I would think that it would depend on the teams on each side and their position in the standings and outlook for the year. I'm out of town so can't check Madden's rating, but a top 6 D-man and a vet come in handy at the end of the year. PM the CPU team and each team's place in the standings as of this advance. I won't be online until Sunday but can be active on here.

Sure, but handy doesn't equal a first round pick.

So,

The 79 rated d-man is Ed Jovanovski (36).
John Madden has 75 overall (39).

No way that you will get a 1st round pick (except in NHL 13, lol) for these players.
Florida would also clear 4.7 million in cap space.

I wouldnt approve this trade.
