For those that just want to chuck the slider in the game and play, I will post them first. For those who care about the philosophy that lead me to choose these slider settings, you can find that info below. Though, please at least read the “House Rules” section first.

HOUSE RULES:
1)
These sliders were made intended for a specific play-calling strategy. That is, either sticking to “Ask Madden” suggested plays, or by using “beginner” play calling mode, as opposed to “hardcore”. Beginner play-calling is actually the harder of the two, since the game selects the play for you. As well, “beginner” mode does not allow for hot-routes. Audible are allowed though. I personally recommend “Beginner” play-calling, unless you are in a two-minute situation. (You can change play-call style without leaving the game) But, if you are still pretty new at the game, “Hardcore” and “Ask Madden” may be necessary.

2)
Another thing I am still testing out is playing defense. Most of this testing was done with random defensive plays being called in practice mode with me simply being a neutral observer. As a result, doing things like manually adjusting coverage and positioning, or even being an active player on the field, may have adverse effects on the balance of these sliders. I am still confirming this. For now, I am simply letting the CPU play defense for me.

3)
Let the CPU return kicks for you. Returnign kickoffs and punts is way to easy if you control the player. Keep the game fair. Lay off on KR's and PR's.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INTRO NOTES:
1)
These sliders were not developed for perfect stats across the board. If stats are your thing, you'll certainly notice that YPC on the ground and YPA and Comp% through the air are much lower than real life games. Shortly, this is to compensate for Madden's pervasive big-offensive-play-on-every-play nature.

2)
Be smart with the football. Cover the ball if you're running to protect against the fumble. And don't make dumb throws (late across the middle, into triple coverage, etc) The defense is very ball hungry with these sliders.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Block Shedding: 5
Tackling: 8
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAKING YOUR OWN ADJUSTMENTS:

There is really only one slider here that I would consider adjustable. That is the CPU Interception slider. Basically, if you are a super highly skilled passer that, you may want to boost the CPU Interception slider as high as 48 (Makes overall CPU skill = 16) . If you are having a horrible time getting anything done in your passing game, you might want to lower the CPU interception slider as low as 33 (Lowest setting which would keep CPU skill at 17). There is a reason I’m being so specific about the range has to do with overall skill.

The higher the CPU skill, the harder it is for the CPU. Skill moves in 15-point intervals, once beyond the first 2 points on a slider. This is *not* to imply that in-between values make no difference.

I would not adjust the CPU interception slider, unless you are way below or way above what the CPU is able to do through the air.

Outside of interceptions. if you choose to make adjustments to the running game, I would suggest making very small changes to run-blocking for both sides.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MORE ABOUT THESE SLIDERS:

I.) Goals and Discoveries...

Before setting out to make these sliders, I decided to throw out all convention. I had a handful of goals in mind:

Keep yardage and scoring within a realistic range over a full 60 minute game (15min quarters, 25sec run off) This implied making both the CPU and HUM defenses VERY aware.

Give the Human and CPU equal ability to move the ball on the ground, but not so much that every run is 7-10 yards.

While using a very high QB accuracy for HUM and CPU, keep the passing game from being overpowering and unstoppable.

Maintain a discernable difference between Peyton Manning and Shaun Hill at QB ability. (Luckily, this turned out to be built-in to the game, despite sliders)

To make these sliders, I didn’t start out at zero or any other standard baseline. I went into practice mode and started making adjustments somewhat willy-nilly. I would place focus on run/pass off/def for both HUM and CPU individually and combined in repeating situations as well as randomized situations.

After 12+ hours of testing, I’ve come away learning a lot about how the sliders do some balancing behind-the scenes.
Most importantly, I found that passing offense sliders have a substantial impact on the opposing pass defense sliders. What I was seeing is that increasing QB accuracy or WR catching altered made the opossinng defense dumber, without having actually changed the defensive sliders.

I also learned that you can raise one offensive or defensive slider, while also increasing the *apparent* (not actual) value of other respective off/def sliders. I was able to substitute QB accuracy for WR catching. I was also able to substitute Interceptions for Pass Awareness, or Rush Awareness for Tackling.

This lead many of my slider settings to have one slider out of the group of three set much higher than the rest. In testing, there are few situations that played very well when I tried to make more moderate or *visually* balanced sliders. The fact is that there are some things that one slider does better than others.

I tried, with exception to the interception slider, to avoid setting any slider at 0 or 100. Goofy things start happening at those extremes.

II.) Results...

Ultimately, getting a consistent running game going is the toughest part. It’s hard to get good enough blocking and awareness on both sides of the ball. I will admit that the running game isn’t quite where I want it for either side. Both sides run very similar, in that you will rarely see gains over 3 yards. However, the CPU is more prone to break off a big run than the HUM. So, it’s hard to balance it all out. I am going to do some more extensive testing in franchise before making many adjustments to the run game.

What I am happiest with at this point is my passing sliders. When I started with a high QB accuracy and low WR catching, I found that two things happened. 1) My receivers were still making great catches and 2) My receivers ran much better routes, leaving defenders in the dust and getting wide open. I thought I could fix this by increasing defensive pass awareness. However, no matter how high I made it the defense was never able to get in position to bat down a ball. They were still too easy to beat. So, on I whim, I put defensive pass awareness down to 0 and boosted interceptions way up to 60. Boom, defense was maintaining great positions and making great plays on the ball. If I threw into a wad of 2, 3, or 4 defenders, I would be returned a deserved interception. I like it! However, the same did not hold true for the CPU offense against the HUM Defense.

Here, I found that relying on the interception slider alone was producing some god-like interceptions for the HUM. Sure the coverage was good, but it was a deal breaker that the CPU was throwing 5+ picks a game. So the high-awareness strategy was reemployed for the HUM, and is getting reasonable results so far.

III.) In closing...

Ultimately, I realize that sliders aren't based on some exact science. It's really up to your personal tastes if you like the approach I'm taking with these sliders. I’m just posting these for those that might want try sliders with a little different flavor than others that are out there.

It really comes down to what kind of things you can and cannot stand to see in your game play. I personally cannot stand inaccurate QB’s and imbecile defensive players. I also cannot stand the 50+ point blowouts and 500-600+ yard offensive outings that usually come from 15-minute quarters. I think I have succeeded at minimizing these two problems, so that I don't expect to see a touchdown on every other drive.

However, to fix one Madden problem, there is always a sacrifice. In this case, it is going to be both QB’s passer ratings and completion percentage. Unless you rolling with Peyton Manning, I wouldn’t expect you’ll be getting much better than 50-55% completion. This is done because those balls that are completed usually go for 10-12 yards. So, in order to make 1st downs harder to come by, I had to do something to keep every drive from being a scoring drive. So, if you’re hung up on stats, you might want to pass on by this set.

Likewise, In franchise games I’ve played thus far the CPU offense is neither overpowering, or inept. They'll get to the red-zone on some drives where they can convert on a string of 3rd-downs. And others will stall out. From what I've seen so far, the HUM should have a roughly equal challenge. However, I will repeat that, for the time being, I am letting the CPU play defense for me. No adjustments are being made by me, except for in two-minute situations where I might audible to a cover-3 or some other play.

If you're really good at the game, these will probably be too easy. I'm no Madden expert :)

I'm seeking more realism than challenge. A good team should play well and whip a bad one more often than not. I'm hoping to get teams to play to their strengths/weaknesses and have the games come out how they come out.

Trying to minimize "wild stats", things like 90% completion or 7+ YPC.

Trying to keep the cheesy side of the game engine to a minimum. I know the limitations/flaws will rear their heads, but it shouldn't be constant if at all possible.

I know this isn't optimal, but I tested with the Ravens. Not only is it a team I know probably the best out of my teams, it's a middle-of-the-road team talent-wise with clear weaknesses and strengths.

I also have a fantasy draft roster of young players, and I certainly can feel the differences in the two.

Finally, I don't switch on defense and don't have any "money" offensive/defensive plays. So those who do, I don't know how these sliders will react.

Here's the sliders:

Game Options
Quarter Length: 15 minutes
Play Clock: On
Accel. Clock: On
Accel. Clock Runoff: 25 sec
Camera: Broadcast (changes the angles some and a little easier to see some things while a little harder to do deep passes and some routes - plus I like it the best LOL)
Injuries: 38 (was getting too many small injuries too often)
Fatigue: 65 (was 100, but I don't think defenses becoming exhausted during a drive in the 1st quarter is realistic)
Game Speed: Very Slow
Speed Threshold: 85 (For now, seems to help things stay even. 50 made a ton of big plays at this game speed for some reason)
Motion Sensor Function: 0

Penalties
All set to 10. They are mostly animation creators and I never got many penalties anyway even with them turn to 100. So I put them at 10. May change a few of them later on.

Player Skill
Passing: 15
QB Accuracy: 20
Pass Blocking: 25
WR Catching: 30

(Harder to get separation and low QB Accuracy hopefully will keep the high percentages to the best QB/WR combos)

Rushing: 10
Broken Tackles: 40
Run Blocking: 50
Fumbles: 52

(Was seeing too many fumbles for some reason both for an against me. This is the most influx section as I look for more steady runs and fewer "insta-touch-tackles" against RBs without things getting crazy)

Pass Defense: 13
Reaction Time: 15
Interceptions: 0
Pass Rushing: 90

(The reaction time was 40, but I saw too much craziness and QBs with under 40% completion. Pass Rushing might seem high but it puts pressure on the AI QBs - like the AI will put you your line - and attempts to minimize plays where there's all day to throw)

Run Defense: 17
Reaction Time: 40
Block Shedding: 0
Tackling: 5

(Trying to allow true lanes and sealing edges while also allowing defenses to recognize and react to what's happening. Lower tackling tries to make position by the defender matter when attacking ball carriers.)

CPU Skill
Passing:
QB Accuracy: 20
Pass Blocking: 25
WR Catching: 30

Rushing:
Broken Tackles: 40
Run Blocking: 50
Fumbles: 52

Pass Defense:
Reaction Time: 15
Interceptions: 0
Pass Rushing: 90

Run Defense:
Reaction Time: 40
Block Shedding: 0
Tackling: 5

CPU and human sliders are the same right now, and hopefully, that can stay that way or pretty close.

Special Teams
FG Power: 55
FG Accuracy: 20

(I just can't miss FGs for some reason. I shouldn't be deadly accurate with Hauschka...)

Punt Power: 90
Punt Accuracy: 90

(Allows punters to change field position while also maybe allowing punt returns if the coverage is bad. I've seen the AI punters do better and actually shoot for the sidelines more...too bad they still aren't too accurate in placing inside the 20.)

Kickoff Power: 50

(I might drop this. My fantasy drive kickoff kicker can put the ball out of the endzone with and decent wind behind him. Makes Janikowski look rubber-legged.)

Sub Out/In
(listed as Out/In by position)
Offense
QB (50/65)
RB (76/80)
WR (71/76)
FB/TE (72/76)
OL (10/20)

Defense
DT (30/45)
DE (30/45)
LB (30/45)
CB (30/45)
S (15/20)

(I wanted the defenses to tend to wear down if they have to be on the field longer, making the TOP battle more meaningful. I might have to increase the in/outs on defense as these were set when I was using 100 fatigue and guys would get exhausted on the first drive of the game, and it doesn't account for teams that rotate either.)

After playing with the slider setting for about a couple of weeks, I've finally found excellent settings that makes teams play to their weakness/strengths all lot better.
This doesnt help with schematic sacks (great CPU blitzes are still easy for the QB to dump the ball before the sack), but you can generate a ton of heat with the players you control.

Hey I was wondering if anyone knew of any sliders to help me out? I really suck at running, and pass rushing. I am pretty decent at D, and I tear the D up through the air. The problem is I can't find a set of sliders that even the game out at all. I always end up winning and I was hoping that someone had any sliders that could help me out to even all this stuff out and give me a challenge so I am not always going 16-0. Also my Threshold is 0 because I hate it when a 85 speed CB can keep up with my 99 sped WR on every play. Any help would be great.

How To Make Madden 10 Challenging

Madden 10 is a step in the right direction for the series, but problems with passing, coverage, physics, momentum, and footwork continue to plague the game wreaking havoc on the outcome of plays.

Madden 10 is a step in the right direction for the series, but problems with passing, coverage, physics, momentum, and footwork continue to plague the game wreaking havoc on the outcome of plays. For this reason many people do not find Madden Challenging are unable to reproduce realistic statistics in their offline Franchise games.

The best way to make the game challenging is to use a set of sliders. If you enjoy Slow or Very Slow Speed, then I suggest using the NFL Simulation Sliders which are tuned for 15 minute games using a 25 second runoff, or if they are not your cup of tea to try out other sliders that gamers have worked on available in the Madden 10 Sliders Forum with a nice list to all available sliders being maintained in the Madden 10 Sliders Guide which is organized by Game Speed making it easy to determine which slider you'll be interested in trying.

Once you find a slider that plays the way you think the game should play, either by representing the game better (proper blocking, running, turn overs, number of plays in a game) you will more than likely need to make the game more challenging, especially the longer you play the game as you become more proficient with your stick skills and your play calling.

In order to make the game more challenging, I have put together a set of ways to play the game that make it more, and more challenging. Try out the Challenges below and tailor the game until you find a point that provides a challenge for you when you play.

The Power Player Rules are can be applied to any of the Challenges below. Think of the Challenges as 'modes' to play the game in and the Power Player Rules as configurations for the modes. Use none, some, or all of the Power Player Rules to make the game more challenging. Remember, the goal is to make the game fun/challenging for you, not frustrating, but fun and challenging.

When playing the game, try the following:

Limit Punt/Kick Return TDs
It's too easy to run back kick returns and punt returns for TDs or really big yardage plays. In order to limit the effectiveness of returns, try the following:

Do Not Use the Turbo Button (makes it nigh impossible to run one back)

Allow the CPU to run it back for you (should only get about 1 or 2 kick returns per season, which is about average)

Remove Money Plays
Lets face it, there are problems with the AI that we simply can't fix with sliders. When you find a play that the AI can't cover, then take it out of the playbook. Do not call the play. Money plays ruin any semblance of realism. You can't have realistic games using plays that AI can't defend.

Running plays that you may find overpowering on offense include:

Toss Play

Power O Play

Sweeps

Passing plays that you may find overpowering on offense include:

Floods

Throws to the Flats

Screens

Limit Offensive Adjustments

No Hot Routes

No Line Adjustments

No Movement

No Audibles

No Throws to Flats

No Screens

Limit Defensive Adjustments

No Hot Man Assignments

No Hot Blitz Assignments

No Hot Zone Assignments

No Audibles

No Defensive Line Adjustments

No LB Adjustments

No CB/Safeties Adjustments

Please sound off if there are any other items I have left off that could be applied to make the game more challenging.

The Rookie Challenge is fairly straight forward. The Rookie Challenge implies that you are doing the following:

Using a Challenging Slider Set

Calling your Own Plays

The Madden Challenge makes things a little more complicated by using the 'Ask Madden' feature of the game. The Madden Challenge implies that you are doing the following:

Using 'Ask Madden' for all offensive and defensive plays

Picking any play provided by the 'Ask Madden' feature

The All Madden Challenge makes things even more complicated by using the 'Ask Madden' feature of the game and limiting players to only one button choice (X, A, or Y). The All Madden Challenge implies that you are doing the following:

Using 'Ask Madden' for all offensive defensive plays

Selecting a button choice at the start of the game (X, A, or Y) and only use that button choice to select from the first set of plays offered by the 'Ask Madden' feature.

The Legendary Challenge is the hardest way to play the game. How is this accomplished? By changing the Play Call Style available in Settings > Game Options > Play Call Style to 'Beginner'.

One would think that Beginner would be the easiest way to play the game right? Wrong. Beginner only gives players one play to play from at the play call screen. In addition, once you are to the line it's impossible to make any audibles, hot rots, or changes in coverage. Pretty much all you can do is select a player and control this player. The Legendary Challenge implies that you are doing the following:

Using the 'Beginner' setting in the Settings > Game Options > Play Call Style menu.

Summary
Remember the goal is to make the game game more challenging in order for gamers to have more fun while playing it. The Challenge you need to use and the Power Player Rules options are completely up to you. Play the game how you want to in order to enjoy it!

Game speed: Fast - I feel like this mirrors the NFL's speed.
Player Min. Speed Threshold: 0 - as long as you're playing the computer (sliders aren't used online) and you don't try to take advantage of speed, these are amazing. Also, there are less big plays by players with average speed. I got sick of post routes to Cooley going for touchdowns frequently. And INT's and fumble returns aren't guaranteed TD's anymore.
