Weatherford outduels Wright to give #9 Florida State thrilling rivalry win NCAA News
It was just a good old-fashioned gunfight.
Florida State QB Drew Weatherford fired his 5th TD pass, and 3rd of the day to WR Greg Carr, with only 59 seconds left to lift the 9th-ranked Seminoles to a thrilling 42-35 rivalry win over #18 Miami. Miami QB Kyle Wright rallied the Hurricanes back from a 35-21 deficit with 2 long TD passes to WR Lance Leggett, but it was Weatherford and Carr that had the last laugh.
It was a wild shootout that really went down to the wire. The 1st half featured 3 ties and great efforts from Miami RB Javarris James (2 TD runs) and Weatherford (2 TD passes).
In the 2nd half, the Seminoles jumped out to a big 35-21 lead afte Weatherford found Carr for two TD hookups. Miami wouldn't go away quietly, though. Wright hit Leggett for TD tosses of 58 and 40 yards to knot the game at 35 with just over 10 minutes left.
Both teams couldn't get anything more until the final minute. After Florida State forced a punt, the Seminoles wasted no time in putting the game away. On the first play of the ensuing drive, Weatherford dropped back off playaction and found Carr streaking down the sideline for the game-winning 50-yard TD. Miami was unable to match, and Wright's 4th-down pass was knocked down.
Weatherford threw for 344 yards and 5 TDs on 18-of-30 passing but was picked off once. Carr only had 67 yards receiving, but his 3 TDs were huge. WR De'Cody Fagg went over 100 yards receiving and caught a 1st-quarter TD, and RB Antone Smith paced the rushing attack with 106 yards.
Wright was admirable despite the loss. The senior threw for 294 yards and 3 TDs, all to Leggett, on 17-of-24 passing and was picked off once. Leggett was unstoppable, totaling 183 yards and 3 TDs on only 5 catches. His TDs went for 78, 58 and 40 yards.
James led all rushers with 166 yards and 2 TDs on 30 carries.

ACC contenders gear up for Thursday night contest NCAA News
The exciting college football weekend kicks off a little early, as the Game of the Week is actually on Thursday. The 20th-ranked Boston College Eagles travel south to Blacksburg to wage ACC war with the 4th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies. This game will be a very important matchup, with title implications in the line.
Boston College had a bye last week and has had two weeks to prepare for the Hokies. QB Matt Ryan leads an explosive passing attack, but he will face a top-ranked Hokie defense. The Eagles' last game was a 26-21 upset loss to Notre Dame, so they need to shake the rust off quickly against Virginia Tech. Boston College needs to get this upset win to keep pace with Florida State, who beat Miami last week, in the Atlantic division.
Virginia Tech also had a bye last week, so they've had two weeks to ready themselves for Ryan and the Eagles. The Hokies' #1 ranked defense has been awesome so far, and it has helped immensely that their balanced offense has been productive. Heisman candidate WR Eddie Royal will look to shred the Eagles' secondary, but he will have to get past CB DeJuan Tribble first. RB Branden Ore is one of the ACC's top rushers.
Home-field advantage, a tough defense and too many playmakers on offense gives Virginia Tech the edge, and should give them the victory.

#4 Virginia Tech holds of #20 Boston College for important ACC win NCAA News
Virginia Tech CB Brandon Flowers returned an interception 32 yards for a score as time expired to put an exclamation point on the 4th-ranked Hokies' 42-25 victory over #20 Boston College. Virginia Tech built a 28-10 lead, watched uneasily as the Eagles cut the lead to 3, before getting 2 late TDs to put the game away.
It was a hard-fought 1st half between these two ranked ACC contenders. Both teams traded 1st-quarter rushing TDs, but the Hokies got 2 field goals in the 2nd quarter to take a 13-7 lead into the break.
In the 3rd quarter, Virginia Tech extended their lead on the strength of their passing game. QB Sean Glennon hooked up with Heisman candidate WR Eddie Royal on TD passes of 23 and 80 yards to put the Hokies up 28-10. Boston College senior QB Matt Ryan answered back with a TD pass just before the 3rd quarter ended, and the teams went into the final frame with the Hokies up 28-17.
Early in the 4th, Ryan fired his 2nd TD pass and the ensuing 2-point conversion to cut the lead to 28-25. Virginia Tech decided they had enough horseplay, and worked the clock on a long drive, capping it off with RB Kenny Lewis' 1-yard TD plunge with only 2:11 remaining.
Ryan tried to mount a comeback, but didn't have enough time and couldn't get anything going. His final pass of the game was picked off by Flowers, who took it to the house to account for the final score.
Royal was unstoppable against the Eagle secondary, totaling 156 yards and 2 TDs on only 4 catches. Glennon threw for 307 yards and both TDs to Royal on 18-of-33 passing. Lewis paced the rushing attack after starter Branden Ore went down with a minor injury, totaling 73 yards and his late TD run. Ore added 39 yards and a 1st-quarter score before leaving the game.
Ryan threw for 215 yards, his lowest total of the season, on 19-of-33 passing. He threw 2 TDs but was picked off once. RB L.V. Whitworth added 73 yards rushing and a 1st-quarter TD.
