Pens Acquire Rozsival

Rozsival returns for a second stint with the Penguins

Michael Rozsival is a Penguin once more.

The 34-year old Czechoslovakian defenseman was acquired in a trade at 2:58 PM from the Anaheim Ducks. Rozsival had previously played four seasons for the Penguins, amassing 65 points in 235 games.

In return for Rozsival, the Penguins shipped out 34-year old winger Matt Cooke. Cooke had played for the Penguins for the previous four seasons. So far in the 2012-13 NHL season, Cooke has played 32 games for the Penguins, scoring five goals and tallying five assists for a total of ten points.

Re: Elvis has Just Left the Building || Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 12

Well, NHL 12 keeps freezing when I get to 10:00 of the third period. It' getting really frustrating. I'm going to have to simulate until the end of the season and just do the playoffs and hope to god it works then.

Re: Elvis has Just Left the Building || Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 12

The resurgence of Evgeni Malkin is truly something to be noted.

After having poor 2009-10 and 2010-11 campaigns, in which Malkin scored 49 and 22 points in 67 and 43 games, respectively, the 26-year old phenom has won back-to-back Art Ross trophies in the past two seasons by scoring 98 and 117 points.

But this season, "Geno," as he is called by fans and his peers, has captured something that has eluded him in his first six NHL seasons - the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy.

"Oh, it feel great," said Malkin in a thick Russian accent. "I mean, I never score 50 before this year and now I score 60. It feel great."

And great he was for the Penguins, tallying a league-leading 60 goals in 82 games, something nobody has done since the 2007-08 season when fellow Russian Alexander Ovechkin scored 65 goals en route to inning his first of two consecutive goal scoring titles.

"I'm excited for him," Sidney Crosby said. "I'm excited to see what he can do in the playoffs, too."

-------------------------------------------------

The success of the Penguins, i.e., their NHL-leading 52-28-2 record, has come despite the humiliating goaltending. After a strong 2011-12 season in which goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury posted a 48-18 record in 70 games with a .926 save percentage and a 2.09 goals against average, the 28-year old netminder hit a snag in his career, having just a .909 save percentage, the worst he has had since his .905 figure in 2009-10.

"I don't know," uttered goaltending coach Giles Meloche. "It looks like he's doing everything right, but pucks are just getting behind him."

Despite the sub-par numbers Fleury posted in the goals against and save percentage columns, his five shutouts put him in a tie for fourth place in the NHL in most shutouts.

Perhaps things weren't that bad for the goalie now just exiting his seventh full season in the show. He became the first Penguins goaltender to score a goal in a regular season game and the 11th goalie in the NHL to do so.
