Which of the major sports had the best 2009 in sports gaming?

At first I was going to vote Basketball... simply because it was the only sport that had two above average games on it's roster. But MLB 09 The Show was so good that I had to go with baseball.

Ask this question globally and you'll get a whole different answer. Soccer had the greatest year as FIFA should have been labeled Sports Game of The Year for the past few years. ProEvo Soccer is not that far behind. Oh, and not to mention all of the Manager games that go gold instantly.

In my opinion, there is just too much difference between games in every other sport. I do believe basketball is a contender as all 3 games are solid; however, look at baseball, The Show is great while MLB 2k9 is absolutely horrendus. And don't even get me started on Front Office Manager. I just don't get how one game (maybe 2 w/ The Bigs) means the genre had the greatest year.

Just my 2-cents...

I'm gonna say basketball by default really. It's the only major sport with two competitive sim oriented console games.

I voted Baseball. The Show is the best sports game i've played since MVP, so that gets my vote.

I agree whole-heartedly.

The Show was spectacular while MLB 2k9 was horrendus; Madden is good but NCAA is worse; NHL 10 is great but 2k10 is pitiful; the basketball games are okay - they just need multiple patches. There's too much discreprency between companies within the sport.

The Show is sports game of the year, hands down, but I agree that basketball had the best year in regards to options.

My awards:

SGOTY: The Show 09 -- Best console baseball game ever

Honorable mention:

FN4 -- Many people hated this game but this game brought about strategy to boxing with a solid career mode

NHL 10 -- The series gets better and better

Madden 10 -- Again, another game that many people have ripped but I found this version of Madden the best in years. Upgraded visuals along with better balanced controls and improved presentation have only restarted the Madden 11 hype machine with a great foundation

FIFA 10 is by far the best sports game to model the sport IMO.

I unfortunately do not own a PS3 so I havn't had the pleasure of playing the show and I can't convince my wife we need a new console for just a single game. So, of all the sporting titles I have played this year I have to say NHL10 is the cream of the crop with Madden and NCAA placing and showing respectively.

So for my money I say Hockey had a nice year in sports gaming.
