The Isles sign the Toolman!

The Islanders have signed Tim "The Toolman" Taylor. No not that one, the center iceman. The Islanders signed Tim Taylor to a 1 year deal. They have been, just plain and simply terrible on face-offs this year. Tim Taylor is a savy vet who can win lots of face-off battles. Its being reported that F.Nielsen, the teams current 4th line center, will be a healthy scratch. Taylor is patrol center on the teams 3rd line as Josef Vasicek will be moved down to the 4th line.

Isn't Tim Taylor retired?

And plus, Sidney Crosby, Vincent Lecvalier and Jonathan Toews were perfect captains. Why would they be named "C" without having any reason.

I dunno, I just think your captain should have many seasons in the NHL under his belt. I'm not saying they're not great players, but I still think they are a bit young. But hey, sometime it works (Toews and Crosby, but those teams are really loaded) and sometimes it doesn't (Lecavalier, the Lightning are way underperforming IMO). And look at San Jose, Marleau is captain, but he isn't that well liked as one (from what I've heard) and can't get the team going. Same with Thornton when he was in Boston.

As for your Islanders, how do you feel about your defense?

Re: New York Islanders (NHL 09)

its a little shakey.. Give up too many opportunities and have problems blocking the shooting lanes and passing out of the zone.

Re: New York Islanders (NHL 09)

Maybe you should pull a Columbus/Vancouver and get as many big defensive defensemen (huge cannons optional) as possible, just to blocks shots, hit people and clog passing lanes.
If you do this, DiPierto will face less shots, and will probably do better and the penalty kill will be better.

Looking good. But I must say - Thank you for losing to Buffalo.

Re: New York Islanders (NHL 09)

NY Islanders vs Florida Panthers (10/18/08):
On a break-away off an Islander turnover, Stephan Weiss puts it past Rick DiPietro. "When I got the puck, I knew there wasnt anyone that was gonna catch up to me. By the time I had gotten within 5 feet on Rick, I seen him open is legs and that just where I put it." - says Stephan Weiss. Rostislav Olesz would add an empty net goal to ice the game.

Florida Panthers beat the NY Islanders 2-0

Coach Ken Plotzke had this to say. "I didnt think this would be a defensive battle. I for sure thought this would be a shoot-out type game. We didnt play horrible, we just made one mistakes and thats the one that beat us tonight."

3 Stars of the Game:
1st star: Thomas Vokoun (23 saves)
2nd star: Stephan Weiss (1G)
3rd star: Jay Boumesster (1A)
