Re: 1987 Roster

I am not only messing with those two playbooks I mentioned, but I created a Wayne Fontes and Buddy Ryan VIP for them too. I have to play a few more games, but my Buddy Ryan VIP just beat me a few minutes ago. Randall was running and the Bear D was in full action.

Re: 1987 Roster

Yes, you can upload your VIP, but you'll have to zip it first (using winzip or jzip, a free version that works exactly the same as winzip).

In the game, after you choose the match-up, go to the next screen and on the left side is an option for VIP coaches. Choose the correct one and back out. You can change the playbook there too.

I have been playing the Lions vs the Eagles and saving the VIPs for those coaches for a few days now. The Eagles' Buddy Ryan VIP has been tearing me up and it's cool to see them run their Bear defense a lot, but I'm having a little trouble with my Wayne Fontes VIP on defense. It doesn't always want to pick a play in time. I need to play more with that one.

One note: If you create a VIP and want to save it, be sure it is the ACTIVE VIP (you can make it so in the MANAGE VIP section). Otherwise, you can only save one VIP and it will be whatever one is active. I found this out the hard way as I finished a Buddy Ryan game and it made me save it over the Wayne Fontes VIP. I back out, but I'm not sure if it still saved it there or not. That might be my problem.

Unrelated 1988 roster note: I have still been plugging away at 1988 and am surprised at how much I've completed in a short time. None of the players are rated yet, but all but 5 teams have the correct players on their teams, including the FAs. I think I'll be starting some of the rating on Christmas break. Those waiting- don't get excited yet; there are still months of work to be done, but I am way ahead of where I thought I'd be.

Re: 1987 Roster

I'm not ready to start a 1988 thread yet, but since I've released a bunch of info on what I've been doing on it, here is yet another update:

ALL THE PLAYERS ARE NOW CREATED AND ON THEIR TEAMS!

1. That was a huge task, but all rosters have been filled out and all players that changed teams or were created have been checked for equipment, personal info and number.

2. Exactly 500 players were created and moved to their correct teams.

3. Every team saw changes ranging from 10 to 27 players.

4. 234 rookies have been created and placed on their squads. 164 of them have PBP or sound-alike names.

5. Every team has 53 players.

6. All the FAs are in place.

7. Here is a link to the rookies that were added. Keep in mind, I have not yet rated anyone. It may look that way, but it is only because I overwrote players of the same position. Also, there are some players that have played more than one position and I haven't placed them in the correct spot yet (CB to SS, etc.) Please don't complain about ratings that haven't been done yet: http://www.nfl2k5rosters.com/1988rookies.html

8. I rated the Bengals today, so I guess it's one team down, 27 to go.

Re: 1987 Roster

'88 Bengals -- my all-time favorite team! I can't wait! Boomer, James Brooks, Ickey Woods, Eddie Brown, Tim Krumrie, Eric Thomas, David Fulcher etc!

Will Stanley Wilson make it through the season?

By the way, Eric Thomas was a solid cover corner that season although he was below most people's radar.

What a year and what a Super Bowl. I'm going to take revenge on Montana once you release that season!

Thanks for all of your hard work!

Re: 1987 Roster

Two 1988 teams rated so far:
Bengals
Lions

I played a game tonight: Bengals at Lions. One of the best teams against one of the worst... and it showed. I was the Lions and got beaten badly, 38-10. I was never in question. The game was 14-0 after one, 21-3 at half, 31-3 after three and 38-10 when finished. I scored a late TD (Long to Garry James) with 20 seconds left. Boomer chewed me up something fierce and James Brooks popped an 80-something yard TD after breaking a bunch of tackles. It was a fun game trying everything I could to score and coming up short again and again. Getting picked off on the 1 wasn't too cool though.

1/14th of the way there!

Re: 1987 Roster

Third 1988 team completed: 49ers

I played the Bengals (me) at the 49ers: the Super Bowl match-up.
Great game. I hit a couple deep balls early to Tim McGee and one to Brown, Eric Thomas picked off Montana and went 80 yards for a score, but the 49ers still pulled it out. I tied the game at 27-27 on a 4 minute drive in the fourth, but I left 30 seconds on the clock. A 15 yard facemask and a couple Montana to Taylor throws and Mike Cofer hit a 46 yard FG with no time left to beat me, 30-27.

Re: 1987 Roster

Yeah. They had a good defense (some of the better LBs in the league) and a terrible offense. It's kind of frustrating to even play with them, much like I'd imagine playing for them at the time did .

UPDATE: I have finished a few more teams:

- Detroit Lions
- Chicago Bears
- Minnesota Vikings
- San Fran 49ers
- Houston Oilers
- Cleveland Browns
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Pittsburgh Steelers

That was over Christmas Break. Unfortunately, back to work and coaching, so no more updates for a while. I'll keep y'all informed.
