Re: NHL 13 Speculation

I'm seriously doubting NHL 13. I can't say I'm at all excited for it. That will probably change come closer to release, but I'm more excited for a kick in the nuts than this game

Re: NHL 13 Speculation

I hope I'm not getting my hopes up here but I'm thinking we finally get improved skating this year. It's year 3 of their "3 year physics plan". The first year was hitting, second year was net battles/goalie interactions, and I'm thinking this year will be the skating.

After last year's lack of GM mode upgrades, I'm thinking we get a decent improvement there.

Also, I think this is finally the year the presentation gets upgraded. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new commentary team, even though I don't really think it's necessary.

Throw in HUT/EASHL improvements as always, fine-tuning the goalie collisions and net battles and I think that's going to be the main upgrades we see this year.

Or I could just be completely wrong and we get almost none of the above. Who knows.

Presentation is good? It's horrible.

I want goal celebrations with the rest of the team, team specific arenas, team specific intros, starting lineup introductions, tons of stat overlays, scores from around the league, 3 stars of the game like they used to have, new commentary, end of period recap, etc..

This game has no immersiveness whatsoever.. completely boring.

Read what NCAA has this year for presentation.

While this stuff sounds cool, they have to fix the gameplay first. Making a really good presentation for NHL 13 is like putting a tie on a piece of dog crap. It may look better now, but it is still dog crap at heart.

I agree.. but we have been waiting for several versions for a beefed up presentation, it needs to have BOTH this year to get my $60, period. I will go back to v11 if I have too.

Re: NHL 13 Speculation

I guess what I'm expecting is pretty much more of the same for '13' as we've been seeing the last several years. Just enough additions to the game to warrant me personally to buy it...and not a whole lot more. Not trying to be overly negative....but just considering EA Sports history.

For '13', all I'm really hoping for is a game setting that we can have the choice to use, that lessons the up and down back and forth style of play that there's really no escape from currently. Every player having the ability to go end to end like the great Bobby Orr use to, does get a bit tiresome after a while. Please EAC...it's not just superhuman goalies that hold the scores down.

Re: NHL 13 Speculation

While I won't be surprised if NHL13 isn't a huge upgrade over 11/12, I wouldn't be shocked if they come out with some rather large core changes. I can see some similarities between FIFA11 & NHL12; both were mostly another layer of gloss applied to a product in need of more substantial repair and received relatively limited post-release support. Following this, FIFA12 took significant steps forward and towards a different style of play. Could the NHL team be following the same path? The problem with this theory is, as far as I know, the FIFA team & resources dwarf those of NHL. Of course this could also explain why NHL12 played out as it did, so...

The more I think about it, I'm in the same place with NHL12 as I was with FIFA11... little desire to play it, especially offline, after several years of the same issues going unaddressed. At this point, outside of the new game novelty and the team experience of EASHL, it would take some sweeping fundamental changes -- eg, skating, collision detection, presentation -- to truly get me back into the series. I hope it happens and I'm usually the optimistic type, but it's very much wait and see at this point.

Re: NHL 13 Speculation

Upgrade the EASHL and OTP.

New playoff formats. Logo, uniform, and arena editors.

Better algorithms for choosing online opponents and teams.

Please!? It's the only mode worth playing with lasting appeal.
