Re: Bungle In The Jungle | M2H's Cincinnati Bengals

Here We Go Again

While Aaron Rodgers went from start to finish in his 17th consecutive start for the Redskins, his former team had to use all three of its quarterbacks. RG3 tore a bicep after starter Julian Austin was put out of action for the duration of the game. Austin is expected to be good to go on Sunday, but Griffin will be out for over a month. Rodgers hasn’t been injury-prone since arriving in Washington, so one now has to wonder if the Pack’s o-line should be taking the blame for all of those DNF’s he had during his last years in Green Bay.

No Comparison

Back on opening day of 2007, Adrian Peterson rushed for 103 yards on 19 carries. Peterson’s successor, Derrick Holmes, made his debut on Sunday and had more attempts than yards- 20 to 19, leaving the Vikings to win over the Falcons on the strength of Christian Ponder’s 4 touchdown passes.

That Bites for Bullitt

Although Minnesota strong safety Terrance Bullitt is regaining feeling in his extremities after leaving the field on a back board in the season opener, team physicians say it’s “99.9%” certain that Bullitt has played his last down of football. With San Francisco’s Aldon Smith suffering a similar fate in 2018, this makes the second time in less than two years that a player has sustained a career-ending injury. Bullitt has played in 88 games, all of them starts, since being the Vikes’ second round pick in 2014. He has 337 career tackles, 3 sacks, 13 picks and 5 forced fumbles.

He’s Got MoJo’s Mojo

Making his first career start as Maurice Jones-Drew’s successor, second-year man Darrian Lawson rushed 23 times for a 179 yards, including touchdowns of 28 and 87, in the Outlaws’ win over the Titans.

Re: Bungle In The Jungle | M2H's Cincinnati Bengals

Marvin Lewis Is Greg Roman's Little Female Dog

Marvin Lewis may be the most successful NFL coach of the past decade, but he’s now 1-4 in the regular season versus Buffalo’s Greg Roman. Whatever Roman is doing right, he might have learned it from Jim Harbaugh. Lewis is 1-2 against Harbaugh, making him a combined 2-6 against Roman and his mentor. In the latest Lewis fail against the Harbaugh Tree, the Bengals led twice before falling behind by 10, then fought back to lead once more, but left the Bills with enough time have the final say by a 31-28 margin.

First blood came at the 3:04 mark of the first quarter, when Andy Dalton connected with De’Jon Ousley for a 28 yard score. Buffalo got on the board with a 35 yard Greg Davis field goal with 10:12 remaining in the half, then took the lead 3:46 before the break when Landry Jones, with Thomas Finnie a step away from a sack, lofted a 49 yard TD pass to rookie Drew Keller, who had beaten Champ Lee. Lee was in the game because 2019 All-Pro Dominique Williams was put out of it earlier in that series with a minor concussion. Williams is expected to be cleared to play against the Browns on Sunday after the post-concussion evaluation process is completed. The lead then changed hands twice more in quyick succession. The Bengals responded with Dalton’s 1 yard TD toss to A.J. Green, then Keller, Mohamed Sanu and George Bryan put Tracy Howard and Keeston Terry in a 3-on-2 situation, with Keller getting behind the Cincinnati defenders to go 28 yards after the catch on an 82 yard touchdown. Down 17-14, the Bengals were looking to tie the score or better before the half, but Dalton was picked off at the Buffalo 5 by Ryne Giddins with 20 seconds to go.

When Marcell Dareus recorded his third sack of the game, it caused Dalton to fumble. It was recovered by Michael Dyer at the Buffalo 19, but then Matt Green hit the right upright on a 36 yard attempt to assure the game of a scoreless third quarter. After the miss, the Bills drove to a 1 yard TD plunge on 3rd and goal by rookie Aundre Wells. Cincinnati countered with a 5 yard run by Dyer, cutting Buffalo’s lead to 24-21 with 8:52 to go. On the play before the two minute warning, a 10 yard completion from Dalton to Ousley gave the Bengals a first and 10 at the Buffalo 11, and a 9 yard pass from Dalton to Green put Cincy in front with 1:13 to play. When the replay booth overturned an apparent 14 yard touchdown pass from Landry Jones to Stevie Johnson, if left the Bills in a first and goal at the 1 with 20 ticks and zero time outs left. A false start pushed Buffalo back 5 yards before the next play could be run. An incomplete Jones pass shaved a little more time off the clock, but then Jones went to Wells with a swing pass for the winning score.
