Re: Week 13 Discussion

I played my game against the Browns(needed the win), and I will play my game against the Lions(to play the backups and assure no injuries to key players.)

I played mine. I have offline franchises as well though, so playing the CPU doesn't bother me too much, whereas some people seem to have no interest in playing the CPU.

While I am playing to have fun, I also want to win. So I don't want to end up taking a loss in a simmed game. If I'm gonna lose, I'd rather it be due to my own stupidity lol

Re: Week 13 Discussion

I played my game against the CPU. I'm not going to take the chance of losing a game by SIM when there is a good chance I would win if I played the CPU.

Yeah, I'm not going to be able to play tonight. Something has come up. And Saturday isn't going to work either. Will going to have to shoot for Sunday or Monday.

Hopefully that patch comes out soon that addresses the flats pursuit then , because I hate being handcuffed from play calling choices in a game..
I wasnt as much angry with you as much as I was the game and the limitations within Madden. I agree 110% that it sucks we have to try and handcuff ourselves in an attempt to play simulation style football, I find myself trying to avoid drags because some consider it cheap yet Ive played guys who are VERY blitz heavy so what am I to do? Im terrible at screens so thats not really an option and if I call plays that require time in the pocket then I run the constant risk of being hammered on the blitz but if I do what any normal coach would do and call quick passing plays then I feel like someone is going to complain that Im not playing "sim" enough so at that point I dont know what to do in all honesty.

I dont know if this is a dig at me since I lead the league in receiving with a TE but maybe you should elaborate on how throwing to a TE is somehow equal to throwing in the flats because making blanket statements without backing it up at all is completely ridiculous. Maybe you werent directing it at me, but I find it a little insulting trying to compare the two considering we all know exactly why the flats are an issue.

I agree to an extent, hell maybe its my **** defense, but that game with UNC_Pete was above and beyond ridiculous. I knew time and time again he was calling pitches and sweeps and I called plays where I blitzed the corners, blitzes where my 2 OLB's blitzed around the edges, I audibled to have my defensive line spread out at the snap and yet nothing worked. The only time I got any type of defense against it was when I blitzed off the edges, spread my LB's out pre-play and had my line spread on the rush and then I was able to stop them but at that point all you have to do is audible to a run up the gut and Im toast anyways. I tried man blitzes as well as zone blitzes and niether of those worked without having to spread everyone out pre-play, which again opened me up to an audible at the line. Like I said, maybe it was my terrible defense, but either way it was frustrating as all hell.

It's not a dig at anyone, it's just how I feel. I've played against my friends before this league even started and they aren't exactly sim, and I learned quickly that TEs/RBs/Slot receivers are the most difficult positions to cover in this game.

If you have a speedy TE(85 or faster), it's very difficult to cover them. LBs are usually too slow or have too bad of pass coverage ratings. Unless you manually move the DBs before every snap, they're often out of position to properly cover the TE. And zone coverages are hit or miss as the deep slant/deep corner routes for TEs are left without a guy covering for many zone coverages.

Just take my game against you for example, I subbed in Cook in the fourth quarter(he was usually on my bench) and he was basically uncovered everytime I threw the ball because he's got an 85 for speed...ended up with 4 catches and 65 yards in less than a quarter of play.

As I said, I don't see a big problem with it. I was ticked at myself after our game for being so horrible on the stick that I couldn't manually cover him, and for not thinking of using an extra CB so I had a player with the speed to keep up with him. That's my fault. But at the same time, I don't think we should be complaining about other plays and such. Sweeps, Power O, Wildcat, Drags, WR Screens, HB Screens, slot receive slants, TE crossing patterns, etc are all plays that work many more times than not, but they're all defendable as well. We can only restrict our playcalling so much.

Only thing I don't think is defendable is that damn Pats offense

Re: Week 13 Discussion

Duly noted TimmeH, I disagree with some of it but thats to be expected. My problem is a guy in the slot is tough to stop if he has talent just like the NFL, a speedy TE is tough to stop just like the real NFL but covering guys in the flats is impossible if you arent controlling the guy since the pursuit angles are completely screwed up so thats why I wouldnt put those problems in the same area as the flats issue. I do agree though that there is only so much you can do to limit yourself before youre no longer playing a strategic game and instead are just going through the motions, its a tough balancing issue that for me has been a real test in patience. Im at the point where we really should just get back to letting anyone do what they want, within reason of course, and then maybe we can just run our offense as we see fit and not worry about whether or not the other player thinks we are playing "sim" enough for their tastes.
