Re: Bungle In The Jungle | M2H's Cincinnati Bengals

Bengals Get Into W Column In 42-35 Free-For-All With Fins

A 20 point lead and a potential blowout withered into a 7 point nail-biter, but the Cincinnati Bengals avoided a complete meltdown and escaped their Week 3 battle with the Miami Dolphins with a 42-35 victory, their first of the 2016 season and only their 6th all time versus Miami.

The game’s opening series concluded with El Smiling’s first career touchdown catch on play that covered 23 yards. The Fins’ offense began its day with a three and out on a sack by C.J. Mosley, and a fair catch interference penalty put the Bengals at the Miami 34. The very short field was converted into a 4 yard touchdown run by Michael Dyer. The Dolphins responded by getting on the board with Jamaal Charles scoring from a half yard out after a 9 yard catch by Brent Celek. The drive got a 15 yard boost from a roughing the passer call against Vontaze Burfict. After the Bengals went three and out, Miami tied it at 14 with a 3 yard run by Charles, but a 50 yard Matt Green field goal with 2:57 to go before the break followed by a 42 yard pick-six by Carrington Byndom put the Bengals up by 10. Another Miami three and out preceeded the hurry-up offense generating a 5 yard TD toss from Andy Dalton to A.J. Green that gave Cincy a 31-14 halftime advantage.

A 53 yard kick by Green at the 1:52 mark was the only score of a sluggish third quarter, but the Dolphins found a groove in the fourth. Robert Griffin III’s 4 yard TD pass to Celek with 9:10 to go was followed by Stewart Bradley picking off Dalton and returning it 6 yards to the Cincinnati 20. The Fins converted with a 4th down sneak by Griffin, and suddenly the Bengals were only up by Green’s pair of long field goals. A dangerous three and out by the Bengals followed, but Michael Johnson forced an Aaron Henry fumble on the punt return and Omar Bolden recovered it at the Miami 44. Michael Dyer went to the house on the the next play and Dalton’s 2 point pass to Stephen Hill put Cincinnati up by two touchdowns at 42-28. That sequence of events turned out to be game-saving, because Griffin engineered another scoring drive, connecting with Malcolm Johnson on a 32 yard touchdown with 1:15 to play. Ladarius Green bobbled the onside kickoff and Miami recovered it, but the Dolphins turned the ball over on downs at the Cincy 31, leaving Dalton to end the game with a trio of kneel-downs.

Game Notes
Last December the Bengals spanked the Chargers 30-13, eliminating them from playoff contention and sending Mike Mularkey to the unemployment line. Now they need to beat them to climb to .500 after beginning the season 0-2, and the Bolts would like nothing better than to make them 1-3.

This is the Bengals' first trip to San Diego since 2009.

Re: Bungle In The Jungle | M2H's Cincinnati Bengals

Bengals Blow 21-3 Lead, But Walk Off With 24-21 Win Over Bolts

The Cincinnati Bengals gave up the first three points of the game in the opening series, but scored the first three touchdowns to take a 21-3 lead over the San Diego Chargers with just under 9 minutes to play. A late collapse by the Bengal defense then threatened to send the game into overtime as the Bolts rallied with an 18 point surge. Cincinnati, however, was able to pull out the win with a last-second field goal.

After the Chargers opened the scoring with Nate Kaeding’s 39 yard field goal, the Bengals reached a third and goal at the 3, whereupon Andy Dalton was intercepted in the end zone by linebacker Justin Garrett. Next next time Cincinnati was in that down and distance situation, it got on the board with Dalton’s TD toss to El Smiling with 9:35 remaining in the half. In third and goal for a third time, the Bengals scored on a 1 yard plunge by Michael Dyer, giving them a 14-3 lead just 12 ticks before the break.

Cincinnati reached the red zone again in the first series of the second half, but on 2nd and goal at the 6, Dalton was picked off in the end zone again, this time by middle linebacker Mike Mauti. The game’s next score did not come until only 8:57 was left, with Leonard Weaver crashing in from a half yard out after Tauren Poole was stopped just short on a 16 yard run on the previous play. San Diego responded by finding the end zone for the first time, scoring on a 1 yard run by Ryan Mathews with 5:05 to go. The Bengals followed with a three and out. The Chargers got into scoring position again, but had to settle for a 29 yard Kaeding kick after a sack by Carlos Dunalp and Stansly Maponga on the play before the two minute warning. San Diego kicked away, and three runs consumed all of its time outs but did not move the sticks for the Bengals. After Mike Sadler’s punt, the Chargers were at their 40 with a minute and 40 seconds remaining. On the next play a Keenan Allen catch put the ball at the 5. Isaiah Johnson had Allen well-covered, but Philip Rivers’ throw was perfect. Rivers found Steve Breaston in the end zone on the following snap, then connected with Randall Telfer for the two point conversion that tied the score at 21. Unfortunately for them, the Chargers had struck too quickly, leaving Dalton and his receivers a minute with which to work. Completion followed completion until, as time expired, rookie Matt Green hit the first game-winning field goal of his career from 37 yards away.
