Hockey (Other)>I went to see the fights, and a hockey game broke out.

What is it with the hockey and fights? Yes they happen in all sports, but it seems even more so in hockey, so it's not just adrenaline here.
In video games, Madden, NBA Live, NBA2k, no fights, but the NHL games make a point of it. Why?

Because (this is such a cliche) it's part of the game. Hockey is different from other sports because they are allowed to fight. It's not really frowned upon either but at the same time it isn't widely accepted especially after what happened last year in a junior game where a guy (his name was Don Sanderson) was fighting, took his helmet off and ended up slamming the back of his head onto the ice, killing him.

It'll stop as soon as a star Center breaks his shooting hand. And you're not really "allowed" to fight because the participants do receive major penalties.

No, it probably won't stop. Fighting has been a part of Hockey ever since the game was invented, basically. I mean, the talks of removing fighting have been getting louder and louder these last few years but I don't see it happening. I only see them adding certain rules to fighting like you have to keep your helmet on, things like that.
And yes, you do get penalized for fighting but it is essentially allowed because you would have referees breaking every fight up before it started instead of letting guys go at it. And if fighting wasn't allowed, you would have anyone that is involved in a fight get suspended like all of the other leagues do.

They tried to reduce or eliminate fighting in the early 90's. The result was stick infractions went up. When given the choice of a 40 second punch in the face contest or stick swinging, fighting always wins out.

Its weird how if you pound someones face in during a game its somehow ok, but if you do it on the street you are a violent criminal. The abundance of fights is probably what I dislike most about hockey.

A player in a hockey game accepts conduct a person on the street does not. A slash, high stick, spear, etc would also label you a violent criminal on the street. Oh, by the way, on the street, a tackle (as in football) and a take-out slide (as in baseball) would also make you a violent criminal. Do you propose we eliminate all physical contact from all sports? If watching the NHL offends you, just put something else on tv.

I didnt say it offends me, I just said its my least favorite thing about hockey, and I dont believe any of the things you just mentioned is anything like just blatantly smashing away at someones face with your bare fist.
I understand that fights happen in all sports, I just dont care for how its glorified in hockey, but its not a big enough of a deal to turn me away from the sport.

The difference is that in a Hockey fight, both guys are willing to fight each other.

Yeah I mean football is the most violent sport out there (for the players; soccer is the most violent for the fans :-)). The players must have it in the contract that if someone tackles you, they can't be sued or arrested for battery.
I like hockey in spite of the fighting, but needless to say in the video game, I turn fighting off. A needless distraction and the momentum it might give a team in real life loses its attraction while playing a video game.
