The NFL History Program Questions

Does it need a certain version of Finn's editor? I can not get it to work. Or maybe I am using it wrong.

Has anyone been able to successfully use the program?

Re: The NFL History Program Questions

Meaning you can't install it properly? Can't open files correctly? Don't know where things are located? What?

Clearly many people in this forum have been able to use it correctly....why do you think there's so many satisfied customers?

Two quick things on a guess here are:

#1 -- don't unzip files and then try to open those files with the editor.
#2 -- if you used a download manager to grab a roster or franchise, it may corrupt it and the editor won't be able to open it.

...and, what is the "NFL History Program"?

Re: The NFL History Program Questions

After generating the .CSVs, I open Finn's editor and the NFL2k5Controller program, then I load the .CSVs and hit the OK button, but nothing happens.

I am on Vista, if that helps.

Re: The NFL History Program Questions

If BAD_AL ever gets the program working so it doesnt use shared name-slots for last names, I will start cranking out recent historic seasons.

I would love to create:
--1995
--1999
--2002

The problem right now is that the program re-uses name-slots (e.g. everyone named Smith will be piled on to the same last name-slot). This is a problem because shared last names do not allow "last-name only" PBP tool to function... This also renders Finn's tool that instantly sets all PBP to "last-name only" as completely useless.

So, if you want to have players' last names spoken in-game after using the History Program, you have to set them all by hand and for any players who need to use the "last-name only" feature (all names that are only included with a first name), you also have to edit each of those players so they all have a unique last name-slot (this is literally hundreds of players).

That is an extra step for all 1939 players in a roster that shouldnt be necessary, but apparently BIG_AL's having trouble getting the program to write names that way. I'm not a programmer, but I dont see what the problem is honestly; you would think it could just work in the same way that Finn's "paste exact copy" tool does; just overwriting both the first name & last name slots each time. since all players in the default roster have unique first & last names, there wouldnt be any issue w/ shared names or overwriting linked player names unintentionally... And you know it would function bug-free because this is how Dan creates his rosters (he overwrites every name-slot in the same way) & they've never had a problem

Re: The NFL History Program Questions

Can anyone confirm if this works with version 4 of Finn's editor?

If not, is version 3 available anywhere?

OK, when I tried it, it appeared that it kept overwriting the same player. When it got to the end of the first team, it just kept bringing up the search box.

Re: The NFL History Program Questions

I got it to work a long time ago, but I can't get it to function right anymore either. I can generate everything on the history end just fine, but when I load everything up and click go... nothing. It says its reading the names, but I never get anything after that.

I pretty much do all my own ratings/creation anyway, so not a big deal for me, but it would be nice to see it in action again.

I just tried the latest release of Finn's editor and the latest release fo NFL2K_History on Vista and seemed to work fine (I am an administrator ).

puja since you complained, I've compiled a half-*** solution for you.
In this special release there is a 'Just type name' checkbox. when this check box is selected, NFL2KController will just enter the player's name in the text box (it will not select a name from the 'change name' popup). This feature should work fine on rosters where all players already have unique names. It's not an official release, but it should work for what you want to do.

Re: The NFL History Program Questions

awesome-- sorry if it came off as a complaint. i like to think of it more as constructive criticism

i hope you didnt take it as a slight on what is an AMAZING project; on par with what Finn has done for 2K5 & certainly much more complex & specialized than anything a roster-maker has done

kudos w/ or w/o the name fix
