i dont think anyone has too been negative or anything like that. they are just asking questions & want to play. i dont take offense to that & i dont mind explaining how the rosters are derived & what goes into them

yup-- i'm actually going to post some test files here in this thread later tonight, just so people can see the new STM/AGG changes & the coverage boosts & I can get feedback on how it plays compared to last season.

reason being i want to get something out there now since i'm having some freezing problems in franchise that i have to go undo, which are probably related to one of two things:
1) the copying/pasting of players on one another I did to make the in-game Pro Bowl rosters accurate for 2007
2) making every last name-slot unique so the last name only PBP tool will always work
^in hindsight i probably should have ONLY made unique slots for those players actually requiring the last-name only tool unique rather than play with fire like i did.

it was pretty crappy to spend 3 hrs copying over 300 new players only to learn it was freezing before that step anyways.... thankfully, because of Finn's restore data tool, I can instantly bring all the changes I've made back to an older, stable file (before I updated Pro Bowlers & made last names unique)... & try again

phew



so here's some info on the file you'll see in a couple hours:
--PBP should be 100% accurate as should DOB
--faces for all rookies should be dead on (check obscure guys even as I compared real-life headshots to all the available in-game possibilities... so you'll have Roy Williams WR face on Aquib Talib, or Phil Rivers on Matt Ryan etc)
--depth charts will be completely unrefined unfortunately as it's in progress
--about 100 players will be missing still... you will see all drafted rookies & about 75 extra who were in my draft class from last year.
^missing will be about a dozen rookies & 75 vets who didnt play in 2007 (Pacman Jones etc)
--All veterans who moved teams are taken care of as of Sept 13
--Jersey #s will be completely wrong still; they will be the # from last year if the player changed teams, & rookies will have their college # for the most part

Again this is just to get some feeback on gameplay & I encourage you to check PBP, appearance, DOB either in-game or in the editor as this should be virtually 100% accurate. All in all I probably wouldve been done Friday night if i had caught & amended the freezing bug earlier-- & now I've been pushed back probably 3-5 days which sucks but could be MUCH worse.

thanks to backing up my data regularly & Finn's amazing restore tool I am still 100% confident we will be able to have accurate salaries for almost everyone this season in franchise mode (i'll be able to carryover 500+ contracts from last season when Finn finishes his latest tool for us!!). Thanks for sitting tight those whove been waiting. A lot of work & data checking has gone into this to make sure nothing slips through the cracks this year & all the info is perfect

Puja- I had that same problem with the unique name slots. Thought I was doing somehing good- maybe not so much. Its still okay for me though, as my files are meant to be played only the one season. Any idea on the reason for it?

I'm going back & forth w/ Finn on this now... I'm starting to worry it's the restore tool that could be at fault because I went back a # of iterations & was able to recreate the problem each time (freezing during full season sim of year1 franchise).

All 4 files had utilized the "restore tool." I really hope that's not the issue; it's such an amazing addition to the editor

I think it has to do with copy and pasting for the new roster im working on some of the players that i copied over from another roster were showing up as created players.but the roster that I copied them over from had no created players associated with them.

So maybe you went past the 64 CAP limit by copying and pasting players which is causing the freezing

no, it shouldn't have anything to do w/ exceeding the 64 CAP limit as far as copying and pasting players at least

not trying to be condescending or a jerk here, but bear in mind ive created prob 10 of these rosters from scratch using the editor's copy/paste tools & renaming in the editor to create literally about ~1000 new players in each of those rosters w/o freezing in franchise mode. I actually created my 07 file by pasting over all 1939 players by hand (since finn's restore data tool wasnt invented back then)

however, you did just flip a lightbulb on in my head with the 64 CAP comment; remember that using the last-name only check box changes that player's type from "DEFAULT PLAYER" into "CREATED PLAYER." I have over 100 last-name only players in my roster... so, maybe by checking that box so many times I have "technically" exceed that in-game CAP total

I'm going to go check my backup files now to see if they all have more than 64 "created players"
^you can do this by searching for all 1939 players in the editor (search w/ the fields blank) & then sort by player type.

That would suck if you could only use 64 last name-only players in franchise... but at least it would give us the solution

EDIT: i just checked one of the earlier iterations that was giving me trouble-- & it was from when the last-name only tool was new... so I had only used the checkbox two times. So, apparently that isn't the issue.

I doubt that using the last name only PBP affects the CAP limit because you're overwriting existing players into new ones so in a way, you'll never go past the amount of players that's in the base roster file that you used when you started.

Why not check the box for every player in the file and see what happens?

well it wasnt that anyway but i wasnt thinking it froze b/c of the total # of players... but rather b/c more than 64 of those 1937 were classified as created. either way, not the problem
