It could work, but they would seriously need to keep to the time frames they'd have, too. I wouldn't rush the coding, I'd spend the fullest of four years making it absolutely awesome and I would only release a game every four years as well. The problem becomes the funding and profiting, of course. That is the most likely greenlighting factor.

Exactly, the only way a Olympics game MIGHT succeed is if it was on Kinect. How do you make any kind of running, bicycling, or swimming event without button mashing?

Now that being said, there is a huge market for a Olympics game, just look at the TV numbers.

I wouldn't say there's a huge market. Remember, the Olympics are on for maybe a month. At that point, all the development costs are basically a loss. It's the same thing that sunk March Madness.

March Madness= USA
The Olympics= The World

The Olympics are putting up bigger numbers than the NBA Finals and the World Series. I think if a quality Olympics game could be made(that I doubt) then I think it could do very well.

Re: OS Poll: Could there be a truly fun and great Olympic video game?

Some ideas...

- TeamUp ... similar to NBA 2K's crew mode, you could join up with other players to represent your country --- swimming and track relays would be particularly fun to play if you had teammates.
- Online leaderboards - players, world records, etc
- Kinect
- Playable athletes from past to present -- Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, Carl Lewis, Jesse Owens, that dude from the Kardashians, and more.
- Play in every Olympics -- every environment recreated
- Story mode / My Player mode
- Basketball would be fun if it had realistic rosters
- Soccer would be fun

If it were done right, if there was skill involved + fun to play, there's probably an audience for it and it's also a global audience. It'd be a task though 'cause there's so many sports. I mean look at games that only have to focus on one sport (madden, nba2k, etc)

I will say no because it's hard enough for a company to make a game without problems and ommissions when there's only one league to concentrate on that I can't see how they could come up with something really amazing and that covers enough of the big olympics pictures and spirit to make it relevant.

To me, there should be more time invest in making a game with only swimming or running, that you could start your athlete when he enters college, develop him, face competition in the NCAA or in the world, and then have seasons to determine world champions, and every 4 seasons, you have the olympics competition.

I'm sure, seeing all the hype that was created by Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt for the past years that a game like that would have attract people. Again, it's a matter of creating something that is more than just one and done, and people don't buy anyway.

A game catching the Olympics and beeing good, I don't see it, it's asking too much from a dev. team. Just my two cents.

Yes, if 2K Sports made a basketball game and EA Sports made a soccer game.

Yeah exactly. I think the hard part is having so many sports and it'd take a while to make each sport with quality gameplay. What if they did this every 2 or 4 yrs though (released during World Championships and Olympics) ? Could see it being an impulse buy. I could see this being like a Wii game or for the Kinect (like Kinect Adventures) where it's just a fun multiplayer mode but not totally sim like.

Re: OS Poll: Could there be a truly fun and great Olympic video game?

I would certainly welcome one, and I would welcome one WITHOUT the most common sports, basketball, soccer, boxing etc.

For track, eliminate the sprints all together and there goes the button mashing. OR- come up with a system with the joysticks where you rotate each one for a specific stride mechanic. I vote eliminate it.

Gymnastics- would be great
Swimming- Narrow it down to 1, 100m of each event, the 200 IM, and one team event.
Track- All of the field events, maybe the 100, the 400 and the 4x400
Fencing- would be awesome
Judo- sweet
Archery- sweet
Beach Volley, water polo, equis etc

You need to eliminate sports where there are already specific sports for. Or have them co develop those sports into DLC for your game.

I'd love a summer and winter edition combo pack, every four years released simultaneously, for $149.99 and I'd pay it happily
