Basically these are my ideas for my idea of the perfect Madden game. I have been playing madden religiously since 1993 or so and I would love to see my perfect game come to fruition. Feel free to respond with criticisms or comments, but keep in mind this is my idea of a perfect game not yours.

I'll start with gameplay. I actually think they did a really nice job this year with the speed of the game and the gameplay in general. I really think with some tweaks this gameplay engine would work for my perfect madden. I'd like to see a better interaction between receivers and DBs going up for the ball for one. Also I'd like to see more player jostling in general, like the interaction between the lines and the RB bouncing off his linemen and tacklers, things like that. Of course general AI tweaking and things like that need to be done, but I don't see why if the player base can come up with realistic sliders why can't EA?

On the presentation. I, just like everyone else, would like to see a little more fan-fare for the big games. The graphics look solid this year overall and the cut scenes are a nice touch. Add some more player ones, cut back on the ref ones a bit and I think you're money. I think the ability to edit the players hair styles and tattoos would be a really nice feature...quite frankly I'm tired of DeAngelo Williams not having his little braids.

Now on to the real meat of my madden experience, and consequently this post, the franchise mode.

Let me start by saying you have an INCREDIBLE template for this mode in Head Coach 09. Apart from a few things here and there this game was my wet dream, and some fantastic things were done that I had never even thought of. Basically bring Head Coach to Madden, with a few changes. First of all the ratings system. I loved the fact that the overall ratings in HC were based on your system, but it needs to be modified a bit. Just because Carolina likes a power running game does not mean DeAngelo Williams should drop to a 60-something just because hes fast. The system you run should have SOME effect, but most of it should be on the player to determine what he wants on his team. Also, I would love to see the production portion of the ratings expanded and given more weight. Basically the overall rating in Madden means nothing apart from how much money they will make and where they are on the CPUs depth chart, and thats a good thing, but in real life production is the thing that affects salary and depth chart position more than anything.

On to the other ratings. I love the fact that more ratings are added each year...this year we got different throwing accuracies and throw on the run and some others, awesome, keep it up. BUT...hide them from the players. Instead give us a letter grade for each players main stats based entirely on how good your teams scouting dept. is. I just want a general idea of what the player I'm looking at is capable of, until I see him on the field in individual workouts, or I look at his production throughout his career. The system for NCAA recruiting is decent in that regard, but maybe compound it even more. For example, instead of showing ratings for speed, agility and acceleration, only show a single athleticism rating and we can figure out the rest by playing with/watching them play. I just feel with the way it is right now you know a little too well what you're getting into with a player, and in real life they really don't.

I liked the way coaches were handled overall in HC, but in Madden it's horrible. It needs to be scaled back a bit but the HC way is much better. Basically in Madden I feel like hiring coaches was just tacked on at the end. I say take the HC way of hiring every type of coach and give every coach bonuses at various ratings...better coaches get better bonuses, simple. I don't feel the RPG type skill approach to coaches is necessary in Madden because it isn't made to be a coaching simulator. In the current system why would anyone EVER hire a guy like Rob Ryan (or many others) when they only bring negatives to your team. I also think you should be forced to play with the playbooks of your current coaches...make it another wrinkle in hiring your coach where you can examine their playbook before you offer them.

I LOVED the way contract negotiations were handled in Head Coach. I think the clipboard style presentation should be scrapped to let people go about their business on their own schedule except for certain situations, like for example if a player is released to waivers you'll get a pop-up asking if you want to go for him. Otherwise the players are just released to the free agent pool and you can choose to try and negotiate with them from there. The salaries are an issue also. If you've got a veteran role player on your team that knows he's not going to get serious money anywhere then he shouldn't ask for a ton of money. In real life NFL teams pay big money to: top draft picks, free agents they think are going to start for them in the next 2-3 years, or current players who have played well and they want to lock up. Why is it in Madden currently that I'm paying my nickle back $4mil a year and every guard I've ever had makes $4mil. Good players make good money, average players make average money, bad players make minimum...very simple, make it happen. I like the fact I'm encouraged to build through the draft this year but don't MAKE me build through the draft.

Speaking of the draft. The scouting portion of Head Coach was nice, but I still feel it can be better...it was definitely better than Maddens scouting. At this point I don't even look at the scouting screen because I don't want to know ahead of time which players have the best potential. It's just unrealistic. Also the rookie contracts need to scale better. This is much improved this year but needs to get much better. I like players having personalities and wanting certain things out of the teams that sign them, but for the most part rookies don't get that choice. The top guys make a lot and it goes down from there, make it so. There is no reason my 2nd round pick RG who is slated to start for me will refuse to sign for anything less than 5 yrs/$40mil. I LOVED rookie free agent signing in HC, it was very fun and I looked forward to it every year.

On to the rosters...PLEASE GET RID OF ROSTER MINIMUMS. It doesn't make any sense. If a guy wants to have nothing but HBs on his team then let him. He will lose and realize he needs other players, what is the problem here. That has ALWAYS been an issue with me and many others as well. Also bring over the proper roster limitations from HC. I want a full compliment of training camp player and I want to have to make the tough decisions as pre-season goes on as to who to keep. Also give me a practice squad to put young player who just aren't quite ready yet. Last but not least PLEASE GOD make IR work correctly!!! I NEED roster exemptions when I've got a guy hurt for the season. I live in the orlando area and I applied for a tester job at Tiburon in 2002 or so and I talked with a couple of the development guys then about it. I don't see what the big deal is. If I place a guy on IR, I get to sign someone else...simple as that, make it happen.

I highly doubt anyone read this whole thing and that's fine, I just wanted to get it out there, and I'm sure I missed some things and I may add to it later, or not, whatever. It would make my day if all or even some of these things made it into Madden in the next year or 2.

Also the feature can cost you, just like it happened to me. I just fumbled and Marion Barber was on the ball. I'm like ok, he has it, right? Nope so now this mini-game, but my friend gets online, block out the buttons you need to push, and they get the ball.

EA if you add a feature. Please, no distractions, and make it reasonable please.

So I'm very impatient so I don't write down a bunch of stuff and put it all on one post. But I have been playing Madden strictly online do to the fact that the 2nd patch hasn't been released (which sucks oh well COD is out now).

So instead of actually just playing online games which is getting boring I started up a Franchise with a team I felt that was bad and wanted to and I could change there scheme to a 3-4.

Anyways I would really like next years games to have DE/OLB in the draft so when you draft a DE and put him at OLB he wont be a 50 overall at the position becasue that is really wack.

Me and my friends have been talking about this a lot, and we can all agree on two things.

#1, improve running animations. Look to NFL 2k5 and the most recent NBA 2k's for inspiration. It will make everything look better, feel better, and keep you in the moment on long runs instead of saying "wow, my RB runs really weird...it looks like a video game." Make it look like someone running. Pretty simple.

#2, make playbooks comprehensive. We want to be able to run the same plays out of any formation. We don't want to have to choose from 3 runs out of Singleback Ace and 2 different runs (with one repeating) from Singleback Ace Twins. Make them more universal---ESPECIALLY inside zone, outside zone, and stretch plays. Teams that use a lot of zone runs will run those out of literally any formation because it is a flexible scheme.

Furthermore, take out the generic playbooks. They add nothing that the team specific playbooks don't have. Then, add in more specialized and innovative schemes. Here are the 4 we would all like to try.

1. Pistol Offense using schemes from Chris Ault of Nevada, Chip Kelly of Oregon, and add in more pro style concepts like inside zone, power o, etc.

2. Spread Offense using Urban Meyer's schemes from both Florida and Utah.

3. Two Back Offense that utilizes both the HB and FB like Bill Walsh. A ton of offset back formations stay in base personnel for a lot of it.

4. One Back Offense similar to USC's. Minnesota and Pittsburgh have a lot of Singleback in Madden, but they don't give you the ability to run a lot of good run plays from multiple formations.

Don't tell me these couldn't work in the NFL. The Dolphins using the Single Wing is the latest example that any system can work with the right personnel. Let us be innovative like the arm chair coaches we are! If you think this would ruin online play, make it only usable offline or make it downloadable content.

I liked the option of pressing Circle (PS3) after scoring to taunt the other team with their own celebration or pressing X to do a regular celebration...or going to certain areas of the endzone to celebrate. Now I usually get the same cutscene every time where a few players (usually guys that didn't score) celebrating.

So what I would like is to be able to select a team, edit their jersey/create from scratch, and then save it as their jersey. I would like this feature because I'd like to make my own alternates. I'd love to make a Yellow Packer jersey, black Jets jersey, red Bills jersey, yellow chargers, yellow Vikes jersey, black cardinals jersey, black 49ers jersey, Gold Saints jersey, Orange Browns jersey and then totally re-do some others. I'm sick of seam teams horrible jerseys: Bills, Seahawks, and the Bengals.

Would any one else love this feature?

I posted this in the main section, but i feel it might be better served here in the Wishlist section.

I don't want to start another Madden vs 2K5 debate/arguement. That's not the point of this thread. I do want to bring to light how cooperative play should be handled in Madden and that is to follow how NFL2K5 did it.

First off all the camera needs to be adjustable so we can play co-op games as we would any other game mode. I dont like the current close-up "Be a pro" cam at all. A "wide" or "classic" or "broadcast" angle would be much better.

The big thing though is that co-op mode should allow both players to call plays as the Quarterback on EVERY play. In 2K5, both cooperative players had control of the play calling screen and could select the play, and whoever did was the QB for that particular play. I feel this is so much better than being relegated to another position in which you are not always engaged in the game. Sharing QB duties on a play by play basis is fun and balanced. You really want to make your play count so you dont let your friend down or stall the drive. I used to alternate plays with my buddy and we spent hours upon hours as teammates.

I hope EA makes these improvements to co-op mode. Any thoughts?

Pro-tak was definetely needed for madden 10. It has its bugs at times and I'd like to see them get fix'd. as an example, running with your running back full speed down the sideline to have him come to a complete stop from a defender tackling him from the back :frown: . wish i had video's to describe this better but i don't sorry.

Animations. I don't wanna sit here and ask for more animations, BUT, what im asking for is no automatic animations. What i mean by that is, certain tackles in the game are automatic. If you are a defender catching up to the ballcarrier, its like an automatic dive at there feet and they get tackled. For every tackle/catch animation there should be 2 different outcomes IMO. instead of the ballcarrier AUTOMATICALLY getting tackled, he should atleast have the ability to keep his ground and maybe stumble a bit and keep on running. That's what kills me the most is having an automatic tackle animation happen to me and i can't do anything about it. Btw, im mainly refering to the tackle animation of hitting the ballcarrier's feet and the ballcarrier just falling over helplessly.

Madden Moments. well i get bored at times and i decide to do these. i rly don't care too much for this feature BUT. if its going to be kept, all i have to say is..... how is there not a restart button when you enter the situation? how did nobody think of that. countless number of times ive had to completely exit the moment and go back into it to restart. the only time to restart is if you fail.

Jump! I really need a jump button. somehow someway. absolutely hate how the cpu decides weather its ok to jump for me or not. weather im the wide receiver or the defensive back, pressing Y to jump for the ball to see either player just sit there and watch the ball go over his head. makes me cry everytime. i remember tapping y was an aggressive catch and holding it was possesive, tho i see no difference. tapping y should b some sort of jumping for the ball animation.

Highlights. Def would like to see an improvement to the Extra Point. highlights of the games throughout the week would b an amazing upgrade. aswell as the halftime show and postgame show(change the damn camera angles). the "wire" camera angle puts the camera through the player at first and its like, all messed up. to add to this, durring the halftime show, it just goes by so fast. when it looks at other games around the league, you get 2 seconds to check out the stats and score. id like to actually see that ya know! maybe a button to proceed ahead whenever im ready to look at the next screen(stats page).

Blocking. need I even talk about this? Its just bad. people turning around to block players 10 yards behind you instead of the defender 5 yards in front of you. To add, id like to see fully completed movable blocks. I know they got some if it done in madden 10. And, to add onto that some more, Im looking to see some sort of power move from a defender onto an oncomming blocker. If you understand that.

I dislike the cut moves a bit. for example, lets say your reciever is running a square in. from right to left, he catches the ball in the middle of the field. you want to turn upfield but when you hold up instead of just turning upfield he desides to completely stop and "cut"(some sorta jukish move) upwards. it just ruins your momentum. <---- btw momentum lacks a bit in all maddens keep working on it im sure you'll get it as good as 2k's soon enough.

I'll update as i keep playin.

Hello all - and hopefully - Madden devs. I am here to tackle the issue of... dun, dun, dun... sliders!

Now, as you all know, there's a group of people here that experiment and tinker with the sliders here... most of you will know him as Bill and if you want more info on what I'm about to say, you can go to his thread in the sliders forum(I will post it on an edit)...
anyway, I have tested his findings regarding the sliders and have found that they are undoubtedly true beyond a shadow of a doubt in my mind.

Anyway, here's the issue... the sliders...

Issue number one is that if you change one slider, it may completely change up a different aspect of the game play you had no intention of changing.
For example: Upping WR catch will up not only the WR's tendency to catch thrown balls, but it also adjust the QB accuracy, how fast the reciever runs routes, and the amount of space he is able to generate... in essence, this ONE slider changes not only EVERY facet of reciever gameplay, but also a major facet of QB gameplay(accuracy).

Now, the problem with this is that if we want faster more crisp routes, recievers will hardly ever drop balls in any situation, QB's are more accurate, and they may be open more often than we'd like... so I am imploring EA for more control of the sliders and what they effect!

Another example: The tackle slider. This slider doesn't effect how well a player tackles like you would think, it effects a certain range before an offensive player gets sucked into a tackle. Having this slider high will result in offensive players getting sucked into tackles from farther away and a higher probability of a fumble, lower, like everybody should want it, will result in considerably better gameplay and hardly any fumbles at all, leaving us, the consumer, once again without a happy medium.

And it's like this for nearly every slider in the game... So I propose that EA expand their sliders, fill the game up with some sweet animations, and give us control over exactly what we want.

Offense
Passing

- QB Accuracy: This slider should ONLY effect the QB's accuracy and nothing else gameplay related.

- QB Awareness: This slider should effect how well a QB can feel the rush and step up/increase or decrease how well he can feel a defender coming from his blind side(in which case, he should hit the dump off route more often than not, not throw off his back foot for a twenty yard gain).

- QB Throw Power: This should effect how far a QB can throw the ball in optimal conditions.

- QB Throw Velocity: This should effect how fast a QB can throw the ball in about a 15-20 yard window.

Recieving
- Route Running: this should increase a players route running ability. I highly suggest EA seriously do animations for every level of route runner: bad, below average, average, above average, good and great. The worse a route runner the player is, the more he has a tendency to run the route in such a manner that he telegraphs where he is going and is easier to defend. A great route runner would be selling fakes by dipping the shoulder, have great double moves, etc. Average route runners should still be able to pull off a great route, but it should be FAR less frequent than a great route runner(bad route runners should be able to pull off an above average route, but it'd be even more less frequent).

- Catching: Effects the probability a player can haul in a catch.

- Catch in Traffic: Effects the probability a player can haul in a catch when he is about to be hit or the defense is tight.

- Spectacular Catch: Effects the probability the player can haul in jump balls, one handed grabs, or catches on the sideline where a toe tap is needed.

- Release: Effects the ability of a reciever to beat press coverage(again open the animation vault and give players like Moss some shimmies to beat a DB off the line, players like Calvin Johnson some physical moves, and players like Larry Fitzgerald a mixture).

Carrying(this should apply to the player carrying the ball)

- Break Tackle: How well a ball carrier can power through tackles.

- Elusiveness: Effects the animations triggered when an elusive back breaks a tackle and how often these animations are triggered(maybe a modifier for juke/spin, too).

- Trucking: Effects how often a player will truck an opposing ball carrier.

- Fumble: Effects the probability a player will lose the ball when tackled.

Blocking

- Pass Blocking Strength: Right now this is used as a general suction rating. If a blocker is rated high in this, he can start his block animation and trap the defender from further away. In my opinion, it should be used to determine how often a player gets beat on bull rush maneuvers.

- Pass Blocking Footwork: Right now this effects the players ability to handle finesse moves. I believe this slider should have two effects, the first being it's use now, and the second being the players ability to ride the pass rusher down field and create a pocket(basically, increase the probability of a 'steering'[which we know exist] that can be branched out of).

- Run Blocking Strength: Right now this is used much like pass blocking: a range for how far away a player needs to be to initiate sucking a defender in and performing a run block. In my opinion, this should be used to determine how big of a push and how quickly a player can push an opposing player out of the way.

- Run Blocking Footwork: This does what I think Rub Blocking strength should do. In my opinion, this should decrease the probability of a being shed quickly.

- Impact Blocking: Should effect the frequency of decleaters or crackbacks.

Defense
Pass Defense

- Pass Reaction: Right now this gives the CPU player an unrealistic speed boost to a ball in flight(aka a suction to the ball triggered by the range at which a player can start an animation). What this should do is change the speed a player reacts and IF a player can react(in the case of strong armed QB's gunning a ball, sometimes the defender doesn't have enough time to bat it down) to a ball that is thrown. I think this is a modifier btw for play reaction and if that's the case, linemen with a high play reaction should be more likely to time out the snap count and jump it(this would actually bring back the dynamic of offsides, because bad linemen would occasionally try to jump the snap count or get confused by the players cadence).

- Interceptions: How well the defense as a whole can catch balls that hit their hands.

- Man Coverage: How often a player gets beat in man coverage.

- Zone Coverage: How well a player can take away passes in a zone and how often he might blow his coverage.
- Press Defense: How well a player can play the press, jam the receiver, and how often he gets beaten at the line by receivers with a great release.

- Finesse Moves: How well a player uses finesse moves to get to the QB.

- Power Moves: How well a player uses power moves to clog a lane.

Pursuit Defense

- Rush Reaction: Instead of the unrealistic speed boost the player gets to fill the whole or get to the ball before it has passed the line of scrimmage, the player should simply... GASP, react better to the rush. Players very highly rated in this attribute should be able to read the offense and try to take away things that the offense is trying to get(ie the offense has been running to the right a lot, maybe have a defensive player read the run and try to get contain on the outside).

- Block Shedding: How well and quickly a player can shed a blocker.

- Pursuit: Effects how often a player will take a good pursuit angle over a bad one/tendency to over/underpursue.

- Tackling: Effects how often a bad defensive player misses a tackle/how often a good defensive player can wrap up and stop the ball carrier.

Hit Power: Effects how hard players can hit and how often they can force fumbles.

Universal

- Strength: I have no idea what this effects now, but in my opinion it should be the players ability to push the opposing player when no special moves are being utilized/push a pile.

- Speed: Effects the speed at which all players move(and yes, keep differential).

- Agility: Effects the players abiltiy to cut without losing speed or coming to a complete stop/come to a complete stop and start moving again.

- Acceleration: Effects how fast a player can attain his top end speed.

Jumping: Effects how high all players can jump with respect to their ratings.

---

As far as I'm concerned, you give me the sliders to work with and I can make the game play like real football within the constraints of this engine. Obviously, you guys can create a slider for each category labeled SUCTION or ASSIST so that there are sliders that govern how much a player should be sucked into something... I mean, you have those sliders already, you just have them labeled as ratings like RBS and PBS and even the catch/int/tackle rating include this logic.

As a niner fan, I hate that every year I can see exact plays run by the Saints in their playbook, but nothing but inaccurate guess work has been done on the 49er playbook. Just because the 49ers are not an elite team doesnt mean that an NFL simulation should ignore their playbook and tendencies. And dont go saying we fans dont know what were talking about. I watch every single game, and I know for a fact that many formations and plays the 49ers actually use are always left out, and I bet its the same way for most of the teams in this game.

They dont have the gun empty flex trips formation, where Vernon Davis is flexed at the line, and there were some formations run against the colts that are not in the playbook like that tight single back formation they ran that looks like this-

notice the TE is not on the line on the right. This is the formation Gore scored the 60 something yard run on. Go look at the highlights, and on Gore's big run you will see the formation, which isnt in the game.

I'd like to see more formations. in fact, if I were the one responsible for playbooks, I would watch every single game, write down (draw) every single formation used, and then put every single formation used more than 10 times by each team into the game. This would take a couple of weeks of watching film and writting down from 8-5, but what do you EA people do all day? Play in ball pit meeting tables?

Also, the generic WCO is terrible. Not only is there like 7 shotgun formations (you never saw this in the WCO until this last decade), but there isn't one single split back formation in it. The WCO was founded on the split back formation. I dont get it.

I will be adding several other things to this thread later, but sometimes I get the feeling that EA's playbook guys don't watch a lot of film except for the popular teams, the ones that are winning a lot today. but i want an NFL experience, so please EA, put in some more time on this.
