Tips for a new player

Hello,

This year will be the first year that I am purchasing the NHL series. In the past I have played the demos, and while I enjoyed them I just didn't buy them, not sure why.

Anyways, right now I am still learning how to play the game and was wondering if you guys had tips, especially on scoring. For reference I have been playing on rookie/pro as I am nowhere near good enough to go to the higher levels. On pro, the possession battle seems to be around 50/50 so I don't feel like I am struggling too much there, however I am not sure how to really setup a good shot.

If it is a strategy thing that I am just playing bad because I don't know hockey (my knowledge of it is limited as I only started following it after going to some games at Michigan and I fell in love with it) then if there are any resources about strategy I would love to read them.

In the end I am trying to pick up good habits before I form bad ones by playing uninformed, so I ask for your assistance OS community.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Edit: another thing that seems to happen to me is that I lose control of the puck if I barely touch a defender, however on defense I need to pokecheck to get the puck away as even a light hit doesn't do it. Is there something I am missing?

Re: Tips for a new player

hmm hockey is one of those games where its hard to really teach you how to be good at because so much of it is on the fly whereas baseball i could say okay on a 3-0 count and your 8th man is up, take pitches all the way until 2 strikes, etc.

i will quote the best pure goal scorer of all time "you miss one hundred percent of the shots you don't take" -gretzky

gretzky was really good at creating space and dangerous behind the net as well he was very patient with and without the puck. Gretzky didn't score 892 goals just because he was great with the puck but he was even better without the puck.

if you are having trouble getting past defenders learn to shoot the puck through defenders legs, or learn the deke moves, use the saucer pass, (for a beginner i would suggest 'Crash the net' for offense and once you cross the blue line just shoot it low and hard and try to bang in a rebound. for forecheck try a 1-2-2 low or 2-1-2 low and for defensive pressure go with puck side attack and breakout go with aggressive or normal if you don't use your defenders at the point.

if you like when 13 comes out you could add me and i could show you how its done as i am a skilled gamer especially at NHL (don't know if it's something to brag about but i am pretty awesome at nhl lol)

SaskatcheWHAT is my GT and my PSN (my younger brother will be getting it for xbox so i will get it for playstation.
