam.
The game seems more open on b/c, even though the WR's are not always viewable using b/c-That's where the problem lies in b/c, so sliders could be a real challenge there. Thanks for any input you or others might have.

Add on: I must have missed where you put down how many minute quarters and how much acc. clock runoff are you set at? I don't see it here. [Reply]

I played the first game of my bills chise against NE last night about 3 times. Loved the flow, loved the feel and challenge. However, in each time I played, my receivers didn't have less than 14 combined dropped passes. I upped WR catching a bit, and it helped a lot. I was also getting gashed on the ground by the cpu running game, for really no reason. I upped my block shedding a bit, and now I think I have a perfect combo between stopping the run and giving up yards. [Reply]

I haven't played broadcast cam since the Tecmo Bowl days, but slider sets should work equally well regardless of your choice of camera view?

As far as game time goes, it's really a personal preference based on your style of play-calling, etc. Basically whatever gives you a total of roughly 120 plays per game should provide the most accurate stats. Myself, I use 12 min quarters with 15 second accelerated runoff, but many other do a full 15 min quarter with 25 second run off. Really no right or wrong here, just use whatever gives you the correct number of plays.

Typical NFL game averages roughly 120-130 plays total (including kicks, etc). [Reply]

One thing to keep in mind when testing sliders ... stay away from RIVALRY games! That's the reason I didn't use the Bills vs Patriots game for testing ... rivalry games always provide an extra challenge, which doesn't represent a good average for slider testing.

I find the Bills to be an ideal team to test sliders with because overall they have a pretty average team in M10. Solid offense with no "stud" players at the QB, RB, and WR positions. Solid defense, but again no real "stud" players other than maybe Stroud for the Bills.

I do see some games with a higher number of drops, but hey, that's real football, especially if there is weather involved. In my two test games last night I had very few drops using the Bills. As a matter of fact I was extremely surprised at how accurate I was with Edwards at QB!

Now for the run game, I really like the cpu being able to provide a strong running game. Typically in Madden it's WAY too easy to stuff the run, so I'm ecstatic that the cpu can finally run the ball! In my game against the Titans last night Johnson carved my defense up and had me on my heels the whole game ... now that was fun knowing it would be a challenge to stop them! If I was to make any adjustment to my cpu run sliders it would be to drop their "brk tkl" slightly as I "sometimes" see too many broken tackles. That said I'm really enjoying the challenge their run game is providing right now.

By all means make whatever adjustments you need to "personalize" this set. We all have different skill levels so each of us typically require slightly different sliders to best fit our game preferences. If my set can be used as a base for you and others to make their own perfect set ... excellent! [Reply]

Next up is a test game versus the Saints. Let’s see if Drew Brees and his offense is tough to stop with these sliders … it’s a rain game so maybe that will bog down both offenses?

Go figure, the Saints open up with two runs netting 7 yds, but then it was “Drew” time! He used a nice mix of short to medium passes to march down to my 11 yd line. On 3rd down I was able to stop his WR short of a 1st down so I hold to a FG. Saints up 3-0 … and I can tell it’s going to be a long day dealing with the Saints pass game.

Saints don’t have that great of a defense so I suspect I should have some luck moving the ball … maybe this will be my first high scoring shoot-out?

One real nice pass play against their zone defense, but then a loss of two on an outside run puts me in a 2nd and long. Saints LB’s blitz me two plays in a row to force quick passes which miss the WR’s. Add insult to injury because Edwards has gone down with an injury. Time for me to punt and I will be playing with a back-up QB next drive (Fitzpatrick). His accuracy ratings are between 54-79 so this could get ugly!

I stop the Saints after five plays and it’s my ball again. To my surprise I’m really struggling with my run game against the Saints defense, although a closer look shows they do have some strong players on their D-line. CPU blitz mania comes into play on my next drive so Fitzpatrick doesn’t have enough time to complete anything other than short passes. Only way to correct this blitz mania is coach sliders, but I wonder if raising the Hum “pass blk” would help some???

My punt buries them down at their own 2 yd line, but they immediately connect on a 10 yd pass. I get them in a 2nd and 1, and in Saints fashion they still try to pass. On 3rd and 1 my SS blitz hits the mark causing a horrible pass by Brees … INT by my LB gives me my first real scoring opportunity! (very realistic int play by the way).

I’m thinking I will control the clock and use the run to get on the board, but no … the Saints D is tough again? So tough I find myself checking my sliders to ensure they are still set right. They are set right so it’s just a case of the saints D having a good game (I love the variety you see with these sliders)!!! I attempt a 46 yd FG into a 4 mph rainy wind and as this game has been going, no good, still down 0-3. Brees gets hot and I go into the half down 0-17 … Fitzpatrick just can’t get anything going and it seems the Saints know that so their loading the box to stuff my run.

Fitzpatrick finally get its going in the first drive of the 2nd half, but Brees is just too strong today and I end up losing 38-14. I'm very comfortable with the QB ACC set at 12 now, it really shows teh difference between starters and back-ups while allowing for a very realistic pass game.

If I were to make any adjustments based off this game it would be to decrease the cpu PASS RUSH, PASS REACTION, and PASS BLK … while increasing the human PASS REACTION or PASS RUSH … but for now I will leave everything as is. The Saints are just a very strong offense! [Reply]

I plan to play two more test games, and if the games reflect accurate gameplay based on team/player ratings, etc, I'm going to use this set to start my first real franchise. One game will be against a lesser opponent (either the Browns or Chiefs), and the other game will be against another offensive power (Colts).

I won't bother giving full game recaps of these but instead give you a brief update on how they play and whether I plan to make any more changes. To this point I am very happy the way these sliders play overall. Every game feels different, and player/team ratings really seem to matter!

As always give me any feedback you have from your games so we have broader test results. [Reply]
