CB's Catch Ratings

Guys, first off great job with the rosters. JSOU as i am using your roster download so i guess this is aimed at you but if anyone else has any views on this then feel free to chime in.
Halfway through the season i have had only 1 INT. So i checked the CB's catch ratings and found they are all set to zero?
Now i know that on the default rosters the INT's per game were to high but this to me now seems like they are way to low.
I am sure you have your reasons, just curious to know what they are.
Thanks in advance

Re: CB's Catch Ratings

The general thought on it is that they need to be set extremely low and even at zero you will still get INTs. My thoughts vary, but only slightly. My rosters set all players that had no INTs at zero, players with 1 INT at 2 and then go up from there. A player with 8 will have a 50 rating, I believe (I don't have my chart in front of me). I have no one in the high 50s or above, but varying them in this way does give some advantage to those players that had more INTs during a season, especially in simulation.

That said, just last night I was testing some teams and two players with zero catch ratings picked off passes. It happens.

Re: CB's Catch Ratings

I personally have the entire secondary (CB, SS and FS) set at 40 for catching because the one thing that I hate the most is when there should be an INT but isnt because the defender drops the ball.

It also has to do with how your secondary is as a whole. Are they rated high/low overall and what's their coverage rating?

People think that my setting of 40 is high but it isnt because after a 16 game season, I'll have around 20 or so INT's for the entire defense including LB's and DL. And if im playing with a high rated defense like the Ravens, my defense should get a lot of INT's.

Put the INT Slider up. I play with catch low, not zero, but like 25 max. Mixed with the INT slider all the way up, you see animations you would not see before.

The fact that there are not alot of int's makes the game even more realistic. Think of all the times when a db reads a pass perfectly, jumps it, and then drops the ball because he tried to run before he secured it or because he just flat out cant catch. It happens at least once or twice a game. DB's with good hands like Ed Reed and Charles Woodson are rare.

But also, if you lob it up and your reciever is no where at all and a good hands safety simply drops it and this scenario happens multiple times, bad qbs or bad human controlled play is not taken advantage of.

just an extreme measure that was taken by extremely advanced players who have been playing the game for so long that theyre skills are far beyond normal players.

It's an extreme measure to fix an extreme problem the game had out of the box: way too many INT's. Not sure what you're getting at with your "skills are far beyond normal players" comment, unless you're simply trying to create some controversy. If so, cut it out and get real.

IMO it makes no sense to lower everyone's rating to 0. The sim thing to do, as some have mentioned, is to give a select number of players higher catch ratings, depending on their INT ability. But the majority of defensive players should have catch ratings set at 0, or at most in the 1-10 range, no question.

This is exactly what i was getting at. The amount of times i have had the comp miss his receiver only for my Safety or Cb to drop the ball even though they are positioned perfectly and me pressing the catch button happens a little too often for my liking.

Re: CB's Catch Ratings

CB and Safety aren’t supposed to have great hands which is why they are CB and Safety. If they could catch the ball they would be WR. How many times in real football did we see a DB be in position to catch the ball and drop it. The percentage of DB that can catch the ball is very low. Plus most INT comes from tip passes and jump balls, not bullet passes that are off target.
The CB and safety in this game are way too good and catch far too many INT. Bringing the catch for them under 5 seems to make the game more accurate, And giving that small percentage of DB that can catch to around 20.
I find by doing this it solves the INT problem. I’m half way done with my second season and no QB has double digit INT.
