Re: PUJA21 File Discussion Thread

Hey Puja, you're doing an awesome job at this and I appreciate your hard work.

But will you be having a Franchise/Roster update for the PS3? Or is there already one out? Im sorry but I don't have the time to look over the 57 pages in this post. I tried but i'm at work.

Thanks!

That's good. I didnt think it was anyway because you overwrite players like I do and because of that, we'll never go past the amount of players that are in the roster file that we started with. For example, the final roster has 1955 (inc. the seven celebs) players and we should never surpass that amount even though I did surpass the 380 players that are in the Draft Class in my last franchise file.

When you get a chance, download my 2K7 roster and franchise file's. Look at the Draft Class in my franchise file. You'll notice that it's listed as 382 players instead of the normal 380. When you see that, look at the roster file and see if you can figure out why I have the Draft Class with 382 players.

By the way, I already know why it's 382 and it was just another work around that I figured out but if you get a chance, check it out, I want to see if you can figure it out. LOL.

Here's a hint - check the CB position in Free Agents for the roster file and the CB position in the Draft Class.

Riddle me this, riddle me that

...
so here's some info on the file you'll see in a couple hours:
--PBP should be 100% accurate as should DOB
--faces for all rookies should be dead on (check obscure guys even as I compared real-life headshots to all the available in-game possibilities... so you'll have Roy Williams WR face on Aquib Talib, or Phil Rivers on Matt Ryan etc)
--depth charts will be completely unrefined as it's in progress (i havent yet changed the POS for veterans, so Takeo Spikes still OLB, Brooking ILB, Eugene Wilson not a CB, etc)
--about 100 players will be missing still... you will see all drafted rookies & about 75 extra who were in my draft class from last year.
^missing players: about a dozen rookies & 75 vets who didnt play in 2007 (Pacman Jones etc)
--transactions: pretty much all veterans who moved teams are taken care of as of Sept 13 (still a few guys to be cut/signed) One big one that isnt up-to-date I know offhand is that I havent signed or boosted JT OSullivan yet

Again this is just to get some feeback on gameplay & I encourage you to check PBP, appearance, DOB either in-game or in the editor as this should be virtually 100% accurate
^all this still applies-- id just appreciate some feedback on DB play & DL play

AGG is now a legit rating for DL LB & safety: set based on % of team's defensive "plays ended" league wide (tackle, pass deflected INT FF etc). I'll bring more of the details w/ the real posting in a few days. just throwing something up there for now

LDR & CMP for non-QB/P/K was initially baseline derived from experience; eg if there are two equal players, the older player will have better LDR for the most part

LDR: 20 for all "troubled players" (eg Pacman, TO, Tank Johnson, Chris Henry Ahmad Brooks etc etc) 40 for most first time offenders eg 1 time substance abuse violation

There are dozens of details like this included across the ratings & I encourage you to check & comment on anything

you'll notice some bottom tier players (esp rookies) are very low rated, although none below 55 OVR... although many will rise, there are some that will stay low for good reason & i'll explain that with the intial posting

PS Im not a big sliders tweaker but for what it's worth im using the sliders i had saved under "custom" in the 2007 franchises i posted w/ one diff; CPU passing set to the max

EDIT: sorry, just fixed up a couple more things & reupped so ppl can DL & play a few teams quickly. the following teams have "passable" depth charts for the time being although as I said, vets who changed pos are still out of position (so they are at the bottom of their old slot). Guys like Spikes/Ulrich, the Bengals OL, etc. These are the ratings derived from last season's play so you'll still have 07 bench players who are now starters rated ahead of guys now sitting; ex Parys Harlason made fewer plays last year but has now passed Banta-Cain on the DC.

So it's 49ers Bears Bengals Bills Falcons are unfinished but perfectly playable if you want to just DL & go

Re: PUJA21 File Discussion Thread

Just played a half of CHI @ BUF (The U: Hester v Parrish). Here are some replays detailing the QB/DB play that's jumped out at me. AGG remains at one for CBs, safeties are from 24-97 based on % of team's plays they ended. Coverage is boosted signicantly from last season, but CTH remains 2-5 for 90% of CBs (the INT leaders can go up to 25 so dont throw at them). For safeties it's a universal 10 for CTH (except for INT leaders like Atogwe, then same as CB max of 25). With the QBs still getting their juicing from the default rosters & having CPU passing maxed out I think the in game play is improved:

5 Replay saves in a zip, I was playing as the Bills. It's about ~3.5MB so might take a sec to DL... def took a lil while to attach

Replay1:
The CBs are much better @ guarding the fade IMO. Here you have Peanut Tillman in a tight man on taller James Hardy who excels at this route. He's not quite in bump & run but holds tight & gets the hands up... NO CIRCLE animation. Instead, Tillman makes the deflection (granted, I didnt execute the throw particularly well) AND finishes off Hardy w/ a hit to ensure no catch off the tip.

Replay2: McGee takes away the slant in man, line gets a good push. Orton makes the wrong read with Schobel hurrying him... actually this may be the correct read for some if you consider that Kellen Davis (the open man) hasn't finished his curl so the timing wouldnt be there. Anyway, so it's man coverage on a quick slant & follow McGee with the camera: bumps Clark to the outside off his desired path, keeps the left hand shielding within reason, then looks back at Orton, picks up the throw, & makes a perfect play on the ball (couldve done without the show-boating @ the end)

Replay3: Orton confused by zone. As we know CPU QBs dont pick zones apart as well as man in this game. Orton actually had very good #'s in this half-- & when you consider he is one of the worst-rated starters (even juiced) of my file-- that's encouraging. Here you've got the 3 step drop, Youboty takes the short zone & it appears if this were real that Orton mistakenly read man with Clark having Youboty beat... fails to see Greer in deep help & throws into what is double coverage. The throw is actually on target if not for Greer sitting on it & you get the INT we'd actually like to see made in this game... the ones you dont often see dropped on Sundays

Replay4: QB composure at work: designed rollout with Orton, i'm controlling Stroud. Execute the spin, notice the exact moment I break off the guard Orton senses the pursuit & steps up into the throw just out of reach to avoid the backside sack & possible fumble. Completion. First down & Goal.

Replay5: This is actually Vasher making a play on the ball far too early-- typically a blown coverage in the default roster for a TD, but ends up becoming a forced fumble (should be an INT in real life since there is no "FB move," but whatever... I do love that 2K5 is smart enough to at least not let us challenge this). So, this is play action to a fly route facing 1-1 man Josh Reed v Nathan Vasher. I forgot to quick-flip the receivers to get Evans in that matchup lol... obviously much more desireable going deep. Anyway, follow Vasher up close with the cursor. This is terribly underthrown on my part; I should have released this throw a half-beat earlier & given it a little more gas. It's one of those plays where the timing is so off that the CPU defense is actually confused by your ineptitude. So, as a result the DB makes a play on the ball before it gets there. Again, NO CIRCLE ANIMATION where he runs 5 yds from the receiver... rather, the corner keeps him in arm's range the whole time. The key is right at the 48 yd line: CB looks back when the throw is out, while this happens Reed gets two steps, & Vasher overplays breaking on the ball trying to recover. We've all seen it. Typically you are gone for 6 when this happens & it's not very realistic. Instead, Vasher keeps the hand just off Reed the whole time so he can still make the hit immediately w/o PI & w/ letting him get away... & with McGowan's help make a blown play into a turnover.

I've been seeing great plays like this all spring since revamping the ratings ranges back to the default high/lows. Great stuff in the run game to show another time for anyone curious.

Re: PUJA21 File Discussion Thread

So you're not using the 'large attributes' I was confused about before. only 1-99 right. No 100-127. Just curious. My original thought was if VC only made 1-99 then so should I.

Sorry, for the repetive brain picking, but I'm trying to gather as much knowledge as possible on editing. I'm going to start helping to close the gap between 91 - 200? rosters on dolphin's site. Waiting to hear back from someone on a PM to make sure we aren't working on the same year.

Re: PUJA21 File Discussion Thread

anyone notice the NFC & AFC pro bowl teams are now accurate?

right down to the NFC having Ethan Albright as long snapper, Devin Hester return specialist, & Brendon Ayanbadejo being the ST gunner. The depth charts may be slightly off right now since they are determined by the regular 32 team roster depth charts... so if an unfinished team has a guy sitting the bench on his real team then he will move down the pro bowl DC too. However, DC will be made perfect in my final 2007 release & probably nearly so for this upcoming finished 08-09 roster

there are 3 extra players on the NFC b/c the real 2007 NFC Prow Bowl didnt have enough guys pull out the annual "fake injuries" to bring on replacement players & fill out the in-game roster, so i just added Colston, Brees, & Portis since their stats would make them the next logical choices. They are at the back of the depth chart at least

***Also, Jake Long is currently on the AFC & Thomas DeCoud NFC b/c they overwrote two missing Pro Bowlers (retired Jonathan Ogden & deceased Sean Taylor)

Re: PUJA21 File Discussion Thread

Can you do me a favor puja?

Put Aggressiveness at ZERO for CB, SS and FS. Let me know how it plays for you and if you like it.

I did this in a quick game using my 2K9 file between DAL and SF. I noticed that coverage was very tight. I was down 13-0 at halftime using DAL and threw 3 INT's with Romo. Second half, I stuffed SF to a 3 and out. I ran with Barber and eventually scored with him making it 13-7. Next possession, I hit a 13 yard up and in to T.O. and I zoom for another 40-50 yards or whatever for a TD. I won 14-13. What made that play great was the YAC but even more so was the awesome block by Hurd that allowed me to get the YAC and TD.
