Football Dynasties>The Coaching Legacy of Alonso Torres (M10)
RayAllen20 05:30 PM 10-24-2009

Jauron Out, Torres in

To the delight of many faithful Bills fans out there, Dick Jauron has packed his bags and left. Ralph Wilson fired Jauron suprisingly before the start of the regular season, after an abysmal preseason. While this is a rare time for such a change to occur, the people of Buffalo aren't complaining. Jauron has never lead the Bills to the playoffs, even after last year's start of 4-0.

Now that Jauron is out, who is this new guy Torres? Well, Alonso Torres reigns from Barcelona, Spain. He has no experience in the NFL, yet is claimed to have the greatest offensive mind in the history of football. He is said to have had a passion for the NFL since he was a young boy, even though it wasn't very popular in Spain. When he moved to the United States, his fond of football grew even more. He took a high school football job in Southern California and excelled. After a couple state championships, he took a job as Quarterbacks Coach at Arizona State. Before he knew it, he was their offensive coordinator.

This is where NFL teams started noticing Torres' explosive offenses. Arizona State lead the NCAA in offensive scoring with 45.7 ppg. After his first season as the Sun Devil's OC, he was offered Offensive Coordinator for the Jaguars, Browns, and the Bills. He politely declined, yet once the Bills offered him the Head Coaching job he accepted.

He hopes to install some fire power offensively for the Bills. Only time will tell for Buffalo if this was a smart move.

Ground Rules

I will control all 32 teams in dynasty mode, but will let the other teams other than the Bills, play their games, scout, draft, release, sign, and handle their roster. I will trade for teams though, but I promise to be fair.

With me controlling all 32 teams, I can switch teams if I believe I should be fired or think I can do better than the Bills. I will provide previews, game summaries, and Around the Leagues. I will also be playing the games, not doing coach mode.

Tell me if you are following hope you like it. [Reply]

Season Outlook

After a terrible second half to last year's season, which included going 0-6 in the AFC East the Bills hope to rebound. In the offseason they grabbed the talented yet trouble making wide reciever, known as Terrell Owens. In the draft, the Bills took a solid Defensive End from Penn State with the 11th overall pick. Standing at 6'4, 249 pounds he looks to be a contributor right away. Another first round pick, was Center Eric Wood from Louisville. He will not start right away, but hopes to be special in the future.

Yet, the biggest change is at the top. Head Coach Dick Jauron is gone, and Alonso Torres is in. Torres is already in love with the make-up of the offense and hopes to make it feared by defensive coordinators. Nobody in the Bills organization is sold on Trent Edwards though. The 3rd year QB out of Stanford, has been nothing more than mediocre in his first couple years as the starter. This may be the big year for him, as he will try to show the Bills he is in their future. Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson give defenses plenty to handle, with Lynch's pounding run style, and Jackson's play on the receiving end. This running back tandem has the potential to be one of the best in the league. Torres loves what he sees at the receiver position with two deep threats. Evans is known for his big plays on deep bombs. He has the speed to get by any secondary while Owens has the ability to be a possession receiver and a deep threat. This is where the Bills offense shines.

Defensively, the Bills have some work to do. Upfront, they get no consistent pressure. Their only hope is that the rookie Maybin can deliver right away. Their Linebacking crew is generally solid. But with injuries in the preseason to Kawika Mitchell and Leodis McKelvin, their defense takes a big hit. They are some of the Bills' best two defenders and they are out for the season. Their secondary looks to be their best defensive asset. At the corner position Terrence McGee is one of the best in the business. Their safety Donte Whitner isn't one you want to mess with either. While they aren't the most talented secondary, they specialize in getting interceptions and returning them for 6.

Overall, this Bills team has potential. If it wasn't for injuries, Playoffs could be a consideration. Unfortunately, with their star linebackers out, the Bills will most likely miss the playoffs.

Prediction: 6-10

Patriots win in Monday Night Classic

Tom Brady is back! In his regular season debut he passed for over 400 yards and for 3 Touchdowns. The Bills did have some success with 2 interceptions, but Brady gets the W.

The Bills hung in there all night, with big plays such as Steve Johnson's 38 yard TD, and T.O.'s 70 yard screen pass. Lynch pounded the Patriots up the middle for 96 yards and a TD. Yet, it was Wes Welker who was the game's MVP. He had 18 receptions for 246 yards and 2 Touchdowns, including 70 and 62 yard strikes.

It was a tight game all along but it came down to the wire with 3 minutes left and the Bills having possession. They trailed 7 but Trent Edwards put on a show, completing 3rd down after 3rd down. He even completed a 4th and 10 to Fred Jackson near midfield. With a 20 yard pass to Lee Evans the Bills got the ball to the 3 with 18 seconds left.

Edwards made a brutal mistake in the red zone, as Brandon Merriweather picked him off and was tackled at the 1. While most considered this game over, the Patriots had the ball at their 1, and the Bills had a chance at a safety. The Patriots didn't have enough room to kneel down, so they handed it off to Fred Taylor. Taylor ran up the gut for 5, but then Marcus Stroud stripped the ball, and the ball came loose in endzone. A furious fight for the fumble, occured and the Bills recovered it for 6! The Bills had pulled a miracle and forced OT!

In overtime though, it was all New England with Brady finding Moss on a 30 yard strike and Stephen Gostkowski ending the game with a 36 yarder.

Damn. Power went out and I forgot to save this. I was only 2 games deep so I will try and rebuild it.

EDIT: Nevermind. We're back up and running. Not sure why my helmets have all of a sudden become different pictures. Anyone know why? [Reply]

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Buffalo Bills Preview

Today, two 0-1 teams take the field in Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Bills are coming off a heart-breaking loss to their rival Patriots, while the Buccaneers just lost to the Cowboys in a thriller. Yes both teams lost, but these losses were encouraging as they showed these teams are no cupcakes.

Josh Johnson and the Buccaneer offense hopes to get something going today. Tom Brady found holes in the Bills' secondary, and Johnson will look to do the same. However, the Bills' run defense looked especially solid in their Monday Night opener. Tampa did a fairly good job on Dallas' offense containing Romo until the final minutes. Marion Barber had a tough time against them, but Marshawn Lynch looked fantastic in their opener.

Prediction: Buffalo Bills 24, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 21

Tampa Bay Secondary Murdered; Trent Edwards is the suspect

No, Tampa Bay's secondary wasn't actually murdered, but it did seem like it on Sunday afternoon. Not many people would've been surprised if their was a police report filed.

Buffalo had over 500 yards total offensively today in this compelling shootout. Trent Edwards passed for 360 yards and 5 TDs. He connected with Terrell Owens 3 times in the endzone and for 176 yards. Stevie Johnson also had a touchdown for the second straight game. Even Marshawn Lynch decided to join the offensive beatdown. He ran for 143 yards and 2 TDs, breaking tackle after tackle.

Defensively, Buffalo didn't go so well, but it was enough to come out on top. Josh Johnson looked like Joe Montana out there passing for 350 yards and 4 TDs. He found his favorite target Kellen Winslow twice, B.J. Askew once, and Straughter on a deep connection. Cadillac looked solid running for 75 yards and a TD.

Overall, the Bills offense under Torres looks explosive. Their passing attack is one to be feared and Lynch is plowing through defenses. Buffalo moves to 1-1 facing the Saints next week, while Tampa Bay drops to 0-2.
