As for fumbles, well crap that's what I've been doing wrong. That pisses me off.
Are you having these runs or the opponents? If it's the opponents, I'm okay with that. I know it's not totally realistic, but it's also not realistic to be able to stop the run without (to some degree) selling out on defense and making yourself vulnerable to the pass. Guys do break long runs on me (1-2 20+ runs a game), but I'm playing with the Chiefs (who suck). So I'm going to concentrate on DL/LB in the upcoming draft to improve my talent level, and I'm going to pay particular attention to tackling ability.
The CPU almost never runs enough, and they will abandon the run much sooner than they should. Making them better when they run is a compensation to keep the games competitive.
On a related note, I wonder if adjusting team tendencies has any significant effect on the pass/run mix.

Ya I've noticed that the CPU gives Up on the run too quickly. Yet every team I play the other teams rb torches me for 100+ yards and has 7+ ypc. The last game a 82 ovr rb rushed for 160 against me, and I've got good lb's and safeties.
I realize you really have to sell out to stop the run. That's why I rarely use nickel and dime formations, even when the CPU has 3 or 4 wr sets. Most of the big rushing gains occur when I'm in a 3-4 or 4-6 and largely due to my safeties taking awful angles.

That's interesting, because I think I generally have more luck stopping outside runs when I'm using the 3-4 (and I occasionally use the Wide Blitz, too). I don't think the safeties taking bad angles is a slider setting, unless Rush Reaction Time also has an Awareness modifier built in. I wonder if safeties with high Awareness take better angles?
My run defense is modestly more effective--I'm usually giving up 4.5-5.5 yards a rush to the lead back, but I'm also hoping that after the draft, when I upgrade my defense (significantly, I hope), it will get better.

So for these, we aren't supposed to use turbo at all?

Well, you can use it, but there's no way to compensate for it in the sliders. So you'll get to the edge sooner than you would normally, and that's going to break some big plays.
I put that note in there for guys who abuse turbo by using it every single second they're controlling a player. You know, the guys who kite in here and say "I'm ahead 31-3 at half. These sliders suck!" LOL.

LOL
Excuse me for asking so many questions but at what times do you and do you not use the turbo button?

I never use it. :-) But that's because I want the full effect of the ratings, and I really want the game to be hard. It would be an interesting experiment for you to play one game using turbo all the time, then one without. I think there would be a huge difference in how the games play out.
And no worries about asking questions. Ask away.

Maybe it depends on your rb cuz I use turbo and I don't break long runs cuz of turbo. Most Of my long runs come from breaking a gang tackle. But then again my rb has 87 spd and 99 truck.
I'm considering tweaking rush reaction time for both me and the CPU. I just feel like the CPU takes too many bad angles. It would be one thing if this was college football but it isn't.

Yeah, it just feels weird to me not using turbo at all because I have been playing madden my whole life and have always used turbo. When I first tried these out, my running game was unstoppable which is probably because I was using turbo. I am probably going to try it out just for the heck of it anyway.

Let me know how that works out. I understand what you're saying about pursuit angles, but I don't know if reaction time affects pursuits angles--I think it may just affect the delay in responding to what direction a play is going.
