Re: New York Islanders (NHL 09)

Washington Capitals vs NY Islanders (12/16/08):
Would the Isles road winning streak continue at home?

Capitals would get the first goal of the game on a puck that was deflected twice, last touched by Ovechkin. "I never seen the puck. It changed directions a couple times on me. I never got a good gauge on where it was going." Eric Fehr would get the Caps second goal on a PP late in the game. Joshua Bailey would get the Isles back within one, but it would be too late.

Caps over Isles 2-1

3 stars of the game:
1st star: Kyle Quincey (1A)
2nd star: Shaone Morrisonn (2A)

Re: New York Islanders (NHL 09)

NY Islanders vs Minnesota Wild (12/19/08):
Gaborik back in Minnesota for 1st time since trade!!!

Marian Gaborik his back in Minnesota for the very 1st time since his trade to the New York Islanders. How did he get treated? Well, lets just say that the Wild fans wernt too happy to see him. "It felt weird being here in Minnesota and in the visiting teams locker room. I knew the fans were going to be un-rulely. I burned some bridges being here in asking for a trade. But thats the game. Fans love you when your playing for them and once your on another team, they love to hate you." - Marian Gaborik on his return to Minnesota. How would he do?

Marian didnt waste any time getting the Isles on the board, as he puts one past young goaltender Nolan Schaefer. "Ive practiced against this kid for a little while since he came here. I know the weaknesses of his." Gaborik wasnt done for the night. He gets his 2nd of the game off a rebound of Kyle Okposo's shot.

Then late in the 1st, Eric Boogaard take a cheap shot on Islander defensemen Brett Lebda. After Lebda's shot from the point, Boogaard takes a run at Brett and takes him out with a high hit. No penalty was called on the play.

The Islanders get a lucky break as the refs rule no goal on what looked to be a good goal by the Wild. "From what I heard,It sounded good. But who am I too say, I didnt see anything!"- Joey Macdonald on the shoot heard round the arena.

Marian Gaborik adds his third goal for the hat-trick. Best thing about this hat-trick, is it was one for the history books. Very few players have accomplished getting a hat-trick in one period, but the former Wild forward burns his former team for 3 goal in the first period alone. He was just on fire! It was like he wanted or needed to prove something to them and us. If he plays like this for the rest of the season, we're gonna be looking good for the playoffs." - Isles captain Kyle Okposo on Gaborik.

On a PP oportunity in the 2nd period, Marek Zidlicky clanks one off of both goal posts.

Islanders over Wild 5-2

3 stars of the game:
1st star: Marian Gaborik (3G)
2nd star: Jeff Tambellini (2G)
3rd star: Mike Sillinger (2A)

Isles lose key defensemen!!!

The Islanders lost key defensemen, Brett Lebda for 37 days in their win against the Minnesota Wild. Lebda has been a big piece to the Isles team since his arrival. Its been rumored that center Frans Nielsen will help play defense while th eteam looks for another option back there.

Re: New York Islanders (NHL 09)

NY Islanders vs Nashville Predators (12/20/08):
Will the Islanders continue their dominace(5-0) on the road tonight?

In the 1st period, Brenden Witt shoots one from the point and deflects off of Gaborik, "When its going your way, its really going your way. That goal, you have to be in the perfect spot for that kind of deflection." Martin Gelinas would score twice to give the Preds a 2-1 lead.

Late stages of the 3rd period, Mike Sillinger makes an absolutely amazing pass behind his back to the tape of Kyle Okposo's stick for the tying goal with 5:08 left in the game. That wouldnt be the last time we hear from Okposo. In OT, Okposo wins it after he steals the puck from the Preds defender.

Islanders over Predators 3-2(OT)

3 stars of the game:
1st star: Kyle Okposo (2G)
2nd star: Martin Gelinas (2G)
3rd star: Mark Streit (2A)

Re: New York Islanders (NHL 09)

Isles complete sign and trade deal with Boston!!

The Islanders have completed a sign and deal with the Boston Bruins. After the Isles signed (D) Roman Polak to a 2 year deal, they went and traded him along with (RW) Richard Park and (C) Josef Vasicek to Boston in exchange for netminder Tuukka Rask.

It is belived that the Islanders have been in a long and dire search to find a back-up goaltender for some time now. rask will now be the back-up to Rick DiPietro. Joey Macdonald will be sent down to the minors; where, he is still the odd man out. Will Garth Snow look to deal Macdonald for a defensemen in the wake of Brett Lebda's injury? Anyhow, here will be your new offensive line-ups after the trade:

Gaborik - Sillinger - Okposo
Bergenheim - T.Taylor - Hunter
McAmmond - Bailey - Tambellini
Sim - Ben Walter - Linus Omark

Re: New York Islanders (NHL 09)

good job getting rask. I loved how the trade wasn't completely unrealistic, either. He'll do well for you, especially when Dipietro goes well past his prime.
