Example of our system: Salary Cap System- Courtesy of Brandon OK I gues I am supposed to tel you guys about the system I have put in place for my Online franchise so here it goes.
I will stat with the cap system, This system is a point based system and here are the point values:
95+ OVR= 10 points
90-94 OVR= 9 points
84-89 OVR= 8 points
78-83 OVR= 7 points
70-77 OVR=6 points
59-69 OVR= 4 points
45-58 OVR= 2 points
1-44 OVR= 1 point
OK now that that is out of the way I can tell you how it works, Each player has a point value as shown above. for each teams cap points you add up every players points for example my Colts are 298. Once you get each teams cap points then you need to come up with the number you think is best for the league cap, my leagues is 315. So this means in my Online franchise the Pats,Giants and one or two other teams are over the cap, therefor they will have to cut some players to get under the cap before the start of the regular season.
This cap will not remain the same throughout the league, just as the actual NFL cap does it will go up by a certain percentage every season right after the Pro bowl. I have settled on 8% per season which I feel is just right for our league and our leagues cap. So the first season it will be 315 as mentioned above but once the Probowl is over and we are into the offseason it will go up 25 points to 340 and the next season 367 and so on.
Now for the free agency system, Me and my "associate" have decided a bidding system was best, but we wanted to make it as much like the real NFL free agency period as we could. So we decided that you could bid as low as 1 point for any player which means you could occasionally get a steal at 2 or 3 points for a 4 or 6 point player.
You could also end up using a lot more for a great player. You could end up paying all of your remaining cap points for one big name player like Andre Johnson or Albert Haynesworth and instead of him only counting as what he is worth(10) you could end up paying 20-40 or even more for him when you get him from free agency. Here is an example of it all on action:
My pre-free agent cap number is 298, once free agency hits the number I can’t go above will be 340. I will give you a few different combos of players I could release:
I could release Brock(DL-85), Gonzalez(WR-75) and Santi(TE-72) or I could release Addai(RB-85), Ugoh(OL-76) and Jackson(CB-82) or just release Mathis(DL-92). These are of course only 3 of the different combos you could have I could also release Brock and Addai. Let’s say I end up releasing Brock, Gonzo and Santi, I would have 62 cap points left to use once the cap number goes up 8%.
Now free agency has started and I want to bid on Ronde Barber so I put in my first bid which would be 1, but obviously someone else is going to want him…he is a good CB. So they bid 2 for him and say I really want him so I put my bid up to 10 points, 2 more than what he would be worth normally and I get him. He will then count as 10 points on my point cap even though he is really only worth the 8 points. So my cap space would go down to 52.
I then decide I should plug the whole that Brock left so I look for a good backup for my DLineman. I find Will smith has been released from the Saints so I put in a bid of 1 for him. The Bears decided they need another DE to start over Alex Brown, So they bid 5 for him, which is still less than he is worth. So I decide I will go for 10 again, the Bears really want him so they bid 12. I figure I can go up to 13 for him, so I bid 13. Then the Bears bid 15, well that is too much for a backup DE for me so I decide to take care ofr that position in the draft.
I then see that Bryant Mckinnie formerly of the Vikings is available, so I put in a bid of 8 points. There are a few teams interested so the Lions bid 15 for him and I figure I can spend that much so I bid 18 and then a couple of the other teams backs off. Now it is just me, the Lions and the Bills. The Bills put in a bid of 20 for him, the Lions bid 25. I decide I will bid one final time so I bid 30 and everyone else backs off and I get him. So now I am stuck with a player that is worth 9 points but will be getting “paid” 30 so that really hurts me I am now down to 22 remaining cap points. I then decided it would be best for me to save the rest of the points for the draft.

Question about this. At what point are we eligible to be penalized for being over the cap.
Say for example there are a few FA's I want to bid on that if signed would result in me releasing a player to make room?
So say I put in 6 bids tonight (just an example) and all of these end up not getting signed by anyone else so they become mine. There is a good chance that it would result in me being over 330 because I obviously result in releasing some players.

You could always rescind a bid if you needed to. We won't have any penalties until the season starts.

Everybody keep in mind that RB L. Stephens-Howling & LB V. Hobson was signed by the Cardinals prior to this and K D. Buehler was signed by Dallas prior also.
