Ratings guide - xls attached

I put together a guide for rating the different positions/players, thinking it may be helpful for those creating or updating rosters for the coming season, or additional historic seasons.

Please understand that this is one man's opinion, but it is based on the great work and investigation of others here (puja, Dan, daflyboys, etc) over the past few years, as well as my own experiences with the game.

If you find it interesting and useful, great. If not your cup of tea, no problem. Just wanted to share some thoughts on the game and player ratings that I had.

Thanks!

Cap... this looks like it would be helpful, but I keep getting a "no archive found" message from winrar. Maybe it didn't UL correctly. How about just zipping it?

IDK....maybe my DL manager (download accelerator plus) is messing it up somehow. I can't seem to deactivate this version when I want to like I could before. I do get this prefix on the file name when I do download it: 10248d1219757060-

Capa: I checked it out. Pretty interesting. So the lower number is the minimum you think it should be for ALL players? Just curious since you mentioned that a guy with pass block below 70 (for example) wouldn't even be in the NFL.

Looks cool and like I have some work to do. With just the game as is(again i don't have a transfer cable yet) is there a way to do a global edit?

--i used to say CB CVR max at 85... but ive since scrapped that & gone above that for elite players

many also say turn on perfEq to eliminate the DB "slowdown" blown coverage animation

Puja: On the point about EQ, I am not sure I understand it. Since it equalizes things, does that mean that a 70 speed DB will now be able to catch a 90 speed WR? I want to get rid of that break away animation you mentioned but not if it means ratings don't count anymore. Any thoughts?

By the way...Puja and Capa...I REALLY appreciate all the work you guys put into this. Being in my 30's with a wife and kids means I don't have time to do this kind of stuff and really want a game I can just play for an hour or so a night to unwind. With the crap that EA puts out and the fact that we've had no competition for 4 years now, you're work is a god send. I can enjoy playing video game football again! Thank you...and my family thanks you

Daflyboy: Just google winrar demo and get a trial version for free. I just did it and have no problems. You can always just delete it when you are done. Hope that helps.

I have powerarchiver and winrar. Neither is working. Can someone e-mail to me? (daflyboys@yahoo.com)

supposedly this is how PerfEQ affects ratings:
--take the difference between the attribute's value and 80
--halve that number
--bring the original attribute closer to 80 by that value

so if a guy was 95 CTH
95-80= 15
15/2= 7.5
95-7.5= 88.5 (round up to 89)

if a guy was 70 CTH
80-70= 10
10/2= 5
70+5= 75

instead of being apart by 25 on that att, they are now only 19 apart. Just brings everyone a little closer together; the worst players are a lot better and the superstars are not quite so dominant.

i have no proof that this "is" the formula, but it has been mentioned all over various 2K5 forums as having come from someone who worked on the game & is basically accepted as gospel.

Finn actually wrote a global edit formula into the editor that will instantly change the ratings based on this calculation so you can see in the game what it does to the attributes & the OVR rating.

i actually dont like perfEQ & i can claim definitively that i have seen the slowdown animation w/ it on (albeit not often) in both the default roster & updated files, but ppl do claim it eliminates that situation. I would say just play w/ it on & off and see which way you like better

Re: Ratings guide - xls attached

Reno,

Yes, the lower number is what I consider the minimum.

But please understand, this is my opinion based on how I like to play the game and how I like to see the action unfold on the field. Others may, and do, have other views on ratings. There is no one answer, which is why I heavily couched my post with this caveat.

Good reading and feel free to test it out and adjust as required...
