Not necessarily an interesting matchup at first glance, but if you look deeper, you can see what might be a very exciting game.

Neither team is capable of winning or losing by more than a score, it seems. The lone exceptions to this rule are Notre Dame's 35-0 win over Nevada, Notre Dame's 40-14 win over Washington State, UConn's 52-10 win over Rhode Island, and UConn's 37-25 win over Louisville.

Although some of these games have featured blown leads (Pitt pretty much dominated most of the game against ND and UConn led by 20 points at one point against Baylor, for example), but they all have finished close.

Excluding the Nevada and Washington State games, Notre Dame is has four wins by a combined 17 points and four losses by a combined 18 points.

UConn's five losses are by a combined 15 points.

Also, UConn will be starting QB Zach Frazer (in place of Cody Endres, who is out for the season). Frazer is a transfer from Notre Dame who always dreamed at being the starting QB at Notre Dame Stadium. He'll get that chance after all, except that he'll be starting for the opposing team.

And then add in the Charlie Weis saga and you have a pretty decent matchup in a less-than-stellar college football weekend.

Source: Probe related to Kansas coach

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Kansas has launched an internal investigation related to a personnel matter within coach Mark Mangino's football program, the university confirmed Tuesday.

A source briefed on the situation told ESPN's Joe Schad that one particular incident allegedly involved Mangino yelling at and making contact with a player earlier this season.

During his weekly meeting with reporters on Tuesday, Mangino declined to discuss specifics but said he had apparently lost the confidence of some people. He did not name them.

"I haven't lost the team one bit," Mangino said, according to the Lawrence Journal World. "I may have lost some people around here, but it's not players. Take that for what it's worth, you decipher it."

Athletics director Lew Perkins met with the entire football team Monday night. Mangino, the national coach of the year two seasons ago, was not present.

According to one source, some players have threatened to transfer from the program because of what they perceive to be having spoken to in an inappropriate manner.

Kansas senior quarterback Todd Reesing said the meeting was between Perkins only and the players.

"Lew said an unbiased person, who will have no opinions either way, will conduct the investigation," Reesing said, according to the Lawrence newspaper. "I think Lew's doing what he has to do in the position he's in."

Several players and the parents of some players have had meetings with Perkins about the situation, two sources briefed on the situation told Schad.

The Jayhawks (5-5, 1-5 Big 12) take a five-game losing streak into Saturday's game at No. 2 Texas.
